Well, it seems you expect to see content from other instances unless you have the local filter enabled. That mbin instance works the same way. It displays other content (like yours and mine) and if you turn on the local filter, it shows only content that was created on that instance.

Yeah, the keyword is local though. Does your post show up on that mbin instance when you have it filtered to local? It clearly says your user name which has your instance on it in the screenshot.

it's attributed to you on your chosen instance. I'm interacting with you from another instance as well. This post from my instance is now on firefish.city as well.

That's the federated part of the fediverse. Other people can choose to interact with it on whatever instance/platform they want. You can block that instance so that interactions that happen on that server don't reach yours, but as long as you (or firefish.city) is federating content, anyone can pick it up, even if it's not directly from your server.

I'm still skeptical and I've noticed the drain but I didn't have it setup to just work when off of WiFi. I have a ios shortcut that turns on tailscale for 30 minutes and then turns it off. That way, I can access what ever I need without having to worry about it staying on all the time.
