Part of the reasons I love old books is that they are really imagination-stimulating.
Last night, I read about how snake butchers used to catch snakes in parts of Egypt, the whole process of killing them, then pickling different parts of the snakes and even making soup from them, etc. It gives me chills to read about it (it must be really scary to be there!), but it's also fascinating to learn how people used to use different parts of the snake to cure different illnesses.

Yesterday I was having food with friends at around 4pm, the place was half full. I mean, they really know how to run their business!
Here comes the interesting part: there isn't any marketing for them, no websites, no social media. Only locals keep coming because the food is simply delicious, and word of mouth compounds over time.
Even better part: No QR menu, the menu is written on the walls. No iPad ordering or any written notes about what you ordered, you just tell them what you ate when pay.
I love old-style places like this.

Walking around antique markets is a great way to learn more about the past, and it also trains my eye for quality, soulfulness, and craftsmanship.
I don't know if you have ever noticed how many poisons are around us these days: plastic water bottles, plastic bags, polyester clothes, skincare with toxic chemicals, non-stick cookware, ads all over the screens...
If one lives around poisons, one might think it's normal, but it's NOT. Never in human history has one been surrounded by this amount of poison, not only to the body, but also to the mind.

I started around Feb this year, I did hand sewing first, then bought a sewing machine. Here are some of the basics i sumup in my notebook to make simple garments, hope it helps:)
- How to thread the sewing machine
- How to do straight stitch
- How to do French seam ( I French seam everything 😂 )
- How to hem it, both machine and by hand
I then learned how to make my own pattern last month, now I'm practicing pattern making directly on fabric, it's fun! A sewing community would be interesting, but maybe wait till more people showup? I only know maybe 4-5 people who mentioned sewing here.

I don't know how many of you would be interested in learning how to sew, I think this is one of the best life skills.
One good decision I made was learning how to draw my own pattern instead of keeping buying sewing patterns (the amount of extra work is tedious: buying, printing, gluing, cutting, that's before even touching the fabric).
The fiat model of teaching is so weird: they want you to keep paying, but good teachers want to actually teach so you can outgrow them, instead of holding back so you depend on them.

I'm also a hands-on learner, but there are many great tutorials online for learning how to sew, all you really need to do is learn how to thread the sewing machine (or hand sew) and do basic seams.
What I've learned is that sewing is actually maybe like 20% of the work in making a garment, and is the easier step! The whole process starts with choosing fabric, thinking about what to make/drawing a pattern, washing, ironing (lots!), cutting, then sewing.

This is the first summer I'm wearing the clothes that I sewed on my own, it's a beautiful feeling!
Linen, hemp, and cotton are good fabrics for the heat; silk is good for special occasions; I guess one of the best things about making your own clothes is that you can finally say goodbye to all the polyester.

I guess it's a good time to share another ancient secret: kese glove.
I don't know how many of you still have hammam or have ever tried it, but if you really want to deep-exfoliate your body naturally, a kese glove is the answer; it's almost like sandpaper peeling away your dead skin, your skin will be really smooth afterward (first steam your body for about 15-20 mins).
If you can find the Sefidab where you live, the white stone here (one of the best Persian secrets I've discovered), it works wonders together with the kese glove:)

Baby hem is a really small rolled hem, look it up, it's quite nice for dresses:)

Aleppo Soap
Originally from the city of Aleppo, Syria, as the name suggests:) Made with olive oil and laurel oil, it smells quite earthy.
I've been using Aleppo soap to wash my hair and body for years, it simply cleans without drying out my skin. It also won't easily become soggy or mushy and run out fast like most soaps, it still stays in good shape till the last bit. (I usually put a small piece of natural loofah under it.)
Give it a try if you want to say goodbye to SLS, artificial fragrances, and other harmful chemicals. 🫶🏼

There are only a few places left in Anatolia that still do the pirn winding by hand. Since it's quite labor intensive and time consuming, you might be wondering why people still doing it the hard way then when automatic machines are everywhere? 🤔
As a lover of handmade crafts myself, I once saw a skilled lady turn raw wool into yarn, and I was completely in awe. Then she wove a shawl with local motifs (with stories) on an old handloom, which I still use each winter! It keeps me so warm and reminds me of what our hands are capable of; This is part of reasons why we are building @npub1sgj…4lvg continuing centuries of knowledge and reminding people of what their hands can create.

Do you pay in cash when you are out and about? I often get discounts when paying cash because shop owners simply don't have to pay so many fees, so it's a win-win at the end of the day.

The constant struggle of buying something now or later is real if you are living in hyperinflation countries, because everything is going to be more "expensive" in the future, in fiat terms. I know many people are basically living on their credit cards to sustain their image.
Meanwhile, I like how saving in Bitcoin completely changes the way you spend; the last thing you want to buy is anything popular or whatever the latest invention is, and then it slowly leads you to appreciate the old-time beauties, the things that were made to last. ✨
One good example is when I was thinking about which sewing machine to buy; many influencers recommended the Singer heavy-duty as the one to go with, but that machine is practically made of plastic! I later ended up buying a vintage one, all made of cast iron, with beautiful floral decals; the best part: it still works wonderfully! And it doesn't make the annoying sound the modern sewing machines do, money well spent:)

Vinegar, baking soda, and lemons are my all-time go-to too! Then, tomato with salt for copper (learned this hack from a copper master).
About the soap: I did learn that soap was initially made with ash, then with animal fat, and later with olive oil.

I then searched online; the results were either hiring professionals or buying expensive cameras... Many people would even rent a place so to make sure they got perfect lighting, but I'm doing it in a more practical way.
I always believe that the best way to learn anything is to do it; All the product photos you are currently seeing on our website were taken on a beach, with natural lighting, using only my phone. 🤓 What do you think?
