Material 3 Expressive may be my favorite update to Android yet! I like the polish and the extra touches that make it clear how navigating the device or using functions works. I appreciate the increased emphasis on the UI feeling physical without dragging itself down with unnecessary realism, a la Liquid Glass.

After gleaning what happened to Arc Browser, it makes @npub19rt…adh9 seem that much more based. They have been in the productivity browser game for years, stayed true to themselves, and won against their main competitor by not doing anything different. It's to their credit that they could be so stable while offering so much while Arc offered to change the world and got bored? Idk, glad @npub1c7u…lvlq is helping those folks out.

depending on your viewing habits, Nebula might be a good service to pick up. Like half of what I regularly watch is also shared on Nebula, and I get extra content from favorite creators. So it's like half of the time my stuff is ad free.

I feel like Bluesky is the big city and Mastodon is my neighborhood. Bsky is where everyone is, but Mastodon is where I know people and feel more secluded.

I am also in the multi-week process of deciding what to upgrade to from my T480s! Options I'm considering are the T14 Gen 4, T14 Gen 5, and Framework 13. It's been a tough call and I haven't decided. Only thing I have decided on is wanting an Intel processor just to make sure I'm good with Thunderbolt.

How is Linux support going for the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5? I don't see it listed as tested for Ubuntu or Fedora on lenovo.com/Linux but I am hearing that it seems to work well? I think there were some issues related to fixes that hadn't landed yet, but I think they're in the Linux 6.11 kernel.
Anyone here running it? How has Linux support been?

my use case is very simple, mostly office work and browser work. Something portable, like 14-15", and def no num pad. I'm using a T480s, but that's like 6 years old at this point. I'm looking for something within 1-2 years old. But open to broad recommendations!

it's been good for me, but I recently learned about this flag to turn on so that Chromium browsers behave better on Wayland.
Go to Vivaldi://flags and set Preferred Ozone Platform to Auto or Wayland. Don't know what it does exactly, but it makes the browsers not be fuzzy and I can install web apps and they work properly. Not perfect, but much better. Waiting for this to become default hopefully.

With regular Fedora I would have a system with tons of documentation for the terminal, third party support, more flexibility for maintaining the system instead of being limited to flatpaks and containers, and something that works like servers do.
In the long run I think Fedora Atomic will catch up, and I don't plan on stopping using it either. But for now I know that those systems work very differently from each other and I want to expand my horizons. Lol

Kinoite works great for me, but I know that under the system it doesn't work the same as a traditional system. If I want to get more comfortable with the terminal I would be learning things that only apply to Fedora's specific implementation of the atomic model.

You know what I'm tempted to try? Fedora KDE. Been over a year since I ran a traditional Linux desktop and I think it would be nice to run a system that I can tinker with directly. Still love atomic systems, but idk I'm kind of feeling the vibe of regular Linux.
Maybe what I'll do is make the switch come Fedora 41. My main laptop may switch to Aurora (if it comes out of beta) and my spare switches to Fedora KDE.

that's my battle right now. After looking at One UI I think I love it now, but I'm trying to weigh it against the privacy costs of a stock Pixel, as well as the opportunity cost of not being able to install GrapheneOS on a Samsung.

good to know. I've been trying to get more familiar with how restrictive Samsung is on the software removal side of things and I am coming across a lot of the old bloatware concerns. Pixels don't come with as much and let you disable apps, but I'm not sure how much of that is available in One UI.
I wish someone had a guide on "hardening" a Galaxy phone to help me understand where the privacy concerns are more specifically.

Alright, help me. I know Samsung does not have a great reputation for digital privacy
What is the current status of that? Are they still a lot worse for privacy minded people than a Google Pixel?
Asking because I am being severely tempted to trade in my Pixel 8 for an S24 because the first party features and customization look incredible.
I want to check my assumptions.
