I may have mentioned this, but my latest food obsession is slow roasted/caramelized/confit cabbage! 250-300F in the oven for about 2 hours (or longer) with just olive oil and salt. There are other recipes online with various spices, but I find the low and slow makes a good cabbage (my local organic store has fabulous produce) so sweet and I love the taste of just the vegetable itself usually. #Cabbage #Foodie

What I would add is that having a plan that I can see makes me happy. Yes, there are many different options to take, but I've run a variety of scenarios and am happy knowing we have a plan that we can adjust as needed, depending on how the market does, how our health does, etc. I'm a bit OCD about it maybe, but by the time I'm too old to think it through, I hope it will all be muscle memory. :)

Yup. We have never paid AUM fees to an advisor and we are ahead because of it. But as we age, we know we're going to have to work with someone (and we don't have kids) who will be able to seamlessly take over from us when the time comes. Borne out of school of hard knocks dealing with Hubby's parents' financial management as my FIL passed away and now I handle all my MIL's financial stuff, legal, medical, you name it.

Also woe to the advisor who is sloppy with their input. When we first retired we hired someone who input Hubby's pension as mine. We asked about life insurance, and he said, "you'll be fine" but after I dug into the annual plan he provided to us I noted that he had applied the pension to me! We never did transfer our investments to his firm, and as soon as I noted the egregious input errors, we fired him.

I keep hearing stories from people who don't understand personal finance and hire someone to manage everything and give up SO MUCH money in fees for something, certainly in the early years, that could be DIY in my humble opinion. Those fees snowball - in the advisor's favor!

The world is changing. Software is getting pretty darned sophisticated for DIYers, and financial advisors who cling to their old way of doing business and trying to get as many client funds under their umbrella for high fees, are going the way of the dodo if you ask me.

Huge brownie points to financial advisor we interviewed today. I mentioned the software (Boldin) that we use as DIYers and in the two weeks since we set up the appointment he had created an account and explored it himself and was able to discuss it with us, vs past wealth managers who were pig headed about using ONLY their own systems which did not provide us with visibility into the plan with drill downs, inputs, assumptions, etc.

Oh and I do remember a younger age visit to the UK from India, when I was not allowed to leave the table until I had finished my brussels sprouts. I HATED brussels sprouts back then. And an hour later they were cold and worse. Nowadays I love them. A fave side veggie - barely blanched, then sauteed in browned butter with walnuts and cranberries, with ham and kabocha squash is a fave.

Believe it or not I don't remember! I think my mother cooked occasionally. I grew up in Iran, Lebanon, India, UK for a short while too before moving to the USA. We had cooks and house help except in the UK. My guess is in India we had a combination of more western (British) recipes and Indian food meals. I have absolutely no memory of what we ate in Iran and Lebanon. I do remember Sunday Lunch in Bombay at my grandparents. That was Parsi food! And UGH horrible boarding school meals!

LOL. You have reminded me of when I worked for one of the big consulting firms in the early 80s. Dress code came out for women which said NO pants. As in not even pantsuits. So our office boy (I know I have a problem with that title but that’s what he called himself) came to work in a dress in solidarity with the women.

also the costs and time and difficulty of obtaining original documents needed to apply for a passport. Many don't understand that it's not a matter of just going online (which in and of itself is hard for many) to get old records. Digitization is fairly recent (and spelling errors, or home births, inaccurate databases, etc. all are issues) so it's not always simple to get the basic documents required. #SAVEAct

I picked them up from my local organic fave store. They were so sweet and so carroty. They were the ugliest shaped carrots, but looked so carroty in the store I purchased loads.

a month ago we early voted. In #Virginia we have perpetual absentee voting. We signed up years ago. Each election we get a text notification that our ballots have been mailed. We fill them out at home. We drop them off in county ballot drop box for extra security they don’t go missing. Then we get a text confirmation our ballots were accepted. Nothing we need to cure. I am optimistic we can get rid of the republican authoritarian extremists this election.

If you are nervous about the test, really you don't feel it. They also plopped in some kind of marker for future mammograms reference which now show up on scans. Recommending the 2022 TV series, Sherwood Season 1. It's a murder with a mystery, set in a small town, but so much more. The residents, decades later, still divided by the 1980s miners' strike and hard feelings lurk under the surface. The cast is excellent and it's well written. I was left thinking about human beings and livelihoods and how people muddle (or don't) through change. I'm a terrible reviewer. Not doing it justice. We saw it on Britbox. #TVSeries

Regrettably (post surgery, not able to be mobile for long periods of time) I cannot, but I've been donating to various parts of the #NoKings and other matters - example inflatable animals, whistles, ACLU, etc. Kicking myself that I could have thought to print (on my large format printer) and hand out signs - but will do that for the next one - assuming there will be one.
