For all the smart devs out there, can anyone give me ideas on how to debug a segfault at runtime. The scenario is, I built a rust lib that calls into some C code. I compiled it into a static lib for ios and shared lib for android.
On ios, it works fine. On android it segfaults saying null pointer dereference.
Weird part is, if I build and use a static lib for android it works fine.
Now I have no idea how to debug this issue because I am not getting any logs or traces. I don't want to use a static lib for android because it makes the apk larger, ideally I want to use a dylib.

The H1B system today is like tax laws for rich people. When there are loop holes, it gets abused. The system was broken for a very long time starting with the lottery process. The people were never the problem, the system was.
One other thing that isn't talked about much is how a lot of American companies have stopped doing in-house hiring of engineers but instead started outsourcing almost all projects to companies like TCS, Infosys, Accenture and Cognizant who have massive bases in India and naturally these companies bring in thousands of workers on H1B and underpaying them or simply use the offshore model.
From my understanding the reason companies started going this route is because hiring in general is hard and imagine hiring 25-30 engineers to do various things for a single project but then also have them on payroll for a long time even after the product is ready because firing isn't easy either. So companies just pay extra to outsource all this work to these software services companies.

Everyone: Lightning is a failure
This makes no sense to me because I don't even understand the criteria of saying it's a failure. Nobody even uses Bitcoin to make payments, that's not lightning's fault. And for the 1% of 1% who actually make any payments, lightning is the only L2 that exists and is the only one that actually works. We can call lightning a failure when we create a circular economy of Bitcoin where merchants accept it and people actually pay with it and then lightning doesn't work in such an economy. The only circular economy we have is white dudes posting tik tok videos of buying coffee in El Salvador and lightning seems to be working fine there.

Passing on complexity to Layer 2 and application devs and expecting them to perform miracles on top of Bitcoin is generally a bad thing. The more complex your code is, the higher the chance of bugs and vulnerabilities. We have to separate out Bitcoin the network and Bitcoin core here.
Bitcoin network needs to be dumb and simple like it already is today. Bitcoin core can do a lot of heavy lifting for layer 2 and app devs by supporting simple op_codes. Ultimately it's the user who will win because their chances of losing money is lowered.

I've setup a windows machine today after like 7 years and the setup process is like a massive advertising campaign.
- 4 different things to sell and each one pops up in a separate screen.
- every single advertising and telemetry setting you have to OPT OUT!!
- mandatory sign in to Microsoft to use the machine.
Windows can get away with all this shit because Macs are expensive and Linux has poor laptop/desktop choices unless you boot from USB and GNOME still sucks after all these years!

A lot of this is true. Imo any open source project makes less progress without a leader, someone who steers the ship and has the final say. Bitcoin core is at a point where core devs just want to avoid all controversy and stay silent and let people fight out. We need more versions of core in other programming languages built from the ground up and implement all consensus rules similar to btcd. Bitcoin core needs more competing implementations where you have leaders who are willing to hit the merge button and publish a release with CTV for example so that people can run the fucking thing.

We already have this today in a way, only a few people have commit access to Bitcoin core repo. Have they done any harm so far? No.
You're over thinking my proposal way too much. Every software project on the planet is lead by a set of people or a foundation. It's a natural thing to do, in Bitcoin's case it's still technically core devs but they have much less power in the sense that they're too scared to make any bold decision.
All I'm saying is, we raise the pool of people who can be the "core" and then start enforcing better rules.
All the code is public anyway, they cannot go do insane things like changing supply cap to 42m from 21m. It's all public.

I didn't say it's one person. I said a pool of people. It could be 100 people or 500.
Soft forks don't need consensus of 1 million randos on twitter. It needs current and ex core devs, people who work on L2 protocols etc who we all know are qualified in making technical decisions.
We have to figure out how to build a pool of qualified people, I'm only proposing how we approach core development going forward.

Not really imo. Getting opinions of people who aren't even qualified to give opinions is useless. I'm not advocating for a Vladimir Putin, but we need a small pool of people who can make sound technical decisions and get shit done. As the price keeps going up, we get more and more people into Bitcoin and all of them want to have a say in what happens inside of core and yet 99% of these people aren't even close to being qualified to having a say or opinion.
You cannot sit and wait to make everyone happy. It's just not going to happen.

We need a new form of Bitcoin-core.
- You propose a consensus change with a BIP and code to show for it.
- Every consensus change should have a review period of max number of days (maybe like 200).
- Have a pool of maybe 200 devs who are smart enough of review proposals.
- Its the responsibility of the proposer to advertise their proposal and get ACKs.
- Get enough tACKs in this window, then merge it.
- Miners will eventually just upgrade and it'll get activated.
- Stop involving finance people with software decisions.
- No debates on twitter, they go nowhere. If people have issues, then show up to talks and debate it live.
Make soft forks normal again.
