I'm curious though what the purpose of it is.. surely if they're reviewing cctv footage later they don't need to recognise anything, just capture a photo of the culprit.

I started thinking about why you might see that.
Repeaters can refuse to repeat messages that aren't region tagged. It's uncommon around here but maybe in other countries it's more of a thing.
If you're setup as multi byte maybe the local repeater is an old version that doesn't support that.. single byte is still best for reach.

I notice gaps in what traffic reaches me - hearing half a conversation is quite common if it's more than 10 or so hops away but seems to get out well enough, at least according to meshrank.
I guess it's inherent in low power transmission that you need a decent density of repeaters for it to work well.. I got lucky locally (I'm out in the sticks and meshtastic doesn't work at all).

It seems to be more the other way.. people setup relays then find when you've got a few hundred people subscribing to all that data it's not sustainable, so the relay shuts down.
Means it can be hard to find active relays.. sites listing them are often so far out of date as to be useless.
As a single user instance I link to 6 relays which is probably overkill (I don't know of a way to measure how active each one is, to pare it down) and don't find it overwhelming.

I'd expect a relay to firehose everything to me and it be my server's responsibility to do any filtering. Maybe others don't think of them the same way..
But as a single user instance they're invaluable, especially for hashtags.

There's a belief in a decent proportion of the population that poverty doesn't really exist.. it's just bad money management which is where they 'they all have sky' argument comes from.
Unfortunately that's where a lot of the worst political policies come from as well.

You have to use a lot of ads to make any money these days. Apparently YouTube makes about $1 a year per user even with its blanket intrusive ads

But in that case.. why burden themselves with a massive debt for the logo (plus ~25k a year to maintain the trademark) rather than just launch the product, if it's going to be that profitable.
I can't believe the commodore name is influential enough in 2025 to turn an average product into a bestseller.

It's just an excuse to be nasty to a group of people they don't like. And the press have jumped on the ruling with things that are not true* to stir up hatred because they see it as a green light.

Unless they tackle the disparity in travel costs in term time the 'fines' are still going to be less than the price difference. This was inevitable when they started treating term time holidays as absence (it used to be considered normal) and is effectively a subsidy to the travel industry.

Despite the rhetoric of it being good for 'savers' both my savings accounts have this month reduced interest rates.
The mortgage interest rate has stayed high..
So it seems the interest rate moves in the direction of whatever is best for bank profits.

It's interesting that javascript is able to put data in the clipboard without there being corresponding ctrl+c.
What does it paste? Even on windows there's powershell vs cmd to deal with and a limit to what you can do without elevation.

It's always fascinated me that large networks take so long to deal with that stuff. My disaster recovery plan for such an event is to shut everything down and reimage/recover the backups.. obviously spend a bit of time first to find out how they got in but not *too* much because people gotta work.
Clearly there's a reason it takes that long, it's just outside my experience.
