I have discovered, after a lot of thought, that *I* am much less motivated by sovereignty than agency. For as long as folk don't feel their agency threatened, they won't think about sovereignty much. Agency is either rooted in sovereignty, or in trust. If that trust is misplaced, nobody notices or cares until they are let down in some way.

I haven't been able to figure out the concept of a 'bitcoin company' in the context of anything I'm attempting to do. I have ended up suspicious of the contruct of a company in the first place. Is it necessary without a state? Is there more to it than a method of ameliorating tax obligations?

There is definitely something odd going on. I don't post much, but the same has happened to me. Also some folk I follow only show up if they're boosted, and others never render the identifier or picture, I'm just left with a robot and raw npub. I'd guess it's relay related, but I don't understand all this well enough to troubleshoot or know where to begin

Love the idea of Keet, but up to now I've been disappointed.
Firstly, it's been about-to-be-open-source for what feels like years now.
Secondly, I've not found it reliable - post a larger file, a couple of hours later it won't download, or stay downloaded (it previously was there, but now it's waiting for other peers to be back online before I can access it again).
But the worst thing is, every time I come to use it after a week or two, I can't do anything without a forced upgrade. And I've lost access to using it at all on a few older devices (particularly on iOS) - it forced an upgrade, then never worked again. As a relatively non-technical person, this makes it is hard to trust. (How do I know it is a genuine upgrade? If a bad actor was involved, how do I know I'm not just replacing it with a compromised version? ...or at very least, I can't be sure it'll still work after I upgrade, which means I can't rely on it for anything longer term than just whatever I'm using it for today).
This also means introducing it to other people is problematic - it solves a bunch of communication, privacy and file transfer problems beautifully, but if their experience is usually 'it doesn't work', then it's pretty much a non starter in that context.
I very much hope that my trust in it can be rebuilt, and the technical wrinkles can be ironed out, because it has masses of potential.

Not a dev, so this might be nonsense, but if you cou'd set your own exchange rate then you could do it by default, without the software having to change anything else. Something like a site-specific, or even item-spe<ific rate that is 10% different to the current spot price. Because the amount of sats vs the price in fiat is kind of a fiction anyway

I would like: my communication point with the outside world to be run on a node in my house (like a start9). I'd never miss a communication; it's always on, I can set up an auto reply if I'm offline, and it runs securely on my own hardware. Then a second cryptographic structure between the node and whichever device(s) I am using at tbe time, each configureable as I see fit. This solves the multiple device problem - all communications come from my node, anything I write comes from there. However, I can control the node securely from whichever device I choose, and customise the terms, structure and communication methods between devices and node, according to my situation and threat model.
Somebody pick ho'es in this idea...

Also; laws written when practicality imposed natural limitations are becoming problematic as technology removes those limitations. Cash is the prime example; it removed the nation state between points of visiblity; so the state could create laws that on paper were egregious, but ordinary people were at the time protected by unenforcibility. Now we need to find consensus within the mechanisms of state that they always were egregious, so they can be reformed. Hard to do.
