You’re right, it is everywhere the ‘move fast and break things’ attitude. But it makes a person want to work in the life and death serious areas so you can escape it. And like you say, it’s the support staff who get burnt by bugs or data issues in Prod. I suppose I saw Bitcoin as the kind of refreshing antidote to that mainstream approach - building its own reputation by it being rigorous and rock solid. Maybe I’ve just romanticised it to myself? But I do hope NOSTR can take its responsibilities as seriously as Bitcoin.

If developers can’t be bothered to build a test environment, it only means that there aren’t consequences worth the expense/hassle to bugs going out into live Prod, which can only means that, sadly, NOSTR production is still a live sandpit. I would dearly love this to change by the way. But it’s so not Bitcoin standard yet is it?

Since yesterday I’ve been finding bitchat iOS app crashing repeatedly. It seems to happen at times if you teleport to a channel where someone has posted a hyperlink. The app crashes and then when you restart it, the app tries to load that link again and crashes immediately. The app seems broken until that content then is off screen again once more posts have occurred.

In recent weeks, I’ve returned to learning some guitar pieces that I learned (some incompletely) over 20 years ago. It’s amazing to experience how the brain slowly remembers something that it previously knew - the magic of muscle memory as it recovers the ability to play passages I’d thought completely forgotten and to string the movements together. But it’s also made me think a lot about the passing of time and the past. I’ve found my mind serving me up memories of people and places from around that time that I hadn’t thought about for years, I guess the brain keeps it all stored together?
I remembered a line from a Vonnegut book I read around then too ‘Listen: Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time’.

No worries, thanks for the feedback. Working in isolation there was always a risk of me taking it in a different direction I guess. But yes, it was a lot of fun to do - thanks for posting the stems.
I programmed the drum part and the piano too. I heard so much rhythm in your vocal line that I was trying to play into, but guess that was just to my ears.

Nice. Yes, I think it’s best to have options all set up to fall back to if nothing else.
I have found that the backend server service on my S9 for Matrix has been rock solid. All the issues I’ve had were in getting the flaky front end clients to connect or stay connected over Tor. That said, I started using Schildi chat instead of Element (it was forked but improved) and hit a sweet run of no issues for months. Then Element seemed to get sorted by a better release too. And the issues I was having using Orbot to get Element to connect on my mobile were resolved by an Orbot update too I think. But not used it much the last couple of months so that could be out of date again now.

It’s tiresome isn’t it?
It’s the total number of sites and the percentage of sites functional over time that is important to understanding the actual impact. For example, if 90% of the sites in a network of 1000 sites had been put out of action once over three years, but each time a site had been repaired and back working within 2 days, it’s quite a different picture.

I’ve been listening to the show for a few months and wondering what the hell the Meshtadel was that you keep talking about, it always sounds amazing. I was thinking ‘maybe these guys are doing something really cool with meshtastic nodes or some real, resilient off grid comms kind of stuff?’ But the wonderful irony of Max saying that the Meshtadel is in fact ‘just a Telegram group’ about 2 minutes after calling most bitcoiners LARPers, was too good not to pass comment on.

This was a great interview, thanks for deciding to post it. I’ve read Jeff’s book, but he seemed to explain it even better here? Maybe it was just the repetition of the message making it clearer for me?

I’ve got about a nine month runway carved out left for myself to help try to make something out of value for value music on Bitcoin.

Well done for making a living at it for 25 years, that’s not easy. I’ve seen so many good musicians either walk away from it or not make much to live on and have to compromise on things etc.
I agree there are a lot of talented youngsters still learning to play - and they are really good! I just hope that the Bitcoin effect could be to allow some of the older generation musicians to be able to support viable live venues or studios to help guide and produce the talent coming through.
I hear the term ‘generational wealth’ thrown about on podcasts and it is like they mean ‘sit on it forever, Laura, so my great-grandkids will think I was a fucking genius’, but I think generational wealth really should mean ‘wealth that generates something’, including great-grandkids too of course.

I agree, but also think/hope it is an unmet need in people. Maybe it is just that there is so much low quality, ignorable music out there, people just don’t invest in it in the same way. But I’ve seen with giving my kids access to the whole Spotify catalogue, they have ended up reaching back into the past and listening to older music that I also like, but haven’t pushed on them at all. This makes me happy that we can bond over music I like, but also sad for them that it seems like they don’t have generational records/sounds of their own. The people in the family most knowledgeable or invested in current chart music are the grandparents- it makes no sense!
Early 80s records are like a teleport back to my childhood for me now. But what sounds will do that for them? The endless Ed Sheeran shit we hear playing in the shops?🤷‍♂️

@npub14mc…frlx I think you should only use lightning as you want to if that helps maintain your perspective as an interviewer. But I think the missed opportunity is that lightning is in many ways a social network that relies on interactions with known trusted parties to succeed and that is where your involvement would greatly benefit the network. Most businesses have dedicated IT staff, the CEO is too busy and not down in the technical weeds - how is this different?
What I mean is, you sell merchandise to lots of bitcoiners. If your trusted brand had lightning node(s) that allowed people to open channels with you and make purchases, that might open up a lot more routing options and inbound liquidity for others with lightning nodes or whatever. I suppose what I’m saying is, your presence is too large in the space to just be a neutral bystander and you seem to sincerely want lightning to be better.

Yes, Spotify have already set a value of close to nothing on your music. I have nothing much to lose as I’m invisible on Spotify etc, and being early in a like minded community is valuable in itself and I’m interacting with other musicians in that group in a way that Spotify gave me none of.
Once someone blows up big on the V4V side, the same people will likely complain about missing the boat 🤷‍♂️

Thanks, Peter. I’ve been trying Wavlake out and it they are doing a great job. It’s still early, but I’m loving the way it can be integrated with the podcasting 2.0 index and the tracks appear in Fountain and on Music Side Project. Hopefully, the audience for consuming music this way will grow.
Going to put some more tracks on there soon. It’s the advantage of being fully independent!
