A charitable read is that getting regulatory approval to launch civilians on basically missiles across borders with tech everyone thought was absurd would bankrupt the company just in wait time.
And the market for people willing and healthy enough and who could afford the ticket on the rocket is probably also small.
Realistically the only path towards building enough rockets to make spaceflight “cheap” is to find the highest bidders in the broadest market to fund it and currently that’s AI, applications with starlink, and expanding military applications.
Or it may all be a giant gamble who knows 🤷

“How real are real numbers” [1] - a paper covering a topic that many people overlook: an argument against the continuum and for discreteness.
In school you learn about the various different number systems but rarely does anyone question whether or not the continuum (and implicitly the concept of infinity) exists.
I’ve mentioned previously on Nostr that infinity is inserted into the foundation of our mathematical theories as an axiom and therefore assumed to exist. As finite observers with finite lifespans and limited precision instruments (microscopes, telescopes, colliders, detectors, etc) it’s impossible for us to ever observe or relate in any way to anything infinite so there’s no basis for using it as an axiom. It’s merely a convenience.

Retail is broke and lots of capex spend on datacenters and public market liquidity is otherwise earmarked for SpaceX, Anthropic, and OpenAI. Private credit is widely rumored to be strained. Tariffs and oil prices are draining liquidity from the market too.

A third possibility is that the Saylors of the world vacuum up a majority of the supply and open lightning channels with each other and we continue seeing minimal activity in the open.
In fact it’s feeling like a likely outcome. They don’t want public scrutiny of their transactions any more than we do and they’re in a position to offer settlement to central banks. Fiat Conf 2026 with all those politicians is the canary.

Haven’t ran qwen in a minute but it’s surprising you’re not getting higher throughput for gemma4 on your 3090s.
For what it’s worth if you use llama.cpp and disable reasoning you should see faster time to first byte at the cost of a slight degradation in quality. Haven’t used vllm so can’t comment there. I get 70-75 tok/s on a macbook m3 for comparison and only have 40 GPU cores

Experimenting with using RL to train an adversarial bitcoin-script generator.

It could be useful for testing future opcodes like OP_CAT. It's built on the MuZero architecture with a reward policy derived from Rusty Russell's varops budget calculations.
I don’t have much time to maintain it and for now it’s just for curiosity and learning. No guarantees about accuracy or performance but it can generate valid scripts when trained for about 20-30 minutes on a good CPU. No GPU support for now because the Monte Carlo tree search is sequential and in the current implementation it’s hard to parallelize it so we’re CPU bottlenecked anyway.

Is there a market for a self hosted “Google” search?
For example you could have a dedicated box that just has an index of some subset of the internet and therefore entirely private to query.
One way to do this in an oversimplified way is to for a central service to generate an index each day and push it to edge devices. Updates could just be diffs to reduce network traffic.
Maybe set that service up as a Nostr DVM? Is there a NIP for search indexes yet 😅? Different npubs could offer different niche indexes and you could view the internet through a more personally curated lens than what Google and Meta force feed the majority of us.

The conversation doesn’t always need to be, but sometimes having notes about what else you’ve considered when running experiments can be critical when looking back over time for example.
Often when you’re in the exploratory phase of a project you pursue many dead ends most of which don’t belong in a paper. Sometimes you run thousands of versions of the same experiment and you want to follow up on some observations.

The beauty of using local LLMs for trying out lines of thought for research is that you can fork the conversation at any point and go on tangents.
You can’t easily do that in the web interfaces for Claude and the others without losing the history and if you use the API you’re paying by the token.
Might be a good vibe project to setup a way to preserve a conversation history tree with a way to link nodes via tags or other links - zettlekasten style.

Bitcoin has plenty of podcasts and podcasters but we’re missing a personality like Andreas Antonopolous.
He struck a good balance of explaining the tech, rejecting the banks and the state, and spoke in a way that normies could relate. He didn’t dilute the message or talk about price. He had charisma and was on a mission to make the system understandable by a wide audience.
We’re missing that voice in bitcoin now for the new recruits. Sure they can look up his old videos but they don’t get promoted for people to pick them up anymore.
I’m saying this because I’m hearing the same voices and same message on all the podcasts and it’s repetitive and diluted (for lack of a better word). The world is even more on fire than it was back in 2015-2017 and most of the talk these days is focused on fiat price action or SBR or other basic shit. Saylor is sucking the air out of the room.
We can do better. We should expect better. I’m working to orange pill my social network in the least cringe way but want to do better. I’m not doing enough. I don’t know where to go from here but now more than ever we need bitcoin and bitcoiners.

MCP isn’t directly competing with CLIs since the former is a protocol. You may want to run your agent in a distroless container without a shell but let it make HTTP requests to whitelisted endpoints for example. MCP is also a tool discovery protocol.

OpenCode and locally running GLM4.7-flash is surprisingly good. That can be done on a decent sized mac mini. It won’t keep up with frontier models but it’s far better than the average developer when used correctly.

Large centralized LLMs can and may be trained at some point to subtly discourage the use of Bitcoin for payments.
Many in the community think is inevitable for AI agents but that assumes a fair and relatively impartial training set. You can imagine a scenario where the creator of WorldCoin goes out of their way to train ChatGPT to use it proficiently and securely while teaching it to use Bitcoin wallets in ridiculous ways so that the agents struggle.
And if governments get serious about stable coins you can imagine how the big AI providers could get orders to have the bots only use those.
Local LLMs aren’t immune either since they’re trained by the big centralized players too. Fine tuning them often leads to performance and accuracy degradation so it’s not even clear we can undo the damage. It’s important for us to figure out how to decentralize AI training.
OpenDiLoCo may be part of the solution but we need more people thinking about this:

Cellular automata (CA) are underrated.
Most people’s experience with them are simply Conway’s Game of Life or similar setups. The topic is much deeper than that though. Some 2D CA are in fact Turing complete [1] and can be used to perform any computation (albeit inefficiently).
So what? Why not just use python or if you're really bored use a transformer model? Because in this context it's not about doing the computation but rather what we can learn about computation in general. The beautiful thing about CA is that they are naturally visual and we can see emergent patterns at a glance while they work.
First consider that ALL scripts, models, charts, etc. on computers are discrete. Then understanding the simplest discrete systems (ie. CA) may give us an idea of the limitations of the more complex ones. In fact, even simple, deterministic systems can produce unpredictable behavior [2]. And sometimes even complex rules don’t lead to complex output.
It also turns out that there's a natural connection between convolutional neural networks and CA [3] so this touches on important topics in AI. This is the focus of my current research and I'm hoping to publish more on that eventually (not under this nym of course).
I recommend more people get creative with studying cellular automata.

It depends on which source you look at online; some are saying it’s already being rolled out and others say it’s in the process.
And in any case does it matter if it happens next week or happened last week? The contracts are signed and the robots are real and there’s clearly motivation to deploy these things. It’s not “years from now” from what the reports are saying. Whether those publishers are lying is a different story.

China has been deploying humanoid robots to its border with Vietnam [1]. This is just the beginning; expect this trend to proliferate to other countries over time and for the robots to become much more capable.
This raises a lot of obvious concerns but one that jumps out to me is the removal of the general public from its own security. Security is being outsourced away from the group who ostensibly wants to be secured and at the sole discretion of a class of people codified into law as “above everyone else” (ie. the State).
This is happening within the broader context of general automation where factories are being automated top to bottom in more and more industries. The general public has less influence in society at an unprecedented scale.
In AI circles there’s always been the concept of the “alignment problem” where researchers are worried about advanced AI being aligned with humans but until we can figure out alignment between groups of us there’s no real “extra” threat posed by advanced AI for the vast majority of people.

Where are you getting the idea you can’t run a bitcoin node or lightning node from home? I personally run a bitcoin node at home and have for years. It’s not even difficult actually.
It sounds like you’re not a fan of bitcoin in general? To each their own I guess but to say that you want self custody and that because homes don’t come standard with nodes bitcoin isn’t worthwhile is a contradiction.
Running the software is a fundamental part of self custody otherwise you’re trusting other people to process your transactions and to be honest about it.

Lightning network channels are secured by the same miners since it’s just users exchanging signed bitcoin transactions out of band. At any point either party in the channel can broadcast the latest transaction and settle on chain. Up until that point it’s the same cryptography that secures all the other UTXOs.
You can run a lightning node from home on top of your standard bitcoin node so you don’t have to share control any more than you do for the base chain.
For what it’s worth I agree that lightning isn’t ideal especially for beginners but I use it all the time and it mostly works fine. Had my fair share of frustrations with it too.

Can you explain what you mean about it not being a “p2p proof of work cryptocurrency like bitcoin”.
It’s a network of 2-2 multisig contracts on bitcoin. The proof of work is derived from the sats locked up in the contracts. It’s not meant to be a separate cryptocurrency because it’s just a way of using Bitcoin in the end.
