You are assuming it was developed following standard software dev practices. I checked the firmware repo after the fix, no regression test! In fact the only seed generation test looks to me like a hacked together mock that string matches stdout.
You should also read the latest article on @nprofile…fq5f, it does a very nice analysis of the commits that introduced the bugs. Looking at the commits, it seemed quite evident to me CK's software dev practices are abyssmal, definitely counter to NVK's claim about the care CK puts into their products.
I still believe the bug probably would have been found much earlier if this firmware was actually MIT licensed, instead of it's current source available status. And that is purely because of NVK's lack of understanding of FOSS licenses.

Yes, default behaviour is concatenate, but you can also "import dice rolls", then you better have sufficient rolls. The docs recommend 50-98 (≥128 bits), and ≥99 rolls corresponding to 256 bits.

As a user, would be nice to disable/exclude updates for apps that are normally managed by another store.
Zapstore seems to be aware of it, and warns you but would be nice to be reminded (or disabled) in the UI instead of finding out after hitting update.
I fall for this all the time, as I also use other #foss stores like f-droid.

Rust lets you do nostd (no standard library), it's targetted towards embedded development.
That said, IMO dependency bloat is not a language specific problem, but a library specific problem (essentially how a specific community thinks).
I can't give examples in rust, since I'm new. But for example in Python, I've observed many modern commercially supported libraries (i.e. open source, but with a company behind it) tend to be bloated as they almost always have too many "features", includes stuff like dashboards, authentication, etc, as opposed to open source projects driven by a community.
Bloat is a mindset.

I don't disagree with all your points, just some, 2 & 3 specifically. Both are related to attention, to some extent also the "bonus" remark. I don't think people need to rely on hooks or other unrelated elements in their content for people to be interested on a platform where the dynamics of advertising is absent. Here quality of the content is what matters most. So that should dictate length, detail, or style (which is also why I really liked your "ultra bonus" remark).

Everything you listed are rules that are a consequence of the advertising model, isn't it? Video as a medium is older than social networks, I would guess your professor was referring to rules about film making in general (FWIW, I've heard that quote as well).
Nostr is a fundamentally different kind of network. There are no central arbiters, or hidden incentives. No one makes money of off its users.

Pension and social security is the biggest pyramid scheme. I'm an immigrant worker, and so far 2 different countries have basically kept my pension contributions without any reassurance or a clear way for me to access it, and the 3rd country where I spent the most time (8+ yrs) forces me to pay for social security, but when I need that security, I'm ineligible for the benefits. I'm quite certain they'll screw me over on the pension as well by changing the rules later.
No thank you, I'll manage my own security, and my own retirement. I don't need no state interfering.

I'm a n00b at managing GPG keys 😶. The keys I use just expired. A quick search tells me I can extend the validity by editing it, but that seems wrong! Any pubkeys out there would still show the old expiry date 🤔
I mostly use my keys with software repos, and to encrypt sensitive files (locally). Can someone better versed at this point me in the right direction? 👉

It doesn't conform to the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, and that leads to issues with other external tools. Recently I had an issue with pip installing a library in a virtual environment that links to compiled platform libraries. It broke because the libraries weren't in the usual paths.

Switched to @nprofile…nztg recently, most things just work (including all my banking apps, from multiple countries!). You realise the things that you miss are Google services! E.g. contacts sync, maps, etc.
OSM based apps like OSMAnd~ are good, but coverage may not be uniform. Also I found search sometimes breaks because the data is slightly different. E.g. recently I couldn't find a cafe on OSM because the OSM entry did not have "cafe" in it, and I was searching for "cafe name".
Also sharing location links are a bit more tedious, because now you have to convert to GMaps links for the recipient to open it in their maps app.
And I don't like the default keyboard. So I've been using the Futo keyboard, which is mostly fine.

Schiphol's security checking is probably among the smoothest currently. It had gone down soon after COVID, took about a year or so to recover.
The immigration experience is pretty bad though, there are fewer and fewer booths with staff, and longer queues. Of course if you are EU citizen, and willing to hand over biometric data, the automatic gates seem efficient. Although, doesn't seem to work for people traveling with kids.

Are you learning new things with AI in completely new domains, or still within your domain? If you are within your domain, you still have your experience to filter out the inaccuracies. Try with something very different.
Just couple of days ago I spotted a significant but subtle error in a somewhat straightforward summarisation task I was trying with Llama. It could have easily slipped past me if I were not careful.

The problem is more often than not these bots spit out hallucinations mixed with facts. It takes experience to spot the useful bits.
Also, using these tools early on also means you actually never learn to do it correctly. How are you going to spot mistakes, or debug? I think these tools should be used *after* gaining some experience.

One thing I miss on Nostr is that, under a post like this on Twitter, I could see some confused normies asking questions, some die hard idiots denying obvious reality. It gave me a reasonable pulse on what the rest of the world is thinking. I would also try to answer the honest questions with some learning material, and troll the idiots.

If you custody with a 3rd party, the state can focus their efforts on the custodians, and since the custodians are businesses, they would have documentation showing exactly how much they hold. Whereas individuals holding self-custodially is different, since unlike gold, Bitcoin is a digital asset, and much simpler to hide.
When it comes to using, the individual can always exchange P2P. Granted, in that case buying a house with Bitcoin would be difficult, but buying a used car or other services would be simple enough.

How do you know it's btrfs causing the slowdown? I've been using it as my primary filesystem for years (basically since it became default on Fedora), never noticed a slowdown.
I've had other issues though, it's incredibly complex to recover when faults happen. Also, not having a feature complete fsck after all these years is bonkers!

Maybe my comment below will give you a more interesting aspect to think about 🤔
I find the obsession to push for a govt held Bitcoin reserve quite dangerous. We are early on in adoption that if a prominent state like the US starts building a reserve, they can get a significant portion of the 21M coins.
The difference with other holders is, the state continues to be the only one with an exclusive license to use violence.
Since the general trend for larger private entities is to custody their coins with a third party, this puts a significant portion of the supply under a 6102 style confiscation risk. Existence of a significant reserve gives the state motivation to go through with it.
I would rather see Bitcoin remain black market money forever instead of price appreciation by losing the freedom money features.

Great talk indeed! Something I noticed among the questions, people were expecting zero responsibility from the user.
E.g. expecting the relay to be singe source of truth for their data, instead of realising you should always backup your data, so that you have the option to move; same with the questions about keys.

I can't see all my picture albums from #olas, only Camera, Videos, Screenshots, and Downloads. What gives?
I wanted to share an old pic I'm rather proud of capturing that's in a separate folder. Within the Android filesystem, it's under 'DCIM' (at the same level as 'Camera').
There are also other folders with images, they aren't showing up either. I can see all these folders from every other application (including the default Gallery app).
Any thoughts?

I'm not visually impaired, so can't speak from experience. But on old mailing lists I have seen quite a few posters preferring the terminal, because screen reader support was better on the terminal. Maybe there are CLI solutions for this.
In any case, if you are securing important things, at least for yourself I would recommend choose an open source solution. There's nothing preventing a LastPass like breach happening to 1Password. Besides Bitwarden, you could also look at KeePass or KeePassXC with manual sync (after all, db changes are seldom). If sync is less important, the default keyring offered by Linux desktops (GNOME keyring/KWallet) might work. Unfortunately I have no experience with serious accessibility hurdles. Hope you find a solution that works for you. Good luck

You should generate your keys using SSH, maybe Putty has an option. You can't use any random key for SSH. It has to be in a form and crypto algorithm that SSH understands.

Sorry, was off nostr for a while. That doesn't answer my question. Of course you manage files with a file manager, but what kind of operations do you do to manage?
E.g. for me, I rarely move around individual files. It's mostly bulk operations or to find files. For bulk operations I either use compound commands like for loops, some path manipulation using pipes, etc, or use tools like find, grep, ripgrep to search. File managers are less efficient in comparison.
IMO using a file manager, be it in the terminal, or in the GUI, is wasting time if you are doing it too often. If it's occasional, that's understandable. I manage to keep that at a minimum by organising my files into broad top level directories, e.g. I have these broad categories at the top: code, notes, documents, multimedia, experiments, scratch space. Then depending on my need, I might have other subcategories, e.g. under docs I have one for taxes, another for id and other important documents, and one for ebooks.
