I know explaining this to you is probably a waste of time, but when the paper abstract says it is a linear model of aircraft flight based on a flat, nonrotating Earth, that does not in any way mean that the authors believe that the actual Earth has those properties. Those are mathematical simplifications to reduce the complexity of the model, which approximate the local conditions that the simulated aircraft is flying in well enough.
All models are approximations of reality. Those particular properties of reality which are not relevant to the object of study can be neglected. As another example, a scientific paper might create a model of a liquid flowing around a perfectly cylindrical object. Of course there is no such thing as "perfectly" cylindrical when you zoom into something at the microscopic or atomic level, as it will have imperfections, and not be perfectly smooth. Those imperfections are small enough to not be modeled and have a negligible impact on the macroscopic behavior of the fluid flow.

Guess I really did future-proof my gaming PC when I built it 5 years ago, because it still runs great. Ryzen 3700X CPU, Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 GPU, 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM. Only thing I've upgraded is adding more storage. AMD is the boss.

The current state of Nostr key management is not good at all. We need PGP-style subkeys. Ideally, the root key would be kept offline and only be used to add or revoke device keys. Support for multiple signature schemes would also facilitate future enhancements, such as a group signature scheme to deter key-level device usage analysis, and quantum-resistant schemes.

I just use a Google Pixel with stock Android and never sign in to a Google account. Installing open source apps from F-Droid is easy, and you can even use Aurora Store to get most Play Store apps. Yeah there may be some background telemetry going on but for most intents and purposes it's harmless if you are not signed in and thus explicitly identified to Google.

Rust is not the final evolution of programming languages. But it did do something great: "introduced using the type system to enforce rules on resource usage into the mainstream." I was just thinking about how linear types might help with this the other day, so I am pleasantly surprised to see a new project like Austral making it a reality.

If the consensus rules cannot be cleanly separated from the Bitcoin Core implementation, and "the code is the spec", then that is a design flaw. Appealing to the consequences of consensus failure in order to justify this flaw is backwards. I don't blame other teams for at least trying.
BGP is a networking protocol which is also consensus-driven (the global routing table for IP networks) and it has had major issues, which required upgrades and config fixes, but it works okay and has multiple production ready implementations. This is despite the first draft literally being written on napkins. We should learn from BGP and other protocols to inform Bitcoin network development rather than spurn the ideas of specifications and standards entirely. I'm not saying technical specifications are always amazing or that a project without one is awful, but any spec is better than no spec.
