I think its important to remember when talking about escalating sentences in dystopias is that sentences incur human labour costs, until they automate prisons there is a hard limit to how many they can build bc there is a hard limit to how many guards they can hire. hypothetically you could "forget your password" or "lose your security key" but its not as if encryption is pointless even under these scenarios it massively raises the cost in police and court time and funding to read encrypted data if its all encrypted. Especially if the accused know their rights. But it does show that its not enough on its own to achieve total liberation

In the uk we have something called snoopers charter, ISPs have to store your last couple months of internet history. I expect the overreach here to get worse and worse with technical feasibility. https://briarproject.org has had that feature for years now, and it defaults to tor connections when its sending messages in internet mode. I never got to really try out the bluetooth mesh networking thing bc didnt have enough friends with the app to try it, but as a basic messenger it was pretty good my main complaint was you only get one invite address which is essentially just an onion address, and its not clear how to migrate contacts or chatlog

I want to move away from simplex because its owned by fascists, but afaik its the only decentralised messenger to use post quantum encryption, if you can add that and the extreme anonymity simplex affords with unique ids/addresses for every group and dm u join then you will be a serious contender for the most private and anonymous and robust messenger, with the added benefit of not being owned by fascists like simplex (I would hope at least)
