Dass die fiktive Figur Schweizer ist, heißt ja nicht, dass sie Müll erzählt. Selbst ein Friedrich Schiller schreibt mal etwas Sinnvolles, so wie auch ein blindes Huhn mal ein Korn findet ;)
Denn an der Aussage an sich ist etwas dran, egal ob auf internationaler Ebene oder auf der Dorfstraße. Du _kannst_ nicht in Frieden leben, wenn du Nachbarn hast, die etwas dagegen unternehmen wollen. Irgendwann musst du dich dann doch wehren - letztendlich mit Waffengewalt (und sei es, du ziehst gegen den Nachbarn vor Gericht, er bekommt ein Kontaktverbot zu dir, er hält sich nicht dran - dann muss irgendwann die bewaffnete Polizei kommen).
Der Unterschied ist aber, dass du wegziehen und auf bessere Nachbarn hoffen kannst. Das können die Ukrainer nicht. Selbst wenn sie allesamt in ein anderes Land ziehen und Putin das ukrainische Land alles schenken könnten - dann greift Putin sie dann weiter von dort an.

Ja, wenn man so etwas hätte...
aber es gibt ja noch mehr Funktionen zur Verteidigung als nur schießen.
Z.B. ist ja bekannt, dass einige potentielle Gegner Informationskrieg führen. In Deutschland sind ja bereits jetzt sowohl die AfD komplett als auch die Linke mehrheitlich von Russland unterwandert und bereiten Deutschland auf eine Machtübernahme durch Putin vor.
Eine Funktion einer Armee könnte daher auch sein, Falschinformation aufzudecken und zu entkräften. Nein, nicht mit DDoS-Attacken oder Server zerstören oder so. Durch positive _wahre_ Gegeninformation. Nicht dumme Propaganda, die selbst voll Lügen ist und vom Feind trivial entkräftet werden kann.

Und ich sehe das aber so: wenn Deutschland wirklich angegriffen wird, dann _darf_ niemand verweigern. Das ist dann existenziell, und ein Staat hat das Recht, seine Bürger zur Verteidigung seiner selbst zu verpflichten.
ABER: damit ist keine Unterstützung von US-Angriffskriegen eingeschlossen. Was die einzigen bewaffneten Auslandseinsätze der Bundeswehr bisher waren.

Note that you say "voter-verified", not "voter-verifiable". Are there technologies that actually _require_ the voter to verify their "voter receipt" (which they then will throw in the ballot box)?
Could be as simple as printing a code that ends with the voted party acronym there and requiring the voter to enter the printed number before leaving,.

I am not opposed at all. There is a realistic problem with this idea, namely, that it may lead to massive splits within a party that hands the victory to the other even if the opposing people within the party _mostly_ agree with each other.
OTOH, if one were to introduce a ranked choice style (or similar) voting system, that'd resolve all these problems.

Yeah, indeed.
The reason why the government needs this info is to ensure nobody can vote in two primaries. And yet this seems information the government really shouldn't have.
It's almost as if we need an alternate solution to ensure nobody can vote in two primaries...

(To be fair, I do not see primaries themselves as a problem - just having to tell the government which primary you vote in, AND also considering this a "party affiliation".
Things might be different if lots of people strategically set the _other_ party as their "affiliation", only to then show up at their primary and vote for the candidate least likely to win the general election (or most palatable to them as a plan B).
If a significant amount of people did that, then the field in the voter registration would not be very useful for retaliation purposes.
But now we're deep in game theory...)

I never have, as I left the US when it became too dangerous for me (who was a German on a Green Card). I'd actually have filed for naturalization soon later, had it not been for _that_ stuff.
And that is why I am asking - I hear all possible things about how voting machines in general, and US voting machines in particular, work, but never had a chance to try one out in my life. I'd love to see online demos of them, for example.

To be fair, a lot of the problems _are_ the legal constraints of US elections, such as:
- Previous "voter registration" with a "party affiliation". Essentially the government already knows who's gonna vote for whom! It's just a matter of time till these lists will be used for retaliatory purposes. Basically the secrecy of the vote is almost entirely undermined by this.
- Multiple layers of "winner takes all", so only few districts actually matter.
Together this is an ideal ground for manipulation - after all, the government already knows where to manipulate to get the desired outcome!
In that sense, I find it actually quite problematic that voting machines supposedly know the voter's registration. Ideally the voting machine shouldn't even know the voter's identity - the poll workers should check that, guide the voter to the booth, and then push a button that simply makes the machine accept _one_ ballot. If we want to rely on poll workers less, we can instead give voters after ID verification a single-use code to scan at the machine, which however has to be generated without taking voter registration or any other personal data into account (imagine a stack of those things in the office where you register).
E.g. if a machine makes it easier and faster to vote according to your registration, and if poll workers have party affiliation in their lists, then the poll workers can immediately see who voted matching their affiliation - namely, all the fast voters did. This too is a secrecy-of-the-vote issue.
More interesting manipulation can be more subtle. What if e.g. the user interface of the machines is sluggish or weird for one candidate, but works well for the other - if nothing else, can this bias the next election? What is the bias of long lines before the voting booth on the outcome? If e.g. one party is more "determined" and willing to wait in line for hours, simply slowing down the machines generally will favor that party.
And all this is way outside the mathematical-scientific aspects. One of my favorite instances of vote manipulation is actually a paper ballot; see attached image. One option doesn't look like the others - and "incidentally" got most votes. Eye catching works. It's really easy to bias the human mind. And I bet this was all fully legal by actually well intentioned voting laws (not saying the entire system there is well intentioned, but this kinda attack might work in other places too).

#Smartmeter sind doof.
Um den aktuellen Verbrauch zu sehen (was beim dummen Stromzähler einfach durch Zeitmessung pro Umdrehung mit einer Stoppuhr geht) musste ich einen PIN draufleuchten. Extrem frustrierend, ständig wird das Leuchten nicht oder als zwei Tastendrücke akzeptiert. Praktisch unmöglich.
Bis ich die LED-Taschenlampe, die PWM macht (alle meine LED-Lampen machen leider PWM, auch Handy- und Fahrradlampen) durch eine Glühlampe aus dem Kasten mit den Autobirnen ersetzt habe. So ein 12V-Scheinwerfer mit Labornetzteil auf 6V betrieben erzeugt genau die richtige Menge an Infrarot, und wird auch nicht allzu heiß.
Und kein PWM (und selbst wenn, kommt das nicht durch den Glühfaden durch). Das Teil reagiert also anständig.
Was machen Leute, die kein Auto haben? Und warum muss das über ein so komisches Protokoll gehen, wo der Zähler nach dem IR-Sensor ja nicht einmal eventuelles PWM wegglättet?
Mir scheint, als könnte man den geschätzt 100 Euro-Zähler mit einem 10 Cent-Teil erheblich benutzerfreundlicher machen...

To be fair, school shootings are usually ultimately caused by psychological trauma caused by that very school. Just the victims are rarely ever the ones at fault. Even the school itself usually was forced to cause the bad situations due to underfunding, understaffing and underqualification.
As such, yeah, the right place for once.

Pretty sure they could be made out of metal, but then would be heavier and less efficient.
This is something we still need to figure out - which technology works best in the long term, especially when considering foreign dependencies.
In theory we could build wind power plants and solar ones even from mostly steel and aluminium. In case of solar that requires entirely different technology - not solar panels but solar collectors that heat water using sun energy, and then processing like with every other heat based power plant - in case of wind it is basically the same, just heavier.
But even if we don't, the mere fact that we could makes us less dependent. Although it would be even better if a small number of these are actually built so in an emergency (like China stopping even supporting existing plants) we have a proven plan B.

I got to Green Card status, but a few years later, it became clear that my family and me could not be safe in the US anymore, so we left again (by which one almost automatically loses permanent resident status).
And I am really happy I didn't file for naturalization. Because those MAGA people don't care. If your name sounds foreign, you are in danger, US passport or not. Cory, I applaud your work - I couldn't do the same though, not with a family with young children.

I am pretty sure Germans _are_ still being held accountable.
My history classes were over 2/3 about the Third Reich, about how Germans are the worst people ever because they did not get rid of Austrian Painter guy. All this to ensure we will never do it again.
Isn't that collective punishment enough?
(Or has this kind of history teaching stopped - maybe the reason for the AfD uprising now?)

"People" is the status quo. Other "people" control what I can do with e.g. my phone.
But it should be me, the user.
"The people" as a whole may however exert democratic control over which things should be possible to some extent.

Not bad, although I find it even more impressive that you are using a 3D FPS engine for a 2D platformer.
Making the level up notifications instantly pop up and modal may be something to reconsider. I'd prefer them taking place either in the background (gameplay continues as normal), or at a later "safe time" (e.g. at a checkpoint, or maybe once no monster is on screen and the player is on ground). Not sure if this falls under "UI" for you.
