Known for his raw honesty and relentless discipline, Mark has spent decades exploring what it means to build true strength, not just in the gym, but in every corner of life From setting world records on the platform to building one of the most influential fitness brands in America, Markās story is one of constant evolution We talk about: Building discipline Why simplicity wins in life Pain, suffering, and consistency How to navigate nutrition with clarity The real nuance behind sugar fasting Watch the video and subscribe! https://youtu.be/GY1byNxRkkM?si=7NfxeBlUmcnzeSFN npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Heavenly Heat Saunas are the only saunas I trust enough to partner with, and I donāt say that lightly The co-owner, Kayla Barnes, has followed me for a while, and I coincidentally learned that she owned the company on my search for a good brand That led me down the Heavenly Heat rabbit hole via Matt Justice and was very pleased with his assessment of their saunas, from head to toe I had my wife (a PR wizard) send them an email, which is how we got to this point Theyāre the gold standard in a space thatās full of cheap materials and sloppy engineering. These guys build everything in the United States, use non-toxic wood, zero plywood, zero VOCs, and the cleanest electric heaters in the industry You can verify the quality through Matt Justice of Certified Saunas on YouTube No gimmicks. No nnEMF circus. Just reliable, therapeutic heat the way itās supposed to be delivered so that you can heal and improve your metabolic health Ultra clean build standards No glues/adhesives for those who are chemically sensitive and need to heal from serious metabolic dysfunction Ultra-low nnEMF & ELF with grounded faraday shielding via carbon infrared heaters that reduce electric and magnetic exposure for safety Excellent pre-heat time Most importantly, one hell of a deep sweat that improves your health across the board (yes, you can buy a sauna that does a crappy job of making you sweat because of the low quality build standard) Many sauna companies cut corners. Heavenly Heat doesnāt. Thatās why their units cost more, and why they last longer, hit harder, and donāt poison the air while youāre using it Iāve partnered with them because I have always been interested in the power of sauna use for detox, infrared therapy, and more, but never had the chance to get one myself for consistent use These are the saunas Iād put my own family in without hesitation. Thatās why Iāve educated my family to have more skin in the game here Their selection is awesome as well. The ECO infrared can fit into a closet. The 2 person combination switches between infrared and traditional. The 2 person red light therapy infrared gives you more photobiomodulation power. They even have an outdoor option Black Friday is upon us. Now is your chance to get huge savings, especially with my own discount code thrown into the mix. Even if you decide to get one after Black Friday, my code offers substantial savings I suggest you take advantage to save anywhere between $800-$1,100 off all models. Itās likely the cheapest price point youāll ever get Remember, in the sauna space, you truly do get what you pay for. Donāt be that person who makes a rash decision and buys a cheap sauna from Amazon because it has a lower price tag. They are a nightmare to have when things are going wrong Get one for yourself and family with the link and code below. This wasnāt done by the normal fat burning hormone pathway, but by turning on the cells cleanup and recycling machinery Autophagy + lysosomes = internal fat digestion. Autophagy being the cellās self-cleaning process, and lysosomes being acidic sacs that digest waste The cell essentially ate its own fat droplets from the inside out as a result of amber light exposure This pathway is not the classic adrenaline to HSL to fat breakdown route The researchers even blocked the usual lipase pathways, and the amber light effect still happened So, the study tells us that amber light activates the cellās recycling machinery that destroys fat droplets Itās not a stretch at all to suggest that light wavelengths can influence adipocyte (fat cell) behavior in a measurable way ā¢ā¢ā¢ Every wavelength does something different in the body because different molecules and tissues absorb different photons Blue light is highly stimulating and alerting. Red and infrared boosts mitochondrial ATP. UV-A and UV-B offer distinct benefits Amber sits in an interesting middle zone because it penetrates deeper than blue, carries more energy than red, and interacts with metabolic tissue like fat Amber is also heavily involved in: ⢠cerebellar development ⢠circadian signaling ⢠mitochondrial dynamics ⢠melanin intermediates ⢠POMC related pathways Fat cells responding to amber light fits the pattern of amber being a metabolic wavelength Amber exists in the natural world for your benefit. Itās most abundant during sunrise and sunset due to Rayleigh Scattering, where you have a high concentration of red/infrared/oranges/yellow/ambers Golden hour is an amber rich experience You literally bathe in amber light just by stepping outside during sunrise and sunset Firelight offers a lot of amber along with many of the same wavelengths that sunrise and sunset provide Full spectrum sunlight during the day offers amber as well, but at less concentration since itās mixed with the rest of the spectrum Incandescents are a man-made lighting source that is rich in amber light By maintaining circadian alignment, you bring amber back into your life during both the day (sunrise, sunbathing, sunset, incandescents) and night (firelight & low lux incandescents) https://blossom.primal.net/5074a0469d7982e5dfae9e9e6f2995d16413064a6b13cd64b627dd80ddc164c8.jpg https://blossom.primal.net/f996a8e75c1834ab9a33ddb05fafa1680343770a6d387e944a7941ffadee1677.jpg https://blossom.primal.net/4d2e444a77a0074e297add5596f9db2b3867ab9e7aaa812e16083542657e4db4.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj GM https://blossom.primal.net/084c3df2908da90fe67e61ba9f872b6159772e100c3f1dc6852ead6bb0e96ed9.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Daylight savings time is ass on every level. Powerful antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals and maintains redox balance 2. Natural anti-venom that binds and neutralizes toxic compounds, including heavy metals 3. Anti-tumor agent that suppresses abnormal cell proliferation through redox and immune modulation 4. Biological nnEMF shield that dissipates excess electromagnetic stress at the cellular level 5. Detoxifying polymer that chelates and eliminates environmental toxins and heavy metals 6. Photoprotective barrier which is natureās built-in sunscreen that adapts to UV exposure from full spectrum sunlight 7. Lipid peroxidation defender that prevents oxidative damage to cellular membranes and fats 8. Broad spectrum anti-viral that inhibits viral replication via photochemical and immune pathways 9. Anti-microbial shield that resists bacterial and fungal invasion through oxidative control 10. Neuroprotective agent that safeguards neurons from oxidative and excitotoxic stress And so much more God and nature infused those benefits into melanin by design. A tan is your body training under full spectrum sunlight Itās an adaptation. Thatās why itās found throughout the entire natural world, especially in human beings, through three forms (neuromelanin, eumelanin, pheomelanin) Iāll tie your mainstream dermatologist into a Gordian knot by forcing the question they wonāt want to answer Whose interests does this ādamageā narrative actually serve? Sub-cellular/local form (inside mitochondria, cells, and tissues) 2. Systemic/circulatory (pineal secretion into the bloodstream, measurable in urine or plasma) The first is made by NIR light outside during the day, while the second is made from nighttime darkness Melatonin is a master circadian hormone that is married to the light and dark cycle, meaning circadian alignment fosters both forms while circadian disruption destroys them More than ever, you need to abide by bright days under full spectrum sunlight and dark nights with very minimal circadian lighting After all, donāt you want to take advantage of endogenous melatoninās benefits Weāre talking about anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, anti-viral, anti-neurodegenerative, anti-metabolic dysfunction, anti-oxidant, and more Melatonin is one of the most potent and versatile antioxidants in the human body, far stronger and more strategic than most dietary antioxidants like vitamin C or E Itās in a league of its own It neutralizes multiple types of reactive species (ROS, RNS, RCS), not just one or two like many antioxidants. It can directly quench hydroxyl radicals, peroxynitrite, singlet oxygen, nitric oxide, and more.. with no pro-oxidant rebound Unlike vitamin C, which can flip into a pro-oxidant under certain conditions, melatonin never does Melatonin is both water (hydrophilic) and fat (lipophilic) soluble. This grants it access to move freely through cell membranes, blood, cytosol, and mitochondria. Most antioxidants are stuck in one compartment, melatonin patrols them all Itās one of the few antioxidants that can get into mitochondria, where most free radicals are generated. It stabilizes the inner membrane, supports electron transport, and prevents oxidative chain reactions at their source I think the most shocking fact about it is that over 95% of your melatonin is made inside your mitochondria, not in your pineal gland, and itās produced during the day, not just at night Mainstream medicine still hasnāt caught up to that truth Put some respect on endogenous melatonin npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Calling sunscreen anti aging is a joke Youāre blocking the very UV and infrared light your skin uses to build collagen, make Vitamin D3, generate nitric oxide, and stimulate melanin based photo-protection All sunscreens (both chemical and mineral based) disable natural photoadaptation and mitochondrial signaling, processes that actually preserve skin structure and youth āWhen itās black, it donāt crackā is a cultural truth pointing in the direction of eumelanin, but also melanin at large Nature already equipped melanin rich skin with a full spectrum sunscreen and anti aging mechanism And guess what All skin types have melanin, you just have to maximize its longevity and function through a circadian aligned lifestyle and sunbathing framework https://blossom.primal.net/d40b3fa962bdcc579c422fd7f46b8685d12bf55735250fd393b2a478c4e3ef65.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Enzo loves his hooga book red light https://blossom.primal.net/78145c898bf48165e2816a72f500017a316adc40d9e4e18cd49113bed9222d57.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Circadian eyesight regeneration isnāt some fringe idea, it was the norm for our ancestors Long before screens, sunglasses, and artificial light, human vision was constantly bathed in the sunās full spectrum from sunrise to sunset The daily dance between light during the day and darkness at night trained, nourished, and regenerated the visual system Our eyes evolved in lockstep with the sun, not under fluorescents or LEDs Mitochondria are circadian controlled organelles. Opsins are circadian controlled light sensing proteins. Melanin is a circadian and electromagnetic biological polymer These are all light sensing mechanisms central to eye function and longevity What we call ādeclineā today was once prevented naturally, and often reversed, through nothing more than consistent circadian alignment Your ancestors didnāt need eye exercises or blue light blocking lenses to preserve their vision, their entire lifestyle was an ocular regeneration protocol because nature built it in as a feature Every phase of daytime light carries specific frequencies that tunes and maintains the melanin, photoreceptors, retinal pigment epithelium, mitochondria, and even ocular blood flow Contrast that with today People spend 90%+ of their time indoors on average, staring at backlit screens under static artificial light The retina is starved of the spectral diversity and rhythms it evolved to depend on Itās no surprise that myopia, dry eye, and degenerative eye diseases are skyrocketing The problem isnāt genetic, itās epigenetic based on chronic circadian disruption because the environment has changed drastically This isnāt pseudoscience, your own beloved mainstream research confirms the power of light for vision Longer wavelengths like red improve color contrast vision with a single three minute exposure, with it lasting for up to one week Violet light stops myopia through the activation of the EGR1 gene in human beings Red and infrared regenerates opsins, while retinal dopamine made by bright light from the sun improves photoadaptation Blue light activates melanopsin within intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells, creating systemic circadian alignment Green light for the improvement of headaches/migraines as shown through the work of Dr. Tom Seager, with that light into the eyes peripherally being a key component of the process UV-A stimulates the release of nitric oxide and activates the pituitary-retinal axis, affecting dopamine and other neurotransmitters crucial for eye growth and focus regulation UV-B influences ocular immune regulation and indirectly supports tear film and corneal health through systemic pathways This is some of the most well grounded science available to human beings, but your optometrist and ophthalmologist donāt know that https://blossom.primal.net/9f51192d882236c382abeb18f892f19133d548720bbfb75e1a09e96234fa7d39.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Modern medicine is broken You can preach about how great it is for acute care, and Iāll agree, but thatās a distraction from the real issue People like me whoāve experienced iatrogenic harm donāt care about excuses. Weāve been burned, directly or indirectly, by the very system meant to heal As an example, the system itself, a medical bureaucracy, inflicted harm by penalizing my midwife who acted in my familyās best interest during an emergency. Thatās institutional iatrogenesis Heavy is the head that wears the crown, so take it on the chin, not up the ass Knowing what iatrogenesis means ā reflecting on your role in perpetuating it. Every pilot understands gravity, that doesnāt mean crashes arenāt caused by bad training or broken systems Complexity doesnāt excuse negligence or misaligned incentives. Itās one thing to accept risk, while itās another to normalize harm as inevitable Patient āself-harmā is often secondary to a system that fails to educate, empower, or create health literate citizens. The culture conditions dependency, then blames the dependent. Sounds like an abusive and alcoholic parent āDonāt confuse your Google search with my medical degreeā is the type of arrogance Iām talking about When the entire model rewards treatment over prevention, blaming the patient for acting āautogenicallyā is hypocrisy Yes, doctors may be more ethical than pharma execs or insurers, but thatās like saying the captainās the most sober man on a sinking ship Ethics are relative within the system, and that doesnāt absolve the professionās complicity in the machine Iāve seen more people heal from sunrise, movement, and truth than from any prescription written under fluorescent lights Modern medicine doesnāt own health, but people are waking up, literally and figuratively If I break my leg, Iām obviously going to the hospital. If I have an acute situation that requires a hospital visit, Iāll have no problem going Thatās what modern medicine should be for. Acute trauma, emergencies, saving lives when seconds matter But donāt treat me like a fucking idiot whoās incapable of learning, thinking, or discerning truth for myself Because where Iāll actually find health, where Iāll reverse disease, restore energy, and build resilience will never be inside those walls lit by toxic lighting Itāll be outside In the sun, in the cold, in the rhythms of nature that trained my biology long before medicine tried to manage it https://blossom.primal.net/44de73cfbbac06f835bb9b00dd6811e5a318ba018382bfe8c8d89166e00662cb.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj There are many Vitamin D metabolites that differ in water solubility, how long they last, and their ability to be reactivated in tissues when needed This means your body can store Vitamin D in different forms, keep it circulating longer, and reactivate it on demand, hence Vitamin D status isnāt just about new production, but also how well your system manages and taps into these reserves Because of this, someone with strong metabolic and circadian rhythms can stay Vitamin D sufficient longer, even with little sun, by cycling and reusing stored forms efficiently On the flip side, if those pathways are disrupted, your body will likely struggle to access or convert those stored metabolites, leading to deficiency even if you technically have plenty in the bank Skin type absolutely matters, but mainly upstream, at the level of how much Vitamin D you can make and store in the first place, not so much in the downstream recycling Darker skin makes Vitamin D more slowly because higher eumelanin blocks UV-B more effectively, but once D3 is produced and metabolized, the sulfation, storage, and recycling pathways work similarly Lighter skin can build up stores faster with less UV-B exposure, but if circadian rhythms or metabolic health are poor, they can burn through or fail to mobilize those stores just as easily This is such a game changing and refreshing narrative involving Vitamin D3 acquisition and storage npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj For many, this is true https://blossom.primal.net/ffd47df9dd09937815a18d051f7418d84c982e798cafe2b145b51e06236ad975.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj GM https://blossom.primal.net/f10b28f39292406a41a3aa90a383cb509237132d15a2d0923a3b464b72067eae.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Most melanomas occur on body parts that rarely see the sun This alone should make you pause. If full spectrum sunlight were the primary culprit, youād expect the highest melanoma rates on chronically sun exposed areas like the face, neck, and forearms Instead, melanomas overwhelmingly appear on the trunk, thighs, and other typically covered areas That pattern doesnāt scream UV causation, it points to something deeper, like systemic chronic circadian and metabolic dysfunction https://blossom.primal.net/f184f479e2a46f404357bc733586a9eb655c3eeb3bbc6e4274cb1fc3a1429721.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Hereās where mechanisms meet the real world results, and I love to see it because my most recent Substack article explains much of the why behind this Most think itās impossible for Vitamin D levels to rise through a cold, āsun and UV poorā Canadian winter despite no supplementation 1. Mobilization of fat stores during cold exposure. 25(OH)D is fat-soluble and stored in body fat. Frequent cold exposure increases sympathetic tone, brown adipose tissue activation, and lipolysis, which mobilizes stored lipophilic compounds, including Vitamin D metabolites, into circulation In winter, youāre not necessarily producing new Vitamin D through skin UV-B exposure, but your body is liberating what you stored during summer, raising serum levels 2. Enhanced sulfation and circulation dynamics in cold Cold exposure upregulates hepatic sulfotransferase activity and improves peripheral circulation Sulfated Vitamin D metabolites like 25(OH)Dā-3-sulfate) are more water-dispersible and can act as a circulating reserve pool, re-entering active circulation when lipolysis and transport proteins shift Likely making more Vitamin D bioavailable or detectable in standard blood tests depending on the assay 3. Seasonal hormonal and binding protein fluctuations Vitamin Dābinding protein and albumin levels are not static, they fluctuate seasonally and under stress. Cold exposure, changes in liver metabolism, and altered circadian photoperiods can shift DBP levels. A lower DBP concentration can increase the proportion of free and bioavailable 25(OH)D, which can raise measured total levels depending on the test 4. Reduced conversion to active metabolites In colder months, metabolic rates and sun exposure patterns shift. If less 25(OH)D is being converted to 1,25(OH)āD (the active form), the circulating pool of 25(OH)D might actually RISE because less is being drawn downstream Think of it like reduced spending during hibernation, the checking account balance creeps up because withdrawals slow down 5. Circadian and photoperiod adaptations Even without external UV-B, proper light entrainment through getting AM light daily keeps the hepatic-renal axis and hormonal cascades in sync, further supporting efficient recycling and conservation of Vitamin D metabolites Circadian alignment creates more efficient Vitamin D homeostasis ā¢ā¢ā¢ All this points to some fascinating overlap that most people do not consider A winter rise in Vitamin D likely reflects a synergy of three processes: 1. Mobilization of stored lipophilic D metabolites through cold-induced lipolysis 2. Enzymatic reconversion of conjugated metabolites into measurable 25(OH)D 3. Endogenous biophoton UV-B photochemistry acting on cholesterol/sulfated precursors, sustaining low level Vitamin D production even in the absence of external UV-B This is why I advocate for sunbathing when the time is right, so you can build that reserve of Vitamin D metabolites In winter, especially with cold exposure and good circadian hygiene, your body liberates and conserves those stores more efficiently, oftentimes enough to increase serum Vitamin D, even without new synthesis The human animal is built for this https://blossom.primal.net/8518ba77ac82e0db94f9b791ae732d664f4f7a7654eac343bc298a52ba22e6df.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Maybe your Vitamin D3 levels arenāt meant to stay sky high all year Maybe, just maybe, life is built on seasonal duality, not perpetual summer Even at the equator, thereās no such thing as true perpetual summer, itās just a different kind of rhythm. The sun might rise and set at nearly the same time year-round, but rainfall patterns, food availability, humidity, and cloud cover create their own seasonal cues that living systems have adapted to Equatorial populations still experience cycles, theyāre just less about temperature and more about rain, light diffusion, and ecological shifts. The body still syncs to these environmental rhythms So the idea of keeping D3 status or any biological marker ālocked inā year-round is ahistorical and biologically tone deaf Even natureās most stable environments pulse Modern thinking treats health like a thermostat. Pick an āoptimalā number and lock it in What they fail to understand is that biology is rhythmic. Vitamin D3 levels naturally rise with abundant UV-B in summer and decline through winter, mirroring changes in light, temperature, food availability, and circadian gene expression, so forth Forcing levels to remain elevated year-round through supplements or artificial UV ignores this deeper rhythm and turns you into a neurotic pain in the ass Winter is a different operating mode Just like trees shed their leaves, your physiology shifts gears.. altering hormone cascades, immune tone, and metabolic priorities. Flattening these seasonal waves may feel optimized on paper, but it often clashes with how humans actually evolved to function The point? Keeping the phone on your body = maximum exposure For most of human history, the body experienced only natural (native) electromagnetic fields from the Earthās Schumann resonances, cosmic background radiation, and sunlightās broad spectrum Suddenly, weāre placing high frequency, pulsed nnEMFs directly on reproductive glands, mammary tissue, and major nerves for hours a day, often overnight These tissues are highly vascularized (absorbing more energy), hormone sensitive (breast, testes, ovaries), and Undergo constant cellular turnover, making them more vulnerable to chronic stressors Even if we set aside debates about long term carcinogenicity, constantly bombarding sensitive tissue with an artificial signal source is reckless Airplane mode is common sense Turning your phone off or switching to airplane mode when itās on your body: 1. Because we have chromophores all over the exterior and interior of our bodies Chromophores are molecules or parts of molecules responsible for the color of compounds They are typically the parts of a molecule that absorb visible light or ultraviolet light, leading to electronic transitions When a chromophore absorbs light, it moves to an excited state, and the energy associated with this transition often falls within the visible spectrum, which is why we perceive color So, how does this tie into the mitochondria? Well, each mitochondrion in your body contains a series of complexes which are designed to transfer electrons through redox reactions to produce energy (ATP) This chain of complexes is what we call the electron transport chain, and itās found within the inner mitochondrial membrane Mitochondria are the lifeblood of each cell, hence they make all the difference between health and disease, life and death It ties in perfectly because of this fact: The entire electron transport chain is LOADED with chromophores which are critical to the function of these complexes Now hereās where it gets fun I told you that your mitochondria are light-sensing organelles Now hereās why ā”ļø Complex I (NADH:Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase) ⢠Flavin Mononucleotide (FMN): Absorbs light at around 370 nm (UV) and 450 nm (blue light) ⢠Iron-Sulfur Clusters: These clusters have broad absorption, typically in the 400-600 nm range, but they donāt have distinct peaks like other chromophores ā”ļø Complex II (Succinate:Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase) ⢠Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide (FAD): Absorbs at around 370 nm (UV) and 450 nm (blue light) ⢠Iron-Sulfur Clusters: Similar to Complex I, absorption is broad and typically in the 400-600 nm range ā”ļø Complex III (Cytochrome bc1 Complex) ⢠Cytochrome b: - bL (low potential form): Absorbs at around 563 nm (yellow-green) - bH (high potential form): Absorbs at around 566 nm (yellow-green) ⢠Cytochrome c1: Absorbs at around 552 nm ⢠Rieske Iron-Sulfur Protein (2Fe-2S cluster): Absorption is broad, typically between 400-500 nm ā”ļø Complex IV (Cytochrome c Oxidase) ⢠Cytochrome a: Absorbs at ~ 605 nm ⢠Cytochrome a3: Absorbs at ~ 655 nm Both orange and red light absorbed here ⢠Copper Centers (CuA and CuB): These centers absorb broadly in the visible region, but their exact absorption properties are less defined than the heme chromophores ā”ļø Additional Chromophores in the ETC Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q): Ubiquinone itself is not strongly absorbing in the visible spectrum but does have weak absorption peaks in the UV range, around 275-290 nm Biophoton emission right there ā”ļø Cytochrome c (Mobile Carrier) Cytochrome c has an absorption wavelength of ~ 550 nm (in reduced form) Now hereās the million dollar question Why does the entire electron transport chain sense various wavelengths of light from the sun at extreme precision? I want to see the look on every physician, dermatologist, and ophthalmologistās face when theyāre shown this information The overall absorption range of the chromophores within the electron transport chain is between ~ 200 nm to ~ 900 nm From extremely low-frequency UV light (biophotons) to NIR light Any argument against sunlight exposure or the use of sunglasses, sunscreen, sun-avoidance is hereby deemed as retarded knowing this information This is especially the case because mitochondria control the health of every cell and are found everywhere in the body I rest my case https://blossom.primal.net/568378c21b48ac45b6825837afc097d33e9b30cf77da954e33cd107cbe026c56.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Mitochondria gives cells a tan You read that correctly Letās put this reductionist notion that mitochondria are simply the powerhouse of the cell to rest They surpass that simplistic label, as they play a far more complex role, including a significant influence on skin pigmentation and melanin development ā¢ā¢ā¢ Mitochondria are involved in various cellular processes that affect skin pigmentation: They are the energy supply for melanin production through their ability to provide ATP, essential for the biosynthesis of melanin Mitochondria produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can influence melanin production. An increase in ROS can stimulate melanogenesis, leading to darker pigmentation They control apoptosis (programmed cell death), affecting the turnover of melanocytes, which are the cells that make melanin (PMID: 19659442) Mitochondria regulate calcium within the cell. Proper calcium uptake by mitochondria is essential for melanin production in melanosomes (PMID: 39527653) Mitochondria sit at the heart of redox balance. They regulate the redox environment, which in turn influences the stability of tyrosinase, a key enzyme in melanin synthesis, and affects melanosomes ā¢ā¢ā¢ What more proof do you need that melanin production is a cornerstone of human health? Stop listening to centralized dermatologists who view biology and skin through a reductionist lens Itās time to cultivate your tan through wise full spectrum sun exposure, aligned with a circadian appropriate framework https://blossom.primal.net/f3cc9832b74b6106ff93d4fb3fd394c90dc7be4c24d536e95790159327c6711b.jpg https://blossom.primal.net/6b700c2c06ffc2448d6eabd8d1dc472faf315a2f546d1582e7142ea242869bed.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Here we go The latest episode featuring the most based physician, Dr. Abud Bakri. They strip electrons from food, pump protons to create a charge gradient (~150 - 180 mV), then discharge that gradient through ATP synthase, a molecular turbine That proton-motive force is literally a nanoscopic electrical storm Hereās whatās crazy The mitochondrial inner membrane potential is around ā150 mV Given the membrane is only ~5 nm thick, the electric field across it is on the order of 30 million volts per meter (30 MV/m) Thatās stronger than the electric field in a lightning bolt Your mitochondria are biological lightning engines that run billions of tiny lightning strikes per second, inside you, to keep you alive Put some respect on Godās work https://blossom.primal.net/455a978ff62281af9372fde41f1425c33de9c0ce4d820f9a270ef0aff843c0d3.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj On nano and ānon-nanoā sunscreens 1. Your skin circadian driven organ Barrier function (stratum corneum tightness, lipid organization, permeability) varies by time of day, usually strongest at night and weakest during the day Sunscreens are mostly applied in the morning/daytime, precisely when skin is naturally more permeable and meant to interact with full spectrum sunlight Nanoparticles slipping in during this window is problematic 2. Metal ions in the blood act as circadian clock disruptors Zn²⺠is not neutral. Itās a powerful cofactor in transcription factors, enzymes, and synaptic signaling Sudden spikes from non-dietary routes (skin ā blood ā CSF) could scramble local zinc homeostasis thatās usually tuned to food intake timing and gut absorption Titanium (TiOā NPs) is even trickier because bulk TiOā is inert, but nanosized TiOā generates EXCESS reactive oxygen species under UV, throwing off the intricate balance involved with ROS and RNS within the system 3. Consider the circadian consequences š Melatonin suppression at the wrong place/time Zinc and titanium nanoparticles can accumulate in mitochondria, altering ROS signaling Melatonin is not just made in the pineal gland. Itās also made locally in mitochondria via the sub-cellular form if nanoparticles hijack redox homeostasis, melatoninās nighttime signal weakens š Central vs peripheral clock confusion The skin clock reads the light in your environment, while the liver clock reads the food environment. Introducing artificial nanoparticle stressors through the skin is like giving the skin clock false input, which then feeds back to the SCN š Neurotoxicity risk If Zn²⺠ions cross into cerebral spinal fluid, they can modulate NMDA receptors, excitability, and even contribute to neurodegeneration This is especially concerning when exposure happens daily in sync with sunlight, the very zeitgeber meant to entrain brain clocks ā¢ā¢ā¢ Normally, sunlight enters through your skin and sends clean signals to your cells and brain about what time of day it is When you cover your skin with nanoparticles, youāre letting tiny foreign particles slip inside Instead of sunlight guiding your bodyās clocks, these particles interfere with the signal, creating confusion in how your cells and brain read light This blunts the natural circadian benefits of sunlight (progressive UV tolerance, melanin signaling, nitric oxide release) while layering in an unnatural, time dependent toxic load From a circadian standpoint, ZnO and TiOā nanoparticles in sunscreens arenāt just a toxicology problem Theyāre an information problem They introduce chaos into a system that relies on precise temporal signaling from light, food, and redox balance Put simply, they trick your body into thinking theyāre part of sunlightās signal, but instead they scramble your internal clocks ā¢ā¢ā¢ Both nano and so called ānon-nanoā sunscreen options have issues, just different flavors of them Nano (ZnO, TiOā) Nanoparticles can slip through the skin into blood and even CSF, disrupting metal balance, oxidative stress, and circadian signaling Nano TiOā also acts like a photocatalyst, generating excess free radicals under UV light that damage cells When washed off, these particles pollute rivers and oceans, harming plankton, corals, and fish Yet companies still label them āsafe mineral sunscreens,ā where āsafeā often only means not immediately irritating, not truly circadian or mitochondrial safe Non-Nano (larger ZnO, TiOā particles) āNon-nanoā particles are often just slightly bigger than the nano cutoff, but can still fragment into smaller pieces on the skin They block UV-B, the very wavelength range needed for Vitamin D3 production, while leaving a white cast that companies often āfixā by secretly blending in smaller particles Even larger ZnO can still leach zinc ions into sweat and the bloodstream, just at lower levels than true nanoparticles Nano = higher penetration risk + excess ROS stress Non-nano = less penetration, but still blocks critical light wavelengths and often hides nano fragments anyway Both confuse the circadian system by replacing evolutionary light signaling with an artificial barrier or intrusion This is why Iām so strict on my recommendation of no sunscreen use, in any form What I just laid out here is informed consent in practice, not the typical nonsense of āuse this XYZ sunscreen to avoid burnsā I choose no sunscreen because the body only adapts in the way it should by respecting circadian principles and implementing progressive overload for melanin development Sunlight exposure when UV-A and UV-B are out isnāt to be abused It must be approached with gradual, mindful exposure rather than reckless overexposure And if you choose to be in scenarios that increase the risk of overexposure, while using any sunscreen option, thatās your choice Again, informed consent https://blossom.primal.net/356e79d43855cb349f712204ebe31e1b3500f83c6131b40a020a8cf57f5b1849.jpg https://blossom.primal.net/2cb504b7bbb27682712fa5f81c65b0291e278c25ffd0822068e707a7c234e573.jpg https://blossom.primal.net/df788a4c64a9e6120ccd76ca3ffdf9e1d0feca9919b9c6ec7d897dcc07e61020.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj The story I hope people will tell when Iām gone is that I reminded them the sun was enough That I helped them see their body as perfectly designed, not broken That I have them the tools to reclaim their health without fear, dogma, or dependence on a system that profits from disease management and sickness If people say, āBecause of Zaid, I started watching sunrise, developed a mad tan, changed how I lived, and passed that wisdom to my kids,ā then Iāve done my job Thatās the legacy I want A ripple effect of people realigning with natureās rhythm. Youād be correct I will always argue that the results would be way more impressive with full spectrum sunlight because it shows us the full effect, rather than just proof of mechanism This study narrowed in on 450 - 480 nanometer blue light to show melanopsin/TRPC signaling in fat cells Thatās elegant for mechanistic proof, but it only scratches the surface In nature, light is never monochromatic. Full spectrum sunlight is polychromatic and carries a dynamic orchestra of wavelengths (UV-A, UV-B, violet, green, red, infrared), all working in layered synergy What we see in this paper is the bare minimum effect. Blue alone tweaks lipolysis and adipokine signaling But in the real world, those signals would be amplified, modulated, and stabilized by the rest of the spectrum Researchers often isolate a single wavelength to prove mechanism, in this case, that subcutaneous white adipocytes (scWAT) have a melanopsin/TRPC mediated light sensitive pathway By showing that just blue light can trigger measurable currents and metabolic changes (lipolysis, adiponectin/leptin secretion shifts, reduced lipid droplet size), they establish causality Melanopsin (the blue light sensing opsin found throughout the body) absorbs in this range and directly mediates fat cell signaling This study shows proof of principle Your fat cells are literally photoreceptive, they āseeā blue light through melanopsin and change metabolic behavior in response What does this mean from a physiological standpoint? That under the sun, blue light within the full spectrum helps tune fat metabolism, aligning lipolysis and adipokine signaling with the dayās activity/eating cycle But, this is a two way street It also means that isolated blue light at night will distort adipocyte signaling, promoting fat storage, leptin/adiponectin imbalance, and metabolic dysfunction through circadian disruption If the researchers used full spectrum sunlight (or at least a solar simulator), they likely would have seen: š Greater lipid mobilization because of red/infrared synergy š Stronger leptin/adiponectin modulation (hormonal entrainment, not just a stress response) š Circadian phase reinforcement with UV + blue acting as zeitgebers š Less oxidative ānoiseā or stress compared to blue in isolation Instead of proving that fat cells can sense blue, the paper would have demonstrated that sunlight orchestrates fat metabolism through opsins in fat itself Thatās a paradigm shifting story https://blossom.primal.net/3ff2d147158ef61dd223636eb433c4f1c724a3e46d2ba51a8cb5f7766a73d30b.jpg https://blossom.primal.net/58964f5c7593a793aa418549d1f193dec0492489e1d91af4187defc702d9b120.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj New Substack article is live https://open.substack.com/pub/zaidkdahhaj/p/the-sun-is-the-original-gym?r=mkt9&utm_medium=ios https://blossom.primal.net/59f1004bc9b2598eed6e5cfa55835cdc4d8f26332d2690b612492b6845f51a06.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj At least 10-15 minutes of both sunrise and UV-A rise are my rule of thumbs. Itās not something you stumble into by accident. It requires a dedicated practice Watching sunrise? Great, youāre still not making D3 Making it dark at night? Great, still not making D3 UV-A rise? Fantastic, still not making D3 You must be sunbathing with BARE SKIN when UV-B is present to begin the conversion process in your body Let me remind you of the conversion process involved here: 1. UV-B hits the skin and penetrates into the epidermis (outer most layer of the skin) 2. UV-B changes the shape of the starting molecule known as 7-DHC (7-dehydrocholesterol) 3. This UV-B induced change turns 7-DHC into Pre-Vitamin D3. With heat, pre-vitamin D3 naturally rearranges into Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 4. Thatās where binding for transport occurs. Vitamin D3 cannot float freely in the blood, so it binds to a carrier called DBP (Vitamin D Binding Protein), forming DBP-VD3 5. Once bound, it moves through the bloodstream where it can later be activated in the liver and kidneys into the full active hormone form (calcitriol) I have bad news if you use any form of SPF as well, so prepare yourself SPF 15 blocks ~93% of UV-B SPF 30 blocks ~97% of UV-B SPF 50 blocks ~98 of UV-B SPF 100 blocks ~99% of UV-B So if you use any form of sunscreen, whether chemical or mineral based, youāre blocking the very light wavelength range needed to produce D3 (also one of your most potent anti-cancer hormones) Negligible conversion is happening, even if you do a shitty job of applying your sunscreen considering the chronic circadian disruption that a modern lifestyle creates, further worsening D3 status People who donāt have a strong circadian education are likely to make these simple mistakes And I see it time and time again https://blossom.primal.net/471b36598cf33d7908eedec3f0752c3c0f2d12ec86262bd60eb980946c01ed24.jpg npub1q5k7s6dnyzzne90wsc8vujsfk2c5lz54au6tmmcz00932d8zgnqswwwuuu zaidkdahhaj Hereās some circadian skin education you wonāt get from your centralized dermatologist All skin layers, from surface to subcutaneous, are circadian governed and light sensing in nature, but in different ways You have three primary skin layers (epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis) along with five sub-layers within the epidermis Letās go through each one: 1. The epidermis (think of this outermost layer as the light gatekeeper) Itās packed with circadian skin clocks and non-visual photoreceptors (opsins which are light-sensing proteins that pick up on and use various light wavelengths) The five sub-layers within the epidermis are as follows: ⢠Stratum basale: stem cells, melanocytes, mitosis ⢠Stratum spinosum: keratinocyte bonding, immune cells ⢠Stratum granulosum: keratin formation, water barrier ⢠Stratum lucidum (only in thick skin: palms/soles): clear protective layer ⢠Stratum corneum: dead keratinized cells; main physical barrier Melanocytes in the stratum basale respond to UV-A/UV-B to produce melanin (your built in sunscreen) Keratinocytes express core clock genes (like BMAL1, PER1, CRY1) that regulate DNA repair, proliferation, and barrier renewal Opsins (like OPN2, OPN3, OPN5) detect blue, UV, and violet light.. syncing local skin clocks with sunlight Vitamin D3 synthesis (via UV-B) begins in the stratum basale and spinosum, altering calcium regulation and immune function Day = Hormesis + barrier fortification Night = DNA repair, cell renewal via endogenous melatonin 2. The dermis (think of it as the regulatory hub which integrates light signals with deeper physiological responses) Fibroblasts here contain circadian clocks that regulate collagen production, wound healing, and extracellular matrix turnover UV exposure induces mild oxidative eustress here, triggering NRF2 activation, antioxidant release, and remodeling Mast cells and immune cells exhibit circadian rhythms that control inflammation and histamine release based on time of day Red and infrared light (from the sun or red light therapy) penetrates this layer deeply.. stimulating cytochrome c oxidase, boosting ATP, blood flow, and tissue regeneration 3. The hypodermis/subcutaneous tissue (even this deepest layer responds to circadian cues) Adipocytes (fat cells) follow circadian regulation for lipolysis, thermogenesis, and hormone secretion (leptin, adiponectin) Sunlight and temperature fluctuations signal this layer to adjust fat metabolism, particularly brown fat activity (thermogenic, light responsive) Melatonin receptors here modulate energy storage and insulin sensitivity, especially after sunset Every aspect of these layers is connected as one circadian unit. The skinās peripheral circadian clocks sync with the central master clock (SCN) via light, temperature, and hormonal signaling Disruption via artificial light at night, sunglasses, sunscreen use, so forth desynchronizes these layers, impairing barrier integrity, collagen synthesis, immune function, and fat metabolism Iām not kidding when I call the skin barrier as a circadian, light-sensing organ This hierarchy allows the skin to function as a dynamic circadian mechanism. Itās not some dumbass barrier that needs sunscreen to function properly Do you really believe that the human body and skin barrier is a system designed to avoid the sun knowing this? It quite literally needs full spectrum sunlight during the morning, midday, and evening.. along with darkness at night to function properly So, hereās the real question: Has your dermatologist told you about any of this?
