Reflecting on a conversation with my influencer sister-in-law (50k+ follower on IG/ TikTok), its important to consider why Nostr has a user retention problem.
A striking characteristic of Nostr for any prospecting influencer/ content creator is the extremely low follower count to engagement ratio. It is the norm to encounter npubs with thousands of followers and only a couple of likes (if any) on their posts. This is immediately disqualifying to even cross-post here.
We need more content creators if we want to bring in and retain more users.

I'm not following. The goal isnt to lower to below 0.015% but to set a ceiling on the temperature increase from pre-industrial level. From your numbers, even if we stopped all emissions today and extracted enough CO2 from the atmosphere to return to pre-industrial levels, all plants would continue living, as they did. That's not necessarily the case for humans in a 2% CO2 environment.
Anyway, climate change isn't about the % CO2, its about making our civilisation resilient to extreme weather patterns that come with an unstable natural equilibrium (aka emitting way more and faster than is being absorbed).

Let's see this over time. They say they won't age verify 90% of existing accounts based on creation date and activity patterns. But I expect all new accounts to need to age verify or have all content deemed "adult" censored. That's when the category of content "detrimental to minors" starts including certain politics or social movement that this goes off the rails for privacy. You're either limited to non-adult content or full kyc.

Excellent podcast avec un invité de haut niveau. Cependant, plusieurs points me posent problèmes dans le discours européen. Notamment celui de penser que l'autoritarisme est toujours chez les autres et que l'État est le seul gardien de la raison. Force est de constater que l'Europe s'est lancée dans une dérive de contrôle et de surveillance numérique qui était totalement impensée il y a 5ans. Monnaie de banques centrales, Identité numerique, surveillance de masse via Chat control 1.0 et 2.0. Il n'y a aucune raison de penser que la vérification de l'âge (lire verification d'identité) se limitera aux grandes plateformes de réseaux sociaux. Pour preuve, on voit déjà se dessiner des propositions de vérification d'identité au niveau de l'OS ou de l'appstore, et contournement du cryptage bout a bout au niveau de l'appareil, ce dont Éric Botherel semble penser acceptable ("du moment que le cryptage bout a bout n'est pas fragilisé"). La France est extrêmement hostile envers les OS securisés comme GrapheneOS. Les VPNs eux aussi seront soumis a une vérification d'identité. Il faut résister ces abus. Les gens veulent avoir une vie privé en ligne, cela aussi a l'égard du gouvernement, chose qu'ils ne semblent pas comprendre.

🇫🇷 French lawmakers approved a bill yesterday to become the first European country to ban social media for those under 15. The Senate is now expected to vote on it in the coming weeks.
Tl;dr:
- The government has fast-tracked the bill to expedite its final adoption, with the ban to be implemented as early as September for new accounts, and January 1, 2027, for all accounts.
- Rather than a list of affected social networks, a blanket ban was chosen, with some exceptions including private messaging apps like WhatsApp and Signal, and educational resources.
- The bill passed by 130 votes to 21, notably with the support of the government, right and far-right parties, and the majority of Socialists. Only members of the far-left (LFI) and two members of the Green party voted against.
- Mechanisms of age verification are not yet agreed upon. A "trusted third party," which would be "neither the state nor social media platforms,"could proceed either through facial recognition or by uploading identity documents.
