Have shortened my pomodoros to 20 minutes. How tf do people do this? ADHD is killing me. It’s not that I am not interested in what I am reading, but it takes so much effort to sit still.
I am reading White Skin, Black Fuel for class. It’s a great book but section one is just facts page after page. Section two is theory, and apparently better. I think social scientists need to structure their books better, especially if these books are intended as calls to action.

This book I am currently reading: The Specter of Materialism: Queer Theory and Marxism in the Age of the Beijing Consensus by Petrus Liu, is poorly edited but so insightful.
I am just on the first chapter, and it is a little jargon-heavy, but what I understand from it so far is that queer theory as it has developed has not been able to incorporate materialist analyses. Not only that but it also has in many ways treated non-cishet communities in the Global South as less developed versions of non-cishet people in the Global North, US to be precise. In its effort to not apply a colonial universalism to queer and trans populations of the third world, it has inadvertently excluded them while positioning certain groups as "authentic local subjects" or as "modernized or inauthentic"
In the next chapters he will be exploring the underdevelopment of the Global South and the rise of China in the world order and it's impact on the queer trans communities in CHina (i think?) super excited!

Land Guns Caste Woman is one of the best books I’ve read this year. Absolutely gripping.
It is a window into erstwhile Andhra, particularly Hyderabad in terms of its progressive movements.
Communists in India have been such a let down. Such such such a let down.
Anyway, if you are interested in Telugu radical literature and the anti caste and communist movements in AP please read this book! I cannot recommend it enough.

A take I really disagree with is: “streaming has spelled death for owning art.” The take basically speaks to how we no longer own CDs, mixtapes, tapes, etc. I think that’s the weakest criticism of the current ecosystem. Tbh I do not want to own a lot of books and CDs. It’s wasteful. I would much rather have access to a well-resourced and well stocked library and borrow things from it. I understand owning a few books/movies that will be re-read/watched again and again. Or albums that will be listened to in loop. But most times we don’t do that.
It is also better for the planet that we do not hoard so many things.
