Last Notes npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Yes, I agree completely. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf This is highly illegal, but I'm happy they finally did it and now StarCraft can finally be eternal. @npub1t6j…ksrw npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf That would be a big loss for Nostr. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I've seen some examples of some illiterate Brazilians that said they never use the internet, they only use WhatsApp and Facebook. I think this proves @npub18am…p424's point once and for all. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf There are these basic ideas that I see repeated all the time, like "owning your data", that for some reason most people who comment on these protocols and technology topics have. These people almost always come up with an understanding of Nostr that involves a "platform" or "app" and then users "own their data" and can "migrate" so they're not "locked". I have no idea why so many people, including many people who actually support Nostr, have this weird understanding, it's like hardwired in their brains maybe, because these are exactly the same ideas that led to the creation of ATProto and Mastodon and many other dead protocols in the past. In ATProto and in Mastodon the user really has an "account" in a "platform" and relies on that platform for everything. In Mastodon, though, the user is just stuck there forever. The great innovation of ATProto was making it so the user could do that and still "own their data" and "migrate" to another platform (of course they didn't really fix decentralized identities, just moved the problem to another platform that they control and controls everybody's identities, but that is besides the point). Considering that people just see Nostr, read that it is a "decentralized protocol" and immediately assume it is some variant of the scheme above, the comparison with ATProto and Mastodon is of course necessary. But of course Nostr is not in that paradigm at all, it's a completely different thing. What would take them to understand? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Destroy humanity? Why would they do that if they can spam Nostr instead? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I didn't even know I could have multiple spellbooks in my instance at the same time. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Too late, I'm already using it. It's so massive, pretty good. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I just realized I used the word "spellbook", but I was thinking more of just getting whatever was in your screen at any given time. I don't know if it's worth publishing random interfaces as spellbooks, they sound too official, most people won't publish, and even those that publish will first curate something before publishing. I was looking for something less serious, like a URL you shared and I just clicked Maybe I'm not making much sense. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf On X if you mention someone and that person change their name afterwards the link breaks. If someone else starts using the previous name all the old links now happily target this new account. On Nostr we don't have that issue. Does anyone care? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Yes, you can do it here: https://pomadmin.yakihonne.com/ This Mill thing looks useful, although it looks like slop and that makes me want to discard it immediately. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Well, not a file. A string they can copy-paste would be better, and they can share in any way they want, I would never suggest email to anyone for anything. But maybe I don't understand how it works. What encryption? You mean encrypting their part of the key in transport so it gets to them without anyone seeing? Also what are these assurances that Nostr provides? Nostr doesn't provide any assurances. Or are you telling me that these things that people are supposed to store for decades will just live forever in a relay that will die next month? If all Nostr is providing is a peer-to-peer transport then I definitely do not see the benefit. Nostr could be one possible transport but why would I have to login with an nsec before I've done anything? But I was actually hoping I would just get some strings from the app and share them on Signal (just kidding, I would never trust the CIA with my strings), maybe a QR code that some stewards that are in the same room can scan from their own apps. I was also trying to justify the Nostr to myself by the fact that it provides this bring-your-own server mechanics that allow Horcrux to work even if you die, but no, I still got to see a horcrux server URL at some point in the setup. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf No, what is his npub? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf @npub107j…ncxg is there a way for me to open @npub1era…skz0 and get your spellbooks instead of having to build mine from scratch? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf That means you're registered, congratulations! npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf @npub1jlr…ynqn was probably right when he said this was a 10-year project. Are we already at the 6th year? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf What do you mean "you may have found"? I had linked to this same repository in my note earlier in this thread. Yes, it is correct that your keys can be stolen by compromised operators. This is all written in the README. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf It can be anything, the client decides the threshold at the time it is generating the key. To rotate for now for you have to go there on the admin and reset it manually. At some point I'll finish the DKG implementation so not even the first client the person uses has to see any keys. That would also be good in case someone wants to do something like an X bridge with a key that the rightful owner can later claim, for example (as long as the operators involved in creating the key attest that the key was generated fairly), but this is a different topic. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf What is wrong with the current implementations? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf You can read about it on the README of that repository. https://pomadmin.yakihonne.com and https://pomegranate-admin.fiatjaf.com are other instances of that website, but there is nothing there to read. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf In the realm of possibiliies, no. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf It doesn't seem to be connecting to the correct relays for each person. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf There was Keycast that was made for this specific use case, but you had to run it on a web-accessible server. Is that asking too much? I think it was repurposed now into a custodial key service for Divine users (because no one was interested in the original product). But if you want to delegate simply running `nak bunker` should work, no? If you don't want to run it yourself but also don't want to handle your key to a third party then the best solution is a FROST bunker. We have that infrastructure running and you can plug your own parts of the stack or reuse the public services as you wish (would be nice to get more public operators though). The only limitation is that profiles are tied to Google accounts for now, but that can change if there is demand, as I just wrote somewhere else. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Eventually I'll implement a FROST bunker that doesn't rely on Google. In theory it would work with any other form of login, raw email or even just a bunker-specific password, but nothing is easier and lower hanging fruit than Google. I'm not saying these other messaging protocols are good enough, I just wish there was something that was and could be integrated with Nostr, but since there isn't we're forced to roll our own. I mean Jumble and Coop use this: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/per-device-keys/4e.md npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf No, definitely not that. I just linked above. Here again: #nevent1q…eta2 npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf The NIPs look good and I like the use case, finally someone seems to be doing this right. The problem that remains is how to properly source this content. The only thing that comes to my mind is, as you seem to be doing, to fetch from a specific relay. Content from people you follow could be automatically added, sourced from the their outbox relays. The next and probably hardest part is opening it up for other relays. Perhaps letting the user pick manually (which requires some common knowledge of what relays are good for this type of thing to develop tacitly) or autosuggesting based on some NIP-51 "lists of relays that have good place review content" from the current user and friends, and maybe from other people who are in a "list of people who publish and repost good place reviews". npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf FROST bunkers are the only solution. They are a thousand times better than any solution implemented by any of Nostr's competitors, in any aspect. They fix everything and anything while also being compatible with all the other solutions and ways of signing. They are implemented and functional as of today. #naddr1qv…sfkc npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf It does solve the spam issue and I like it. But only as long as the restriction is implemented on your inbox relay layer (or in this case in the relay that is hosting the livestream chat). How does it work in LFL? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Yes, but for many of these people network effect is much harder to overcome than for small communities. This translates somewhat into the problem of the current "main topic" of Nostr (which is Nostr itself and Bitcoin and related themes). npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Have you seen #naddr1qv…sfkc? It's implemented now in Jumble, Yakihonne, Imwald, Hallway, https://github.com/fiatjaf/window.nostr.js, Nostrord and other places. In my experience it works well enough to be used by anyone and solves every concern under the sun. The only problem that remains is how to do NIP-17 DMs with it, but the Jumble/Coop approach of having a special key only for DM encryption that doesn't go on the bunker seems to be a good enough compromise. I think it's being implemented in Nostrord too now. DMs are really a very hard issue I wish we didn't have to do (ideally people should just use other protocols, like Simplex or Delta). npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Before anyone brings up that using relays for anything is "Mastodon with extra steps" let me just say that Mastodon (or Fediverse, if you prefer) is also made for the "public square" use case (although it isn't good for that) and doesn't really work for small communities except in a very clunky and broken way. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf What is LFL? @npub1utx…50e8 here's another thing for you to implement in your inbox relay. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf We can't un-normie all the normies, that's a big problem. Maybe that's the problem your anti-tech ideologues should be trying to explain, @npub1jlr…ynqn. If people weren't so normie they wouldn't fall for all the obvious traps that you think are inherent to technology. But I think we can un-normie a big portion of people who are normies currently, if only developers eliminated the condescending normie virus from their own minds and started treating users as the intelligent human beings that some of them are. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf What is a small community? Could be many things. In my mind I always think of the group chat with rules and visibility enforced by a temporarily trusted relay (the NIP-29 approach); or having one or more restricted relays be used for different purposes in a microblogging client that surfaces these purposes and these relays to the user (the Pyramid + Hallway approach); or it could be simply relays-as-groups with an interface that focuses on one single relay (the Flotilla approach). npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf No one has answered the second question in this note, but still I've learned a lot from the answers. Thank you. The main lesson, which I should have known if I had paid attention to the world, is that most people don't want to talk in a "public square" or about abstract topics to strangers on the internet. This leaves us with a clear path to adoption, which is also not a new discovery, but still worth repeating: small communities. The original vision of Nostr wasn't really this one, and it's not that exciting as becoming the public square of the internet, and most people will still not be interested in small Nostr communities at first, no matter how great they are, but still I think it's still one approach very underexplored. The good news is that Nostr is well positioned to deliver on it. Much more than any other Twitter clone out there, by the way, because we have relays with arbitrary rules and we don't worship an idealized fully flat global state paradigm. #nevent1q…hyp7 npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf https://inbox.relays.land/ is working now, but you have to manually register on the website. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Why haven't you invited your friends and family to Nostr? I'm not saying you should do that at all, just curious about the reasons. Especially if you think there is possibly anything that we could do in order for you to do that. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I used to love bus travel because it was just pay and enter the bus, no KYC, no bureaucratic bullshit. But it's been a while since I have traveled by bus. I imagine it's complete garbage now, like air travel. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Do you prefer bus travel? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf @npub107j…ncxg one thing that I think would be better on @npub1era…skz0 is that I use the /run endpoint to share a thing, people open that and they only see that page. It doesn't connect to the rest of their Grimoire experience. It could be a nice starting point. You click on a Grimoire link here and there, soon you have a dashboard with all those links. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf @npub16zs…92l7 I was testing https://horcruxbackup.com/ and couldn't stop thinking that Nostr is killing the product. I can't imagine Nostr playing any important part in it, why don't you remove it? Just create some keys locally and let people share keys by any means they want. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Vibe: kids don't spec. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf @npub1utx…50e8 wot-relay needs a way to manually ban bots that surreptitiously infiltrate the WoT. Reacting to a kind:1984 report event by the owner is probably the best way. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf This day will be remembered for many centuries as the day in which Nostr reached its bottom and started to climb up after its last final flaw was finally eliminated. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I just realized there is no fading out of older notes. I think you should stop showing the sats as the score (or maybe show then only as a secondary stat), and show a custom score instead. Then compute that score taking in consideration the time when the sats were added. Sats added more recently have weight more and sats added in the past weight less. This is so that the rank can rotate more and old notes that haven't been promoted for a while can fade away and leave room for newly promoted notes. Otherwise we'll reach a point in which someone will pay a big sum and no one will ever be able to take it out of the first place and the entire thing will lose its appeal. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Just happened again with another note. This one: #nevent1q…jdlx npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Added wss://relay.holoboard.space as a default feed on https://hallway0.netlify.app. https://nostr.download/531587cef01afc6b66326f12634cc80521b7acb8dc2ed96476d63d4b8c6b17c2.png #nevent1q…7c3g npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I tried to promote a note from the website but got this error: "could not find that note on any relay this board watches" It was an nevent1 code with author and relay hints. fiatjaf.com/nostr/sdk has functions that would have found it in one line (since you're already using that library). npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Are you saying that Cashu did something bad but no one knows? Not even the scams make sense to me anymore. I basically never look at them. Maybe secp256k1 signatures and WebSockets are technology, JavaScript is technology, each individual app is technology, but Nostr is just an arrangement of technologies around an idealistic vision or something like that. I don't know for sure what Nostr is in your scheme, but it can't be technology. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Remember this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA-jiiepOrE npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf https://lnvps.com/ https://nostr.download/316c41c3868d7941401ba55b50f7071c06553cb17c5661b6c00687b0a24c6cae.png npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf A domain is not a hard requirement, but if you don't have one then people in web clients won't be able to connect. IP by itself would work in a native client, I think, but who gets a static IP on their homes? And even then how do they expose their relay server through their home router? Some people can do it, but people have tried to run Lightning nodes on raspberry pis for years and as far as I know the best solution they found was to use Tor, which is so weird as a solution I don't see what they're thinking. I don't see how Tailscale fixes anything unless you have a server with a reverse proxy in front, in which case you should just run the relay in that server. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf https://hosting.coracle.social/ npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf The problem with this is the fact that relays need domain names and have to be accessed from the external internet. I guess you could have a "relay" that is just your personal backup thing or something like that. There is value in this, but only for power users, and not that much even, I think. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wu4_zVxmufY npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Now you're talking about some special niche browsers or future world, but you've implemented WebMCP today, so supposedly it works today. That's the part I'm not getting: how do I use it today? I've enabled the WebMCP experimental flag whatever on Chrome and opened Grimoire, but didn't see anything. How do I control my Grimoire with WebMCP? If the answer is to open Claude Code or whatever and ask it to control Grimoire then that makes no sense me, as that would be Claude Code's Grimoire, not mine. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf @npub107j…ncxg why does "req -p $ME -k 1 -k 1111 -k 1244" in @npub1era…skz0 connect to wss://relay.primal.net if that is not in my inbox list? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf It would be nice if they updated or took down old and invalid spec pages. So you're saying WebMCP is just a thing for the agent itself to open, in his own browser or headless browser or whatever? The agent loads the page and does its thing, closes the page? That's indeed a completely different thing and very uninteresting to me. But the examples in https://github.com/webmachinelearning/webmcp describe functionality very similar to IPA: the person is on the page and the person asks the AI to do stuff on the page. Am I misreading it? What I really don't get is where will the person ask the AI, if there is no browser extension and no chatbox in the webpage itself. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Is WebMCP similar to @npub1vp8…npsw's IPA? Their https://webmcp.dev/ doesn't make a lot of sense, it is saying that you need Claude Desktop and configure some confusing thing just to modify a webpage, but how would Claude Desktop get access to the browser anyway? The webpage also doesn't mention any browser extensions, but I see that some shady-looking extension is available. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf It is the same thing. People don't have to own and fully control a relay, they just need to have a contract with an existing relay that will offer some services. One of these services could be to allow them to delete some notes under some conditions. Conditions may vary. Relays may offer this service or not, it's all a free market. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf It would help if people stopped talking about Nostr as a single place. Nostr is many places. #nevent1q…ag62 npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf This is the kind of thing that I always thought should exist and does the job better than NIP-66 overcomplication. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf The non-Bitcoin crypto stuff harms Nostr as much as the Bitcoin stuff, don't you think? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Can you say one thing about why it sucks? I'm just curious. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Why are you tagging me out of all people? This is so weird. I'm the least "Bitcoin maximalist" type in here. My client doesn't even have zaps or any "wallet" functionality. Do you have any concrete suggestions for what could be done to attract Nitter users and related people? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf The fact that people like the fake Gaza guy bot or some others I won't name are still showing up basically everywhere is proof that no lesson was learned from all these years of spam, claims that "WoT fixes this", excessive muting and that any basement kid that wanted to actually break the Nostr experience for everybody would be able to do it easily. But I still have hope the tide will turn. #nevent1q…tq5e npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf What are blossom torrents? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Do you allow anyone to enter your house and shit on the floor? I don't get why you're so against people deleting notes from relays they control. That doesn't hurt any of the Nostr ideals. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Someone has suggested something like this before: create bridged accounts that later can be turned over to the person if they prove they are who they are. Sounds like a good idea. We can actually do it using FROST decentralized key generation. Probably can't be fully automated though, since Instagram is such a dystopia. Maybe we can start with some other source platform? Still it would require some work to select and talk to the targets. And someone trustworthy enough for handling the temporary control of the accounts and taking the flak from the the bridged people who will hate everything. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf No. It's just that it started working correctly. Before it had a bug and was adding any note with more than 2 likes to the feed, now it requires the actual percentage you have specified (the default is like 10 or 15%, which means a note needs 20 likes or replies to be included). I've reduced wss://pyramid.fiatjaf.com/popular to 1%. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Censorship here, someone do something! npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Regardless of whether anyone will use it it has to be tried anyway. It's our duty. Instead of attaching cashu whatever I think it's better to just allow people to buy "credits" first, then use those slowly when publishing. There are many interesting variants of this idea that I have been planning to work on but couldn't get to them yet. Would be nice if someone else tried. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Internet search is getting very bad. This is not even the classic comment about how Google Search has become worse. I think it's just that the internet is much bigger now and the "global view" paradigm is not helping. One issue I'm hitting all the time now: I know a thing exists, I know its name, but search engines can't find it because there are way too many things with that same name showing up first. Sometimes it's not a lot of things, it's just one thing, but that thing has hundreds of webpages, videos, news articles associated with it and they all show up first. Maybe they don't even show up first, maybe they're not even more popular (ignore the fact that popularity being a criteria is already fundamentally broken) than the thing I searched for, but just by their massive number they come mixed with the results I actually care about and still clutter everything. Giving more context in the search doesn't work as it gets ignored always, and maybe this is the part that could be improved. By the way: AI isn't fixing it because AI still relies on classic search engines. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf It's just a question of confused priorities. Google should be low on people's lists of hate. There are way too many worse things, and indeed Google has done a lot of good and relatively good things. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Let me say it clearly: The only way to fix reply spam is for people to use inbox relays that filter spam. Clients then should read replies by default only from people's advertised relays. Finally, if you see reply spam in someone else's thread it should be clear whose fault that is, so that person will be ashamed and fix it. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Some interesting relays would have to exist first. But for them to be interesting we would need some people to use them in interesting ways, or at least read them in the way they were intended. I guess Yakihonne could at least manually curate and highlight the few non-commoditized relays that exist today, such as @npub1r0d…fsft's wss://livestream.livelier.live. @npub14ya…sn39 please fix. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Are you sure it is slow? I had the impression that the mobile app had become somewhat slow for a while too, but I think they fixed a lot of things, I began to use it more lately (before the latest release, which I haven't downloaded yet as it has the word "AI" too many times in the announcement) and it's not slow at all (I use a very old Android phone). npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf How weird must be these people who run their own niche servers just in order to stream? Do they have more than 5 viewers? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf The Nostrord NIP-29 group #naddr1qq…u5rm has been taken over by Brazilians who are now freely talking in Portuguese about unrelated nonsense topics. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf https://dfos.com/ has just killed Nostr. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf Let the market decide your gender. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf So I just learned that most of the AI spam bot replyguys we see often are featured in https://npub.world/. At the same time genuine new people like @npub1gcj…c4qs are ignored by default clients' WoT filters and even when they break into they still fail to get any reach whatsoever anyway. What does that mean? npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf What are "settings"? Relays are not "settings". Do Nostr apps need a "settings" menu? Maybe a "preferences" menu where the user can change the color or whether pictures are squares or circles, but not "settings". npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I'm sorry about that. I know I made mistakes and defended some contradictory things, but it was all with the goal of making a protocol that can last. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf If you want to defend against the other two attacks (and also gain the flexibility of being able to use the same identity in multiple devices or even in a server context) the only solution is a NIP-46 bunker. And a FROST bunker like #pomegranate is the only way I know that 95% of the population can do it without becoming chronically headached: #nevent1q…yfw0 npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I don't think there was ever a vulnerability in a Bitcoin wallet that allowed a remote attacker to steal a key directly. Maybe the entire "don't put nsecs in apps" is kind of a moot point. If the app developer takes basic precautions and is not insane the odds of the key being stolen are pretty small. The real risks are: - web apps, as they come with a bunch of risks related to web and how it executes scripts from whatever sources in many circumstances. - evil apps that will steal your key on purpose. - physical access to the device. - government-sponsored (or not) remote takeovers of your entire OS. Amber/NIP-55 defends against the first two of these, but by the same account it should also be fine to use a trustworthy native app like Wisp. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf I can't understand this, but I applaud the effort. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf @npub1v0l…qj49 once told me this had to be built but I was mildly against it, I thought it was too low-level for a browser replacement. I've changed my mind (although I still think there is room for another type of browser with a different abstraction layer). I also remember reading Joey Hess proposing this as an idea at some point but can't find it again now. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf People claim native will never win because the "web" is great as a distribution platform, that it is very good to be able to send people to a URL and have your app loaded there in a sandbox without they having to install anything. Has anyone thought about making a new type of browser, one that doesn't primarily run legacy HTML/CSS/JS but just wasm files from a URL (or potentially from Blossom natively) and writes to the screen directly? Yes, some people have thought about that, but no one has done it yet. Please. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf We need a reputation system that allows us to tag people who don't deserve an answer because they will just throw questions at us and never acknowledge the response or continue the discussion. npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 fiatjaf If you think Nostr and Bitcoin will fail because "no one cares about decentralization!" congratulations, you have just learned what most of us knew 6 years ago. #nevent1q…juy8
