I'm constantly confused how to interact with Alby nodes. I can't find any documentation on incoming channels. Do you have to buy a channel first?

Thanks. I've heard mentions of payment comments, json tokens, web sockets, rss, and nostr. All feel "kludgy".

Any firewall config/issues? Can your node setup a tor circuit on port 9001? Check "System / Tor Logs" on the Start9 to see if it's working.

Does AlbyHub allow grpc calls to monitor invoices and send payments (or REST API)?
I'm guessing @npub18a6…pny4 will want to play with writing code to access the lightning data.

Try Thunderhub. It's good for sendong/receiving lightning and on-chain bitcoin. It can also generate keysend payments.

Pruned node works fine. But you still need to process the entire blockchain (initial download).
I use LND. I'd guess most use LND with Umbrel/Start9.

I think I hacked my way through receiving lnpay to my Umbrel without any 3rd party tools. Just a website & an LND node. Can share details if anyone is interested (it isn't pretty).
Have only tested with Alby. If people can throw me a few sats with other lnpay wallets and let me know if there are errors, I'd appreciate it.

This has probably already been said, but if you think a remote node is down check *their* channels with amboss. If all channels are down (red arrows), the node is likely down.
If only your channel is down, then it might be your node.
For example, I'd say boostbot is down.

Yeah, the website isn't the best interface. It started out as a debug tool, to make sure things were working.
Can look into an archive feed, but worry about not having all the extra PC20 features (splits, chapters, album art, etc.).

That's correct. Since I don't modify the RSS, it only contains what is published ("source of truth"). It's the same as the original RSS feed https://feeds.podcastindex.org/pc20.xml with IPFS links to the audio.
But the IPFS website contains episodes back to when the show was first monitored (episode 7). I suppose I could generate an "archive feed", but I only store the enclosures on IPFS. I don't store the transcripts, chapters, splits, or even show notes for old episodes (maybe I should?).

I'm sure there's a more elegant way, but If you hover the export csv url, there's a "count" field and an "end" field. Change the count, and remove the "end"

I've noticed nodes will pin any show that offers an IPFS split.
Kolomona's Libresults podcast has 22 nodes favoriting his feed (with no episodes since 2021).
See the top of https://ipfspodcasting.net/Feed for the difference between shows that offer an IPFS split, vs shows that don't.

That's the difference between v0.29 and v0.30?
Moved my gateway under Proxmox/LXC running IPFS 0.26. Will upgrade.
I'll also upgrade @npub1tk4…3wu7 s gateway from 0.29 to 0.30 to see if that helps.

Yes, I get splits from Fountain, but not VTS.
I was specifically looking for boosts from shows that don't give me a split (therefore a VTS split via an album on IPFS).

I haven't used Fountain in a long time. Scrolled back 6 months in Helipad, but didn't see any VTS from Fountain. I only occasionally get VTS splits from albums you (@npub1unc…6rz6) have uploaded.
I did get a VTS test boost for Tyson Froese an hour ago. But via PodcastGuru, not Fountain.

I'm down to 2 channels. An extra channel couldn't hurt. Doesn't have to be big. Most of my transactions are less than 50 sats.

Thanks. That's what rss.io's gateway looks like also. Looks like a memory leak, but I haven't been able to find any known bugs with IPFS.
I've been restarting my gateway occasionally. Could be why I haven't noticed here.
@npub18me…whve Have you noticed any memory issues with your IPFS gateways? Also, how have you been doing? Was thinking about you the other day.

Thanks for the update. Noticed an issue with the rss.io gateway. Ram would keep climbing until it runs out. They're running on AWS with 4GB ram running v0.29. Haven't noticed this on regular (non-gateway) nodes.
Maybe try a "repo gc" to clean up the datastore (assuming less blocks would consume less ram).

I used to balance my channels by sending lightning to other wallets.
With FixedFloat you can send to your onchain wallet, which will give you inbound liquidity.
If you send to your node's BTC wallet, you can open another channel with the same "value" (excluding fees).

I haven't looked into albyhub.
Just monitor outgoing sats to make sure the alby customkey/customvalue address is still working.

I don't keep extensive logs. I only saw a few lapses in communication from your node. ~3.5 days around March 7th, and ~2.5 days on April 1st. Nothing long enough to erase your favorites.
If you keep emails, [email protected] sends an alert when your node stops requesting for 24 hours (subject "Your node went silent"). Maybe clues if you have those emails.
But as you say, no worries. I'll monitor more closely when nodes/favorites get removed to see if I find any bugs.

It appears the node was offline for a while.
After no contact for ~7 days, your pinned files aren't available/reliable, so the node has to re-pin everything when it comes back online.
After ~14 days, it's assumed the node is never coming back, so your favorites are "cleaned up" and the node is deleted.
If you power back on after 14 days, it's a new node again (you have to re-favorite & re-pin everything).
This is to keep an accurate count of active nodes & pinned files.

You can install LND from the Lightning category.
Under Marketplace "change" to the Community Registry and install Helipad (in the Bitcoin category).
Of course nothing will work until your Bitcoin node is synced, but you can install these now.
And look at (Bitcoin) / Config / Advanced / Pruning Mode to set the Max Chain Size on your disk (if you can't store the entire blockchain).
It won't speed up the initial sync, but will use less space on your disk.
