Nice write up. I particularly like this line.
"They argue “The problem isn’t the people or the products, it’s the system” without noting that the government is THE SYSTEM."
Many of the most awful outcomes of the AI industry were on purpose and perpetrated by the government. Like, I could get his argument if we had a strong government that would be willing to take on the AI industry, but that's just fantasy.

My teenage son has been taking classes to learn how to fight... medieval style. He's been attending classes at a local #HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) Academy. Its pretty cool and so much more involved than the LARPing I was doing as a kid.
And maybe its just our local club, but most the kids are visually queer. Lots of rainbows, pronouns, even a furry. While its great to see these kids find a safe place, its also good to know that the next generation can defend us from the barbarian horde (aka MAGA).
Anyone else here into historically accurate fighting?

I had a job in the early 2000s rolling out VPNs to medical devices and disconnecting modems. I would social engineer my way in every time and my conversion number was 2-3 times the next consultant.
The parent company called a meeting to find out what I was doing. Long story short, my position changed to physical penetration tester. ;)

No, not to make it work. Google play requires a google account, but Graphene runs that in a sandbox, too. If you get the APKs from another source, no google account needed.

If I need traffic data, I typically use HereWeGo. It's the company that is behind most of the built-in nav in car infotainment systems. So they provide a free version that kinda like a beta for their car platforms. And you can use it without creating an account. But if I don't need traffic data, I love @npub1are…fcch

There's not much you can do other than turning off all the radios the car has to enable data upload. Many older Nav systems use Sirius for traffic alerts (my wife's 2018 Ford does this), so you may still be able to use the built-in nav. But all other wifi and cellular connections need to be turned off, if the car gives you that option.
The problem is that many cars have undocumented connectivity that you can't turn off. That's why my two cars are from 2002 and 1995 ;).

So I busted out an old laptop and installed headless ubuntu minimal (I like to start small) so that I can start setting up some autonomous agents. My first step was to install Claude Code so that it could setup everything else for me, but after a few hours at it, both Claude and I admit that Claude Code is broken on a headless install. We tried a bunch a different way to get it to take a damn key, but the installer insists on an OAUTH auth that requires a browser.
I have a dislike for anything on linux that requires a GUI. But installing OpenBox now.

There are two numbers you need to know. What is the minimum bill rate you need to survive. If you don't know know your billable utilization, assume 40%. 2080 hours in 2025, assume that you'll bill 832 hours. Find the bottom number that will allow you to pay your bills.
Then find out what bill rate is usually charged for your service. Usually, it's much higher than your bottom number.
Now you know how much you can wheel and deal on billable rate. My pitch used to be be "I'll beat the going rate by 20%"

For my phone, I have @npub1kwa…e0nj installed. It's the best balance of privacy, security, and usability out there.
For Google Maps, I use HERE WeGo (https://wego.here.com/). It's got ads and stuff, but you don't need an account to turn on the traffic data - and it has a pretty good offline mode. The bad part of that app is that the location database is dated. You don't want to try to find the nearest Dunkin for example, but if you have an address already, it's perfect.

Google Music is the last service I've not degoogled from. I'm starting to do a lot more old school internet radio (like @npub1x08…469m ) when I just want someone else to pick the music for me. I've also been using Bandcamp more. Still need to cut the last Google cord!

#Privacy alert for #Android users. #SafteyCore was installed secretly as an OS update versus a #Google app. I highly suggest removing it.
You can find the option to uninstall or disable the service by tapping on ‘SafetyCore’ under ‘System Apps’ in the main ‘Apps’ settings menu on your phone.

What's the difference in #mastodon and #pixelfed? On the surface, Mastodon supports text posts and picture posts, so why would I need Pixelfed? If I find Pixelfed profiles I like, I can follow them on Mastodon, right?
