Actually thinking that prescription sports goggles are the right choice. Unfortunately when I called the optometrist they said "we know what you mean but don't carry that and don't know who does."
Would really prefer in person shops in Ottawa (for fitting) but I do use online shops for my regular glasses.

Does anyone have recommendations for sports goggles that fit over glasses? I don't really want to buy prescription goggles for what is likely a temporary thing.

My first day off, I fell sick. Like I was holding it in. Luckily I booked a bit of time in advance of our flights.

I just had a conversation with our AirBNB host (we're basically in a granny suite) about our electric car rental, way outside my comfort area in terms of subject matter, and he complemented my French before handing me a giant extension cord to charge up with.

At the very least it gives me confidence to go in with French first!
I'm a lot more confident than my wife (CCB, and she did French immersion) and am speaking French unless the other person offers English and it's a technical thing (for example, car rental, issue with our first hotel booking). She's also been pointing unilingual Francophones to me if she initiated the interaction, and I've been fine.
I get tripped up by some pronunciations. Words like "sucre" or "metre" are not pronounced how I would expect them to be.

They were motivated, if you did all 10 Canadian activities (I recognized most and overheard another Anglo Canadian from BC contesting the Canadianess game I grew up with in Ontario that she never played, so probably had a range of regions represented!) you got a free crepe.

Jumping in as one of my kids was diagnosed with dyslexia this year. Because he's in French immersion we had A LOT of questions about the intersection of second language learning and dyslexia.
The psychologist who did the testing was very clear that a lot of the strategies that work in one language will work in the other (obviously not those related to orthography, but other techniques and skills!). He strongly discouraged us from moving out kid to a unilingual stream. Essentially, French will follow once his English improves.
Basically, if you can adapt in one language, you'll maybe not be "fine" but will often be able to adapt in another, just with more effort than others and the same type of accommodations.

Went for a run at lunch today, planning to go slow and steady... Apparently I only have once pace. Felt great though, so I was out longer than initially planned (5k instead of 3k, at the 1.5k point I was not ready to stop). Skipping soccer though. Straight lines is one thing, and soccer is something else.
One thing I like about #running is the little half wave people give to each other when you pass. Camaraderie of the trail.

My wife is taking in-house french training at her work for people aiming at their C's and, wow, the advice she is getting is so different than what my tutors were giving me.
Basically I was told "express your own self and try to speak naturally" and my sessions where wide ranging conversations where the tutors corrected my grammar and pronunciation.
She's being given specific formulas and almost magic words that she should memorize and regurgitate.
Her baseline is also much higher than mine (French immersion vs small town Ontario English), so maybe some of it is that, but I don't know. Maybe I got lucky and had someone who wanted me to actually be bilingual where hers wants to tick a box on how many people can pass the test.

So I definitely didn't hurt myself as badly as 2023. Walking unaided and even just biked around the block (after dewinterizing my bike...sorry for any freak snow storm 😁).
As with 2023, mounting/dismounting was the hardest part. ("Walk your bike" signs are accessibility fails.)
I mentioned I might be able to do a short run tomorrow and my wife responded "don't you 🤬 dare." (She is correct, it'd be a bad call!)

The draw mechanic is interesting! It's sort of like games where you get a number of casts per spell, but you need to find them. Also augmenting stats, so there's a balance between using magic and your stats.
I think I just need less "sighs" and "whatevers" I think 😅 I have 3 weeks so I'll keep playing.
(And it's not like Van or Tidus don't have the same characteristics...they're just less defining, at least so far!)

I got FFVIII from the library and while I have vague memories of the introduction (from when I was borrowing a PS2 15ish years ago after getting my wisdom teeth out), I think Squall's teenager-ness is why I swapped to X and XII instead (I did try IX but the disc was scratched so I couldn't get far).
