@nprofile…8s0g yeah an N total monsters with a "last alive" index would probably be the way to do it. Then it's just a memcpy swap from alive->dead. That can probably be broken up by level/segment depending on the kind of game you're making so it's not "reserve space for every monster in the game"

I think there may be a disconnect between the way gamers think of their favorite studios and the way they actually run. There's a particular mindset that I've fallen into in the past where you think "oh yeah this game flopped but that should be a wake-up call and hopefully they'll learn from it for their next game"
but most studios don't have enough capital to be able to float a complete flop and make it out alive (not without selling out to a larger conglomerate). Usually what happens is they either fold, or are "restructured" into another company
there really isn't much opportunity for a "wake-up call" moment, and it seems like it's tied to the business model itself
