Last Notes npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Yesterday's 'impossible' is today's weekend project thanks to AI. These tools are fucking great! npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi It feels good scrolling through Nostr. On X or Instagram, you can feel the algorithm feeding you whatever is most likely to keep your attention at that moment. On Nostr, you simply see the people you’ve chosen to follow. If everyone is talking about ColdCard, you’ll naturally see lots of ColdCard posts, but you’ll also see their unrelated thoughts, photos, jokes, and everything else they choose to share. On other social media, the algorithm tends to show you more of whatever is currently exciting or engaging you. On Nostr, people decide what you see, not an algorithm. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I doubt if anyone’s hitting buy on their products anymore. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I don’t dislike Adam. He has the best cryptographer’s onboard and I enjoy playing around with his Jade. I have made a Seed Signer too and it’s a great secure toy and playing with it is very rewarding. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi And yet nvk made fun of them by saying there’s no such thing as “virtual secure elements”. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi That would be so fucked up! How do we know that though? Did they make a reference to the emails? npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Now that this has come to light the story is different. But I’d say most of the signers he mocked were way more trustworthy and had better security models, such as Jade and SeedSigner. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi We want no repair. Return of money at the very least. I’d never get close anything nvk has touched. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi This level of fuck up? Never. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Now they have to transfer it and cannot stand by idly. But people who go robbed of hundreds of Bitcoins the first hour did not see any of it coming. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Thank you guys for the help. It seems the only option was to use the terminal and since this time we had an AnyDesk session, it wasn't too troublesome. So mission is now complete! #nevent1q…w8ma #nevent1q…w8ma npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Have to look into it. Looks exciting. #nevent1q…xlt0 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I ran into the same problem while helping a friend with MK4. Someone on Nostr said upgrading to one earlier firmware and then the current one would solve the issue. But have heard the cli works flawlessly anyway. I haven’t had the chance to try either with my friend. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I have empathy for anyone who has lost money due to this, but not for the one who made this happen due to negligence. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi We did not have to roll dice. It’s the responsibility of a signing device to generate a secure seed, not yours to generate it manually. And ColdCard fucked up big time in that area. Saying users have to roll dice to generate their keys instead of relying on the device to generate sufficient entropy is just as nonsensical as saying they have to memorize their 12-word seed instead of relying on a seed plate to store it. #nevent1q…rpcy npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Oh, so that’s why the virtual drive didn’t work either. Thanks. It’s on a remote computer with me having to tell the user to type in the commands, so it wasn’t convenient to use the CLI. We attempted to do so, but we ran out of time for that session. I’ll first try to upgrade it to another old firmware and only later to the new one. If that one fails, I’ll take control remotely and do it over terminal. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Yeah, that’s fair. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Shit! That annoying voice again! npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I'll try that. Thanks. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Opposite of anything a jerk like him would do. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi We did it! After a long coordination involving three people, we successfully moved 3.6 BTC out of an ColdCard MK4 and into a secure wallet. We're not completely done yet. We still need to update the firmware, except the wallet won't recognize firmware files from either microSD or USB. So the device itself appears to be defective on top of the recent firmware disaster! @nprofile…h23z should reimburse the cost of this wallet at the very least! npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi If CoinKite does not go out of business following this massive fuck-up, I'd say nothing wrong in this world would be ever corrected. #nevent1q…qu7m npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I don't think having a 24-word seed sufficiently increases your security when the RNG algorithm is simply not used. That's why it's been a colossal fuck-up. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Big time! If you have any funds on CC single-sig, move it fast. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi A DIY Jade on a cheap, general-purpose ESP32 would have done better. Yet nvk took a piss at it any chance he got. #nevent1q…cwma npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Telegram is great! I use its bots to monitor my NAS and all the services running on it. You monitored my Bitcoin node (before it died 🤪) the same way, completely for free. You can also integrate your own apps with Telegram and use it as your program’s GUI. I have a bot there that my friend has written and we use it to organize our memes and videos and call them with keywords in any chat. 😂 It’s completely self-hosted and private. 😎 Most of Telegram’s features are free. I still bought Premium, not because I needed it, but because I appreciate the work they’re doing. It was my way of saying thank you. #nevent1q…qv32 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi It's one of the points NVK was criticized for and tbh, I never found his response convincing. That said, it's not fair to say Coldcard became closed-source. The source code remained publicly available for inspection. Initially, it was released under a very permissive open-source license that even allowed commercial use. Ironically, it was precisely because Foundation Passport lawfully reused a substantial portion of that code, in full compliance with the license, that NVK concluded such a permissive license wasn't the right approach. 🤦♂️ He didn't make the code closed-source; he made the license less permissive. You can still inspect the source and even build your own wallet from it, but you can no longer use it in a competing commercial product. It says so much about our boy's personality. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Indeed. What makes it really tragic is that the user took all the precautions. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Yeah, I just heard it in my head as I read your post. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I recommend Linux Mint. You install it and it fucking works. That's what I love about it. (I used to recommend Ubuntu, but they've made some decisions around package installation that really upset a lot of people. I find the way they handle it pretty dishonest, so I don't recommend it anymore.) With many other distros, getting the basics set up for everyday use can take a bit of work. Linux Mint is much more user-friendly in that regard. You install it and you can immediately play videos and music, do word processing, and integrate your Google account to sync your Calendar and Google Drive files. If you go with Mint, you won't have to dive too deep into the Linux rabbit hole to just get it working. You can always explore more at your own pace if it starts to interest you. (And I'm sure it will. 😉) Even if you get stuck somewhere, you can just ask Codex or Claude to fix it for you, and they'll simply do it. Codex is terminal-based. But don't think of it like a traditional terminal app where you have to type commands for every little thing. You launch it by typing `codex` and from that point on, you're mostly just chatting with it in a retro-looking terminal window, which has its own charm. :)))) That's the beauty of AI agents: instead of memorizing commands, you just talk to them. Claude, on the other hand, has a GUI, so that's definitely a point in its favor. Funny enough, I'd been using Claude in the terminal on my Linux Mint for so long that I completely forgot I'd even installed the GUI. I actually had to look it up to make sure there was a Linux version. 😄 (I had to look it up because I'm writing this from a Mac machine.) npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Yeah, if you haven't committed to a full annual plan, you can try out whoever you're curious about each month. I hadn't heard of OCLP. I didn't even know something like that existed. I had an old MacBook Air and the latest macOS update it supported made it unbearably slow. Chrome, Brave, and Google Drive started warning me they were going to stop supporting it. Imagine, even the browsers were about to stop getting updates. :))) So I installed Linux Mint on it and now it runs like a champion. 🤩 I'm going to do the same with my wife's MacBook, which is actually in better condition than mine. Once you have Linux, you can use these agents through the Terminal, which isn't the most comfortable experience. I'm definitely a GUI maxi when it comes to AI agents. They make everything soooooo much easier and faster, and they help you keep everything organized. But the terminal is perfectly livable. You can still make them do the craziest shit you can't imagine yourself ever learning to do. These guys are amazing! They've saved me so much money by stopping me from buying unnecessary shit and I haven't even mentioned how much time they've saved me. "Curious... it appears Claude Chat is disconnected and context and history don't carry over to Claude Code. When you say you have reached mutual understanding, does that mean that your history with ChatGPT is taken into account in Codex?" That's precisely what I mean. ChatGPT tries to learn about you without you having to explicitly tell it to (although you should enable the Memory feature in the settings). With Claude, my experience has been the opposite. Every new chat feels like meeting for the first time. Maybe I'm being unfair. I only played around with it for less than a month. So take that as subjective. You really have to try them on for size and see which one fits you best. Excuse my long rant :))) npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi QR codes were supposedly a security risk until NVK incorporated them into his own Coldcard Q. USB cables were supposedly a security risk too and he never missed a chance to mock Ledger over them. (This "issue" he kept raising had a very simple solution, but if you only listened to him unchallenged, you'd never have heard about it.) He poked fun at @nprofile…g8xl Jade for using the marketing term "virtual secure elements", yet having two secure elements did nothing when his product failed to generate enough entropy. He mocked @nprofile…w6hy for using a general-purpose Raspberry Pi and made a huge deal about being able to extract the seed if you were close enough to the device using radio extraction techniques. Yet he made such a blunder that you didn't even have to be anywhere near his devices to compromise them. I'm mad! I'm still waiting to hear from a friend who had a single-sig on MK4. I hope his funds are safe or at least he transferred any serious amount to his Cold Card. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi This is truly the saddest part: "The worst part is that they did everything right." And please don't come back with "they should have used dice," "they should have used multisig," or any such bullshit. Many of the most security-conscious, hardcore Bitcoiners chose ColdCard because they believed it was one of the safest hardware wallets available. #nevent1q…w825 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Ok, it was just a minute long :))) #nevent1q…jq8m npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Will give it a listen right now! #nevent1q…pgva npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I used to think generating a seed with dice was unnecessarily paranoid or that it relied too much on the fairness of the dice. After the Coldcard hack, I'm going to take a much closer look at it. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I woke up around 5:00 a.m., rolled over, checked my phone, and saw the post about the Coldcard hack. That was enough to keep me awake for the next two hours. My heart goes out to everyone who lost funds because of this vulnerability. I hope the hacker gets found. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi If you’re curious what Vitor is referring to, here’s a short video for context: https://youtu.be/1cUUfMeOijg #nevent1q…shs6 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi If you haven’t paid for the annual subscription, I’d recommend giving Codex a go. For me (and I’m open about it, it’s a personal preference), it understands me better and get things done more efficiently. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I used ChatGPT primarily and ChatGPT and I have reached a mutual understanding. 😁 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Now, it's on my mind too! npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi :)))) npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Oh, boy! I have so many horror stories when it comes to this. Once I asked it to convert a google sheet to an excel file and it was stuck on it for over ten minutes without any result! I eventually decided to look for the option myself. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi My new hypothesis is that Satoshi killed himself, when he realized he had lost his keys. Otherwise, we would have heard from him bitching about it. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I was reluctant to do this, but I eventually had to hire some assassins to deal with the ramshorn snails that have completely taken over my tank! In the second picture, you can see just how many tiny ramshorn snails gathered around a small piece of algae wafer I dropped into the tank. There are so many that my shrimp can't even get a bite! https://blossom.primal.net/c7117529cf486af64460c59788e41221e01e90c822870571811617fadcb73a2c https://blossom.primal.net/fb68bd8ad99c5a1c20d53a69aa30484830f76942e5b55c621b4b5a7f21bdb018 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi The Islamic Republic is continuing its war on the people of Iran. But Iranians are fighting back. Yesterday in Esfahan, citizens noticed the regime was preparing for a barbaric public execution. Reports circulated that the regime was set to hang three protesters from the January 8/9 uprising. At dawn, hundreds of brave Iranians gathered in the square to protest this medieval brutality and public murder. They jeered and shouted at the executioners. Sadly as the call to prayer played, two young men were hung from cranes. Security forces chased the protesters, firing on them with live ammunition, trying to kill more and more Iranians. The murder of protesters and other political prisoners are often done in prisons. But the regime, fearing the Iranian people will rise against them, is conducting them in public in an attempt to intimidate them into silence. Untold other brave protesters are currently facing a similar fate. Their lives hang in the balance. This is two Irans: the vile and evil Islamic Republic against the brave and heroic people of Iran. Iranians will not back down. They will fight. But they should not have to fight alone. The world must back these brave men and women. #Iran #KingRezaPahlavi #FreeIran 🔗 @PahlaviReza (https://x.com/i/status/2082100001245995361?mx=2) https://blossom.primal.net/6c0b226e17f3b135579247feadf1a665407eabef66a997f42b5366a7cab4477a.mp4 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I tried claude this month. I went with Haven. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Last night, after several years of owning an iPhone, I realized that clicking the WiFi symbol in Control Center does not actually turn off WiFi. It only disconnects from the current network and reconnects under certain circumstances. For me, one of those “certain circumstances” was waking up and unlocking my phone! With my Android phone, I could keep a routine: wake up, set a timer for one hour, and only then connect to the internet. But I had lost that control for maybe four years. The moment I unlocked my iPhone, I was bombarded by notifications. It did not matter if I was in Sleep Mode. I could still see new notifications bundled together, which made me curious and ruined my offline-start routine. Last night, eventually, with the help of ChatGPT, I realized that I had not actually been turning off WiFi all these years. I needed my phone for my alarm, so this happened on any day I set an alarm with Sleep Cycle. I set up a shortcut to turn off WiFi properly, and today was my first true offline morning: I woke up, unlocked my phone, and was not bombarded by notifications. https://blossom.primal.net/c9643780415edae749a67f40e1114d5fca6623a570cee99f128809f580795a75.jpg npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I stopped using them almost entirely after realizing they’d be causing me to get what I mistook for a cold. Maybe it’s because I’ve used ChatGPT for a long time and we understand each other’s language better. But most developers prefer Claude. What’s your choice? npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Grape leaves. Yeah, I don’t know either. I don’t think it involved any treatment. I think there’s no workaround for it or maybe it would make the wallet reflect your funds too slowly that makes it impractical. I might be wrong about that though. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi You wouldn’t do it. Your wallet software connected to a public node may do that. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi You just have read the title, right? npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I dig retro stuff. 🥹 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi I'm not a programmer by profession, but I can code at a decent level. Yesterday, with the help of Codex, I built one of the most useful apps I've ever made for myself, without writing a single line of code. It's a terminal-based habit tracker. I built it because I couldn't find anything that worked the way I wanted. Over the years, I've tried countless apps and services, but none of them met my needs. If I had built it myself from scratch, it would've taken me at least a week of focused work, just to get the core functionality working! But since yesterday, I've spent my time testing, adding features, refining the UX, and iterating on the app, all without touching the code. So far, I've already made 10 commits. That's remarkable. The habit tracker now lives on my NAS and works exactly the way I want it to. It might never leave there. I really don't know and don't care. I've pushed it to GitHub too, but the repository is private. Maybe it'll stay that way. Maybe I'll make it public one day. Either way, I'll keep tweaking it to fit my own needs, and I'm super stoked that I now have the app I always wanted but nobody had made. I know I've expressed this many times in this short text, but that's, indeed, remarkable! https://blossom.primal.net/1eabe6d7571533dfaa3b09fecd7adaef9dc3798e4a9cae3a8561f3539ccc3a38.png npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi A pleasure, sir! 🫡 npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Well, I didn’t say anything against that. That’s actually one of the points I make in the article. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Yeah, but there’s more caveats to that. If you share your master public key with a public node, you’re still exposed. npub1heqkxm37d5h7n8sx2gqdez5sxnu39qrylhxnnd66dxpu4e2ufyysdkkx28 momotahmasbi Fuck! But thank God for Linux! #nevent1q…vlqs
