First run since Sunday. The heat didn’t motivate me this week, but today I’m off, so I can take it easy afterwards. The heat and humidity was already quite high at 7:30. My lack of energy also didn’t help much. Love the shorts @npub1pwa…yw5r recommended (got them for fathers day too). They are a bit shorter than usual, so my white upper legs create extra reflection 😏

4 days at a music festival, I know I'm going to drink a couple of beers, exhaust myself and probably don't get enough rest and sleep. I've decided to stop being a Tamagotchi for a couple of days and leave my Garmin at home. HRV is going down for sure, let's try and not get too bothered with it 😏. Wearing my old school Casio G-Shock (which is tiny compared to my Enduro 3).

And with this view I did my last run of the year. A year where I ran 1414km, 25k less than last year. Earlier in the year I joined a running group for three months with mixed results. Got myself injured, but I did increase my overall fitness. I didn’t do any events, but did start with strength and fitness training. In total I spend more hours working out this year. All in all another great year of running. Can’t wait to continue in 2026 and get stronger!

I’ve been taking running seriously for exactly two years now. I run at least 3 times per week (the last few months usually 5x) and try to train with a goal in mind. Looking at the data from two years ago, there has been so much progress since then. Can’t wait to see how much further I can take it in the next year 💪.

I think this is going to have the same effect for screen readers as those social media posts where the poster replaced sans-serif fonts with what looks like serif fonts by utilising certain Unicode characters, which are then pronounced by screen readers as mathematical characters, for which they were originally used.
I also visually see a difference already.

Enjoying my audio gear a lot more since I moved it to my office (the room I’m in for the longest time every day anyway). Now using the random album feature of Plexamp and (re)discovering some of the albums I own.

I decided earlier this week not to run the half marathon this weekend. I feel kind of bummed out by it, but with the current state of my knee it’s irresponsible to do it. So instead I’ll be cheering on the 10k people running past my house 😅.

A relative short run through the park today (7k). Trying out my new pair of Brooks Hyperion Max 2 (in lovely blue, green, bright orange colors). They fit pretty good, no pain or blisters and they make me a little bit faster (maybe…? At least today…). I’m starting to collect more shoes than my girlfriend 🙈. Although some of them are nearing the end of their life. So always a good excuse to buy a new pair 😅.

During my run yesterday I felt a pain in my calf during an all-out sprint (after doing four similar sprints, up and down a hill). Enough pain that I couldn’t continue. Maybe I did too much in the last weeks. Right now it’s not painful luckily, but still a bit sensitive. I can feel it pulling a little bit when I jog. Doing some calf exercises at the moment, hoping this will solve the issue. I might only go for a very short run tomorrow 😕.

I got this single malt for my birthday today. I also had my second running group training today. Nice contrast 😏 (don’t worry, it takes years before this bottle is empty). The training was hard, but good. Too bad the other slow guy was off today. 🏃‍♂️💨

With my last run today I end 2024 with almost 1440 km on the clock! I must admit I’m very proud of the progress I made this year. 3 medals: two half marathons events (one was a trail run) and one ten mile event. 172 runs in total!
I remember people sharing their 2023 running stories. Thinking it would be cool to reach 1000 km this year. Well, I’m almost 45 and I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been 💪. Let’s continue this streak and get even better in 2025.

Tonight (after twenty years) I finally saw Gåte live. I’m not sure, but this must be the first time they were playing in the Netherlands. Great band, great show and super friendly! They deserved a lot more points at Eurovision this year 😏.

🤩 I’m very happy with my 5k PR: 24:30 that I ran at the local Parkrun today. My first 5k faster than 25 minutes. Finally, took me about a year. It was never my primary goal, but I’ve been chipping away at my 5k throughout the year. So I guess next up is below 24 minutes 😏.

Finally home from the Dam tot Dam loop. It has been four months since my last event, which didn’t go very well (I did finish, but not the best time). This time I was positive about my training and I think I succeeded. I read the organisation cancelled the last two groups due to the heat. It was warm at some points, but I found the Leiden Marathon a lot warmer. Anyway, happy with the negative split and a good finish time.
