whereas I VERY MUCH preferred Hot Stove League because it was ACTUALLY about baseball, not merely named after the sport, as I strongly feel The Winning Try was. knowing #kDrama any S2 of #TheWinningTry will be exactly like the first season: 80% about corruption and mismanagement in a completely unrelated sport, 15% about that sport and 5% about Rugby.. If we got an S2 in which RUGBY was central in terms of plot and screentime, that would be awesome

Ah. Mention of a monthly theme made me think of an entire #kDrama, where the theme was significant. One episode of one Drama doesn't feel like part of a "recurring theme" to me.
I'd be more likely to include "Beyond the Bar" as part of a legal 'theme' given its near overlap with "Law and the City"
With the rise of pre-shot over live-shot, we're seeing less of this than formerly. Fewer "all vampires" "all doctors" "all judges" than in the days of yore.

I first saw her in #kDrama #SummerStrike and then seeing er play a COIMPLETELY different character in #TwinklingWatermelon blew me away. She was the only reason I endured that underwhelming overblown mess to the tedious end. #I'll be watching #LoveUntangled today

MDL lists "comedy" as one of the genres for 12 episode #kDrama #TheWinningTry - there are total of maybe 15 minutes of comedy in the first 11 episodes. Of course, having started nearly 500 #kDrama I know that wallowing in misery, pain and the triumph of evil IS considered fun in #kDrama

Does anyone have any recs for (at least relatively) simple ERD software for #database design? I'm planning to build a new version of my personal hobby db for tracking #jDrama #cDrama #kDrama etc and want to spend some time getting it clear in my head first. I have DBeaver Community, but its ERD option is an Eclipse plugin, which seems like using a freight train to crush a peanut.
I'm looking for something free/libre and local. Not a fan of cloud.

It would be really interesting to find out how it was received in the DPRK - the whole section of the Drama set there was eye-rollingly nonsensical from my POV, given what little I know of the place. Fun, but pure fantasy of a level that makes wuxiia/xianxia seem like dull documentary. How the blatant propaganda of that part of the Drama went down where it was set would be fascinating to know

Fanny was an early prototype of the passive-aggressive martyr and too "good to be true", and Aunt Norris was so noxious as to need having her quietus made. BUT all the characters were real and believable. For me, the sharpest and most acidic of Austen's works, but the rapier wit and incontestable correctness of her cynical observations delivered many genuine laughs. It's my 2nd favourite after the sublime Persuasion

"None of the above" I sideload ALL my books, but I do as I buy them. I buy them (almost all from Kobo), strip the DRM to make them truly mine, then sideload them. So if I buy 2 books, I'll be sideloading 2 books. If I buy 6, then 6, etc.

For those who read a lot, ereaders are anything but redundant. I read 454 books in 2022, ~230 last year and ~ 190 this year. Reading that much is VERY MUCH easier on e-ink devices. Kinder on the eyes, MUCH better battery life, and a single-purpose tool. Modern ereaders are very good for *reading*. No apps, no distractions, just reading. That EVERY major ereader maker is investing in new models shows they don't think them redundant

Kobo might be worth checking out. I switched from Kindle to Kobo 6 years ago because the Kobo walled garden is LESS walled. It offers more DRM free ebooks, does not ADD drm to books the author has stipulated should be DRM Free (which Kindle does), and Kobo devices read MANY more formats than Kindle readers. THAT requirement of yours is likely the trickiest, as Amazon/Kindle insists only its formats are best. Another option to check out may be Pocketbook

The meaning is also meteorologically accurate - as plenty of ISS photos attest 😀 "I'm not Māori, I'm a student of the Māori language. I'm from Aotearoa" - the accuracy of pronunciation in the attached mp3 is not for me to assert. 😱

#AmReading Bellos' "Is that a Fish in Your Ear?" and being reminded of my lowbrow tastes. In a passage about the impact of non-L1 poetry learned long ago, he cites Rilke's "Wer, wenn ich schriee, hörte mich denn aus der Engel Ordnungen?" - while I went straight to German too -Morgenstern's
"Es war einmal ein Lattenzaun, mit Zwischenraum, hindurchzuschaun" which I especially love for the 'punchline' at the end. 😀

Heretical view incoming:
I was introduced to the book in my late teens, JUST before the movie was released. Enjoyed the book enough to watch the movie, which I absolutely ADORED. Decades later came back to the book and after finishing it was left with the VERY, VERY strong impression that
THE MOVIE IS BETTER😱
(the only exception being the whole sequence of rescuing Wesley from the Pit of Despair - a real shame that couldn't have been in the film)
