We're now in Innisfail and have put the carpet under the carwash pressure wash, done the guts again and finally she drinks no longer. Old Mapoon: beautiful, secluded peninsula north of Weipa. Hard to believe the forced evacuation in 1963, to Bamaga (hundreds of miles away), but there's a thriving little alcohol free indigenous community here now. Cultural centre closed coz 'all the laydeez' with their art are in Cairns for the art festival. Spent some time at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre, found the shopping Centre (a small air conditioned complex which looks like an old warehouse from the outside!) and now we're off to Mapoon, an hour's drive north. Clean-up done, but what a waste, lucky we have a box of my jam and marmalade to give away, with spares.
