A domain is not a hard requirement, but if you don't have one then people in web clients won't be able to connect.
IP by itself would work in a native client, I think, but who gets a static IP on their homes? And even then how do they expose their relay server through their home router?
Some people can do it, but people have tried to run Lightning nodes on raspberry pis for years and as far as I know the best solution they found was to use Tor, which is so weird as a solution I don't see what they're thinking.
I don't see how Tailscale fixes anything unless you have a server with a reverse proxy in front, in which case you should just run the relay in that server.

The problem with this is the fact that relays need domain names and have to be accessed from the external internet.
I guess you could have a "relay" that is just your personal backup thing or something like that. There is value in this, but only for power users, and not that much even, I think.

I've enabled the WebMCP experimental flag whatever on Chrome and opened Grimoire, but didn't see anything. How do I control my Grimoire with WebMCP?

So you're saying WebMCP is just a thing for the agent itself to open, in his own browser or headless browser or whatever? The agent loads the page and does its thing, closes the page? That's indeed a completely different thing and very uninteresting to me.
But the examples in https://github.com/webmachinelearning/webmcp describe functionality very similar to IPA: the person is on the page and the person asks the AI to do stuff on the page. Am I misreading it?
What I really don't get is where will the person ask the AI, if there is no browser extension and no chatbox in the webpage itself.

Their https://webmcp.dev/ doesn't make a lot of sense, it is saying that you need Claude Desktop and configure some confusing thing just to modify a webpage, but how would Claude Desktop get access to the browser anyway?
The webpage also doesn't mention any browser extensions, but I see that some shady-looking extension is available.

Someone has suggested something like this before: create bridged accounts that later can be turned over to the person if they prove they are who they are. Sounds like a good idea.
We can actually do it using FROST decentralized key generation.
Probably can't be fully automated though, since Instagram is such a dystopia. Maybe we can start with some other source platform? Still it would require some work to select and talk to the targets. And someone trustworthy enough for handling the temporary control of the accounts and taking the flak from the the bridged people who will hate everything.

No. It's just that it started working correctly. Before it had a bug and was adding any note with more than 2 likes to the feed, now it requires the actual percentage you have specified (the default is like 10 or 15%, which means a note needs 20 likes or replies to be included).

Regardless of whether anyone will use it it has to be tried anyway. It's our duty.
Instead of attaching cashu whatever I think it's better to just allow people to buy "credits" first, then use those slowly when publishing.
There are many interesting variants of this idea that I have been planning to work on but couldn't get to them yet. Would be nice if someone else tried.

Internet search is getting very bad.
This is not even the classic comment about how Google Search has become worse. I think it's just that the internet is much bigger now and the "global view" paradigm is not helping.
One issue I'm hitting all the time now: I know a thing exists, I know its name, but search engines can't find it because there are way too many things with that same name showing up first.
Sometimes it's not a lot of things, it's just one thing, but that thing has hundreds of webpages, videos, news articles associated with it and they all show up first.
Maybe they don't even show up first, maybe they're not even more popular (ignore the fact that popularity being a criteria is already fundamentally broken) than the thing I searched for, but just by their massive number they come mixed with the results I actually care about and still clutter everything.
Giving more context in the search doesn't work as it gets ignored always, and maybe this is the part that could be improved.
By the way: AI isn't fixing it because AI still relies on classic search engines.

Let me say it clearly:
The only way to fix reply spam is for people to use inbox relays that filter spam.
Clients then should read replies by default only from people's advertised relays.
Finally, if you see reply spam in someone else's thread it should be clear whose fault that is, so that person will be ashamed and fix it.

Are you sure it is slow? I had the impression that the mobile app had become somewhat slow for a while too, but I think they fixed a lot of things, I began to use it more lately (before the latest release, which I haven't downloaded yet as it has the word "AI" too many times in the announcement) and it's not slow at all (I use a very old Android phone).

I think it is a very reasonable flow for an introductory client to generate an nsec locally for the user and store it locally.
Then, later, if the user wants to try other apps, that client acts as a NIP-55 or NIP-46 local provider for that user or to setup a #pomegranate bunker for the user with some trusted operators and let the user control that from inside the same client.

Maybe the entire "don't put nsecs in apps" is kind of a moot point. If the app developer takes basic precautions and is not insane the odds of the key being stolen are pretty small.
The real risks are:
- web apps, as they come with a bunch of risks related to web and how it executes scripts from whatever sources in many circumstances.
- evil apps that will steal your key on purpose.
- physical access to the device.
- government-sponsored (or not) remote takeovers of your entire OS.
Amber/NIP-55 defends against the first two of these, but by the same account it should also be fine to use a trustworthy native app like Wisp.

I don't know if the chance is equal, maybe if the signer app is very small and does only one thing and is very hardened and doesn't change all the time that does lower its chances of having an exploit, but in any difference isn't that big, so I wouldn't sell that as a silver bullet.
What makes more sense to me is the idea of having your key in one app, you confine your trust to that one only, and use it to sign events from a bunch of different single-purpose apps, which is my ideal for Nostr (and the opposite of Amethyst's ideal, which is to have inside itself all functionality of any app ever dreamt by a human).
Since Wisp is already positioned as the keeper of people's keys, it would make sense to allow people to host a bunker or a NIP-55 signer in it, in case they wanted to use other apps while leaving their keys inside Wisp.

I hate JavaScript more than the average JavaScript hater, but I don't think PHP is better. The problem is probably that it is just too popular, anything that gets too popular becomes a mess.
I also sympathize with the people who prefer to create the HTML on the server and then do only HTMX-style stuff in the browser, but if it weren't for arbitrary JavaScript-powered SPAs Nostr would be much worse (as I say that I'd like to make it clear that I still hope one day all Nostr clients will be native software running outside the control of any DNS domain owner, see also #naddr1qq…zcak).
With regards to CSS my latest conclusion is that it is an academic exercise that didn't hold up well in the real world, and stuff like Tailwind that move the styling rules close to the location, as weird as they may look at first, are a much better approach for human sanity.

The problem is that all clients present Nostr as a thing with people inside, a "community" of sorts (a community of right-wing raw-meat-eater Bitcoiner assholes, or something like that), but Nostr isn't that, Nostr is the possibility, not the concretude.

Some new #nak features since the last time I mentioned new features:
- nak git ls [subdir]: lists files in remote repositories (without cloning).
- nak git cat <path>: prints a file content (idem).
- nak git history: lists commits for a remote repository (idem).
- nak git pr: opens new NIP-34 pull requests or browses open pull requests.
- nak serve: supports --auth flag for requiring a useless AUTH from everybody (any pubkey will be accepted, it's just for testing stuff) .
- nak req/fetch/event commands support a --jq flag that can be used for very crazy oneliners in computers that don't have jq installed (scripts run inside --jq can access a bunch of special helper functions for reading tags, parsing dates etc).
- nak admin: supports NIP-43 roles.
- nak publish: works better, can read from stdin, supports kind:1111 comments.
- nak group: support NIP-29 subgroups.
- nak group chat: streams chat with parsed nostr:... entities turned into usernames, other links and hashtags colored differently.
- nak bunker: always display bunker information at the bottom, courtesy of @npub1u03…njfd.
- nak fetch and nak group: support NIP-AD web addresses (NIP-05 of things).
- dozens of fixes from @npub1937…haj6.
- no more hardcoded key "01" for everybody, now each computer gets a supposedly unique key based on some CPU number (do not use this as your real key, it's only for testing)(it can be bypassed with the $NOSTR_SECRET_KEY environment variable, as always).

Why hard to believe? This should have been immediately obvious. This is the case for a huge number of Bitcoin projects.
Maybe people tend to think that a "service" that is running a server automatically makes it so a project is a for-profit soulless business, but having a server as a requirement doesn't make it less of a passion project than an open-source broken wallet. In fact it makes it require more passion, as it adds costs and responsibility. If you're holding people's coins then it's much harder and stressful and requires even more passion.
Sometimes Bitcoin passion projects get too successful, that's when they can get corrupted. Of course some are already born corrupted, but these are not the rule.

The framing here is very wrong: things can get much worse and not get better for decades, centuries, so it doesn't make sense to claim they will get better at all if all you see is a downward trend.
This slogan is repeated too often, and gives people false hopes and make them apathic, thinking that they should just wait and "survive" while things go through a bad period and then get better. That isn't the attitude we need from the people who know what is going on. We need them to do _something_, not only try to egoistically survive.
Likewise, things _can_ get a lot better without having to get worse. It makes no sense to claim otherwise. This is just doomerism wrapped in a disguise of false prophecy.

And for all the apps that don't support it you can still just copy-paste the bunker URI.

People can still comment on anything, and anyone who wants to read that can still read, and Nostr still ensures that followers of the commenter never lose access to him.
What you want is a system in which anyone can force their stuff into someone else's face who clearly doesn't want to see that, but that isn't a good thing.

There must be some kind of whitelisting previous to the banning, indeed, otherwise banning doesn't work.

The solution is to create a relay: "thebanned.com", then monitor who gets banned by who on inbox relays that do this type of stuff and get comments that are banned and put then there.
Now people can go on thebanned.com and see a stream of comments that are too edgy to be accepted, or whatever.
You could even have it as a default on the Darkest Wisp app and others, so people can see them, perhaps even highlight the comments that come from thebanned.com and always show them at the top.
Oh, wait, call it "communitynotes.com" instead.
