Working hard today on finishing Trans Rescue's "How to get out" book.
It's a distillation of what we know, aimed at Brits and Americans.
It's been a huge amount of work over the last six months, the reason I have done no videos.

Please don't forget the ID card petition, it's inching towards 3 million signatures. I know they've said tbey'll do it anyway, but we've been here before under Blair. This will have the effect of kicking it into the long grass where it will be quietly abandoned.

I had someone tell me that Antifa were terrorists last night, in a European hackerspace. Because demonstrations can be violent.
Dunno who needs to hear this, but I grew up through the Troubles. I know what *real* terrorism is. It's not violent protests, by any means, even if they are unpleasant and you don't like them.
The inflation of that word to mean anything you don't like has to stop. Just hope and pray that you don't end up in a place that has real terrorism. You really don't want that.

Do we have any #AROS (Amiga style operatimg system) people here on Mastodon?
I want to do a Jenny's Daily Drivers on it, but am having huge problems getting a bootable ISO on a flash drive. I don't have a CD-ROM.
I can make the disk, but it' s not bootable. Normal linux ways to fix this don't work.
I'd like to review it, but this is a blocker.

I think I need to say this. The word "Drama" in the hackerspace community needs to get in the sea.
People dismiss the result of toxic behaviour as "Drama", and it allows the toxic behaviour to continue while usually the victim of the toxicity is blamed for the "Drama". How many times do you have to hear "Drama", before realising something is wrong?
If I hear that word being used in this way, you will hear me explaining this again in no uncertain terms.

Yesterday I was in Berlin, and made a trip to the Magnus Hirschfeld memorial. It's close to the site of the world's first gender identity clinic, raided by the Nazis in 1933. Not on most tourist itineraries.

As I understand it thwre's a German phrase which translates as an innoccuous sounding "I didn't know", which is illegal in Germany because of its association with Holocaust denial.
It's possible in the 1940s when media was tightly controlled, that there were people who didn't know. That is not the case today in an era of mass media and social media. They will always have known.
A lot of people may not survive Trump. If you survive, make sure they don't get away with saying "I didn't know".

I would like to try #Pixelfed.
But the pixelfed dot social server requires you not to post about anything illegal in the USA. So I can't.
Why? I'm a trans person. Trump has made it clear he's going to "put an end to trans ideology", which is likely to mean "Being trans on the Internet" becomes de facto illegal in the USA as the excuses to prosecute become very broad.
I'd try it if it had a European server. But right now it's problematic without one. Anyone know of an EU pixelfed server?

"SOMEBODY SAID SOMETHING ON THE INTERNET, so we DEMAND you address it, repeatedly!" is from the same drawer as TERFs endlessly demanding "DEBATE MEEEEE!" to rehash the same points.
It's appropriate to evaluate and call out bad stuff when you see it. But in there lies a responsibility to ensure that what you are claiming has a basis in fact, and your primary source isn't an abuser.
Otherwise you just become the abuser too.

It's a point worth making, if your're a European or other technology company looking to hire top American talent, Trump's election represents a golden opportunity.
A huge number of trans people are very anxious to leave the USA right now, and among them are a lot of people in the technology sector. They wouldn't normally be in the international jobs market, snap them up before someone else does.

Ok, a bit of good news from this year.
Dora Richter was one of the first trans women to receive gender reassignment surgery, in Berlin.
She was for years believed to have died in the Nazi raid on the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, the world's first gender clinic, because she disappeared afterwards
This year it was found that she got away from Berlin to her home village in what is now Czechia, survived the war and forced relocation to Germany, and died an old lady in the sixties.
