"strict linguistic terms" is not the problem, and sounds like a refusal to define words or an excuse to be sloppy with definition.
how do you say what you mean, if you don't know the definition of what you're saying and don't care either? i call that speaking in bad faith, which is what fascists love to do.
do you see "potential for solidarity" in using oppressive language? why not just say whatever racist shit you feel like and then excuse yourself by saying "oh that's not really what i meant, you see"? who are you building solidarity with when you do that?
"people will shut down if you tell then they're wrong" is defeatist nonsense, and also counter-revolutionary language. what is the point of education but to lead people toward changing their own mind?

there is nothing revolutionary about fascism. its role is to magnify and strengthen the status quo, to the point that nothing and no one else remains.
social democrats have often co-opted the language of socialism and revolution for the purpose of undermining it. that is literally what the Bolsheviks did to gain power. the Sozialistische-Demokratische Parties Deutschland (SPD) fought for nazis to march in Berlin with police support.

i don't really see power tools and construction equipment as automation. they are electrical, air- or fuel-powered versions of tools which already existed for centuries or millenia. these tools do not do the work without human being in direct control. the Jacquard loom is really the closest thing to a modern computer, and it's the very thing that caused the Luddites to form their movement, because it deskills workers and turns their labour into a commodity instead of the products of that labour.

automation has never been liberatory. the Luddites existed because they saw that it would lead to the destruction of cottage craft industry and send workers into waged factory labour. automation and enclosure of the commons led to city populations swelling, emptying and deskilling rural labour, and increasing pollution and the diseases that come with it.
in USA, the cotton gin did not liberate enslaved Black workers. it dispossessed them and sent them north where factory bosses then wouldn't hire them and the mine bosses would only hire them to use them as scabs to increase racism between white and Black workers. that's why ghettos exist.

i think no one is wrong to distrust psychology and psychiatry. read about their history, especially their role in colonialism, slavery, and eugenics. these people might have different reasons for their distrust, but it is by no means wrong to distrust either. i can't say a lot about psychology, but psychiatry is absolutely an ableist pseudo-science made for murdering people who can't pass an IQ test, tries to escape enslavement, or has the wrong shape of skull. an IQ test is a white person test.
it is really harmful to diagnose anyone with a psychiatric condition if you are not a licensed psychiatrist. i often say it's no different from diagnosing cancer without being an oncologist, or doing dental work without being a dentist.
that's why i say "choose different words".
there is also a whole online culture of making memes about "narcissists" which often identify autistic traits, so it's extremely stagmatising not just for people with an actual Narcissist Personality Disorder (NPD) diagnosis, but also harmful to autistic people.
the thing i know people are trying to indentify with these harmful memes is abuse, so "abuse" or "manipulative" are words i use to describe people who are manipulative and abusive.

it's not a message board problem, it's a white supremacy problem. listen to what Black people say about how white people behave when they're full of hate. it doesn't matter what the facts are to them, they'll whip each other into a frenzy and go berzerk. that's what happened to Tulsa, OK. that's how lynchings happened.

you'll also get people fired for taking the day off to protest without organising anything. the fact that many bosses supported this one-day strike is far from the norm. if it had been about wages, hours, and working conditions, you can bet they would have fired people or locked them out. calling in sick on your own is not a strike. if you want to call in sick, organise a sick-in, which is another kind of organised direct action where many workers co-ordinate calling in sick on the same day or days.

it's extra fun to notice this about old Dr. Who episodes. so much stuff on the TARDIS console is clearly stuff bought from the hardware store and painted funny colours. in one episode, the Doctor encounters people who are clearly wearing a bucket on their heads as part of a uniform. the Daleks have an egg beater and a plunger as deadly weapons.

it's a desktop environment (DE). it's the K DE. nearly every program made with its development kit has a name that starts with k. why? idk.
you can't change it in Windows, so it might be a very unfamiliar idea. it's what sets up your desktop with a task bar, window decorations, system tray, etc that you expect to see, but you can change it in any way you like, and even change DE to a different program if you like. KDE is "recommended for beginners" but it's really memory-heavy for no good reason, and other DEs exist which do the same things just as well in far less resources. Gnome is the other most popular DE for linux. i prefer Cinnamon, or MATE, both of which are forks of Gnome 2, which preserves that Win95 feel instead of the modern "locked down af, rounded corners on everything" feel of Gnome 3.

if you would have been alone, as in didn't know anyone there, you may be best off staying at home.
i often miss marches and protests, but i tell myself "the whole thing does not and will not hinge on my individual presence, and if it ever does, i'm in the wrong movement."
it's really not a good idea to fight fascists alone, if you can avoid it. when the whole thing is over, one of the most dangerous times is when everyone is going home. always make sure to have friends or some kind of safety escort, to go home with you. they will attack you when you are alone, and it did happen to people i knew in 2017, in Ottawa.

did they really fold? good riddance, if so. we never needed a city hall-funded central committee. May Day is a good example of how to get anything done, if a march is what anyone wants. the various groups organising did their best work when they didn't tell the city and cops about anything.

who is going to organise this supposedly new "global diplomacy" thing, and how is it different from the problems and absolute failures of the UN to meet its own mission?
if the world is ever going to be a better place to exist than it is now, it's going to take a lot more than feeling clever and writing long thinkpieces. if you can't do it now, and the idea must take place at some indefinite point in the future, to be carried out by Someone Else, then the idea has no hope for survival and is built on the purest ignorance of reality and history.
without abolition of class, white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism, the idea of a "global diplomacy" body is an erasure of what we already see happening right in front of us, every damn day for nearly two years, nevermind the fascist plot of 1948 which made it all possible and all of the heinous violence that entailed. with abolition, a "global diplomacy" body is unnecessary and a waste of everyone's time, because its goals will have already been accomplished by other means.
