I didn't say it wasn't self serving.
I was a favorite aunt. (Not a lot of competition, all 3 of my sister suck in various ways.) But that meant I skipped parenthood, and got the bennies of grandparenting --- sugar them out and send them home when they get whiny.

3 Strikes has been in effect for 30+ years and showed little to no results.
*Targeted* anti gang laws, and crime prevention programs, tho, brought LA's crime rate back to what it was in the 1960's around 10 years after those began. AND, FYI, that effort included *targeted* deportations.

And it was the judges who led the push to reform it.

Sanctuary laws get rid of that problem. Offender gets the same sentence, regardless of immigration status; the state and local PD simply don't record immigration status, and don't allow immigration officials access to the jail. No guilty feels, political pressure, over a deportation for a bench warrant issued for too many parking tickets.
They do tell DHS about offenders who commit major offenses, and let them know when they will be discharged from prison. Don't tell anyone, but at least in California, DHS is unreliable when it comes to picking up those people.

A DUI is a state charge. I suppose she could have called someone she knew given it was her home state, but he always expected things she could not deliver. No one can.
