I finished this a few weeks ago now but my car is manual 🎉
Took like a week and half of doing stuff before and after work, but so worth it. The tactile feeling of having the manual transmission now is sick. I put in a P20 B000 from a 1995 Civic Si, so my final drive went from about 3.7 to around 4.2. Much more power and torque on the low end, stays responsive through the power band. Very nice. Proud of myself for DIYing this, my first time doing something this complicated on the car. Everything works great.

The $300 bumper you sent is unpainted so you’d be spending hundreds more to get it painted & installed vs <$150 to do it yourself with a factory made bumper.
You can get the bumper for $85 from the yard. There’s an 08 Escape at the yard I’m going to tomorrow so if you like I’ll check it out, and it’s in good condition I can get it for you, just shoot me the money. Then we can find a day soon for you to drive to my place and we can do the swap.

I mean typically water is getting behind there already, it’s not an airtight cover so I wouldn’t be too concerned on that front. $500 is not bad but also like hundreds more than it would cost to DIY. Plus your car is black so easy colour to find. Also this is a fix we could do still at this time of year, it’s just cold lol. Do you have a garage?

There’s a handful of second generation Escapes (08-12) at the Kenny-U-Pull yard nearest to you (approx 18m drive), all of which have front bumpers that fit your 09. As per most bumper covers it also only takes a handful of screws and bolts to get it off/put it on. How bad is the damage on yours? Can you drive it through winter and fix it in the spring? Or is this something you’d want to address immediately?

I’m gonna take an educated guess and assume there’s no structural damage - you hit their back gate which is tinfoil compared to your solid steel bumper lol. The plastic cover, however, never survives. If it’s just that, could be ~$100 junkyard visit and an afternoon spent with a friend fixing it (potentially me!).

Rear bumper turned out pretty well, need to redo it when I get more paint tho cuz I ran out so it was a little splotchy.
Soon to be installing some fog lights on the front end.
Moving to a new, bigger apartment soon! I’ll also have a garage at the new place among other things. Looking forward to a new chapter.

Well I suppose I shall post a life update!
After stepping down from my management position in the food service industry I went to working with a friend at his custom cabinetry and mill working company. Learned a lot of really valuable & cool skills, gained a bunch of useful experience, and got to spend a bunch of time with one of my best friends who I consider like a brother to me.
Recently I’ve stopped working with him as I’m finally approaching the completion of my pre-requisites for my electricians apprenticeship. I have a final test to write for physics and then I’ll be applying.
So close I can taste it!!!!

Something I find I really enjoy about Nostr is that people are more open to sharing their ideas, and generally in response others will share theirs even if they disagree. In that case as well, folks tend to engage in respectful discourse rather than argue and devolve to insults like other internet subcultures.

That’s not how that works and you know that, Craig. When two people express intent to be in a mutually exclusive monogamous relationship, they’ve made an agreement with one another that they are a couple and therefore not single anymore, and any such behaviour would result in an end to the relationship. It’s not even remotely the same thing as going on a FIRST date with a girl and she’s texting other people. It’s not like she video called some guy, it’s literally the same thing as an incoming phone call or message, someone else made the action not her. You’re definitely allowed to have your preferences and if you want to only date people who also only date one person that’s great, have at it. But it’s ridiculously conceited to project your opinion on other people, especially when they’re behaving entirely regularly. When I was single and on first dates with women, I too would receive messages from other women I was speaking to or sleeping with. It’s societally normal to be talking with multiple people when meeting people in the hopes of finding a romantic partner. Once you find that connection, you stop talking to everyone else because you don’t need to anymore: you have found what you were looking for.
