We switched to a different proxy, so this is fixed in 0.4.1
We are in the middle of a rebuild for v1, so we will switch to lnsocket-rs as part of that work so we no longer need the proxy.

We use Tauri for our native app which has a Rust backend. I have already ported most of our logic to Rust, but i still need to do the CLN connection which is still running in the JS frontend. I would love to use TCP directly as well so that we don’t need the WS proxy anymore.

Hey Jason, yes the intent is to eventually replace Quickbooks, but that is a big undertaking. In the meantime we are focusing on the Bitcoin side of things. You can currently generate a capital gains report which should help replacing Koinly etc. We plan on doing a quickbooks export in the short term so your Bitcoin txs can be easily imported in to Quickbooks.
We don’t currently explicitly support fiat transactions, but the import tool can be used to import fiat deposits and withdrawals to track balances (think fiat balance on an exchange). We may integrate Plaid for fiat bank account support, but not currently high on our list.
We may also evolve in to a private personal finance tracker like ynab as well. Many directions we could go in, so just focusing on the core logic and bitcoin first and listening to feedback and requests!

There might have been an issue with a db migration across versions. I recommend resetting the app and starting fresh. You can do that from the settings menu by clicking the little wrench icon in the bottom right corner. Let me know if that fixes it on your Mac.

My wife has a eerily similar story to yours. Her health problems also really started in her thirties, including being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after our first child. She finds eating keto is the best thing she can do to manage her blood glucose levels. Have you come across any good peat references for people with type 1 diabetes? If she were to start increasing her sugar intake it would just send her on a rollercoaster for her glucose levels. Maybe there is a way to ramp it up over time?

The goal is to provide a custom connection so that transaction events can be bulk uploaded from csv files without Clams needing to specifically support that wallet / exchange. Hoping to make the UX just decent enough as this is really for the last 10% of wallets that we won't support without significant demand. Otherwise we would be just creating connections without making headway on the other features we want to implement.

I have tried a few ways to get my local farmers onboarded to Bitcoin.
First I start by just asking if they will accept Bitcoin as payment to get a sense if they are curious or not. Most of them show a vague interest, but they also feel like it is too much to learn or understand. I usually let them know that if they have any questions or need help getting setup that I can help them out with that. After that I try just talking to them about it each time I see them unless they are getting annoyed by it haha.
I then tried printing up those Bitcoin for local community brochures that are open source and added my own little bit of informational insert to it and gave them to all the farmers I had built a relationship with over a year or so. I was hoping that giving them something to read while they have downtime at the market that clearly lays out the benefits to them would spur them to ask for more info. I provided a bit of info about myself and my technical background and gave them some contact info and offered to meet them for a coffee to discuss.
Not one of the merchants has taken me up on that offer unfortunately.
Not sure what it is going to take to move them towards accepting Bitcoin. I think culturally Australians are less amenable to Bitcoin compared to Americans. The depreciation of the AUD may have to get a lot worse before they reach out, but at least they know who to talk to if they do want to learn more.

Learned a little more how the legacy credit card system works and got a good bit of motivation to hasten my family's move to a full Bitcoin standard.
We go to the local farmers market every week and we had noticed that sometimes if we went to a shop after our farmers market run, our credit card would decline despite having plenty of available balance. This continued happening and got so bad that our card had become unusable. I eventually got fed up enough that I called the bank to find out what is going on.
Turns out that when we make many payments in quick succession to many different vendors, it triggers the banks fraud detection. So each week we would go to the market and our card would get suspended. Someone from the bank would then need to manually review our txs, see that it is the same farmers market pattern and then restore our card. Apparently due to black friday sales, they have been swamped with fraud detections, so they have been slower at restoring cards, making our card unusable. The bank said that essentially this process is going to happen every time we go to the farmers market. I am honestly shocked at how rudimentary their fraud detection algorithms must be. Surely not too hard to see that the pattern of txs matches the same pattern at the same time, every week.
I had no idea how much manual work was going in to keeping our card working. Obviously Bitcoin fixes this and really reiterates how much of a step improvement Bitcoin is compared to the legacy system.
The only reason we use a credit card over a debit card is that in the case of it getting compromised, then the bank is on the hook for stolen funds, which i my experience makes them much more responsive.
We are going to stop being lazy and just get out cash each week from now on. Much better privacy and better for the merchants. Long term I really want to start getting paid in Bitcoin and then hopefully find some good tools for interacting with the legacy system. Really need to orange pill my local farmers, but that is proving difficult after already trying multiple times.

Does LnSocket handle the CommandoMsgContinues message now? That could be the issue when trying to load a request that is bigger than 64k, the message is split in to multiple messages that need to be joined. Last I used LnSocket (ages ago now) it didn't handle this case.

Here's what auto detection for transactions will look like once you start adding extra connection to fill in gaps in your Bitcoin data. In the video I just connected another CoreLN regtest node since that is the only connection module we have currently completed. In reality it might be a cold storage xpub wallet or even a custodial wallet, but it demonstrates the effect. Then again, maybe you run multiple CoreLN nodes 🤷‍♂️
You can see the top transaction initially says that "Alice" sent sats to an address onchain. Once we add the second connection, Clams can automatically detect that it was actually a transfer between wallets that we own. This will be critical for capital gains and sats flow calculations, but it is also nice to see a human readable summary of what the transaction intent was.
After clicking on the transaction summary, we can then see more details about the inputs and outputs. Clams will try and give them intelligible labels, but is dependant on how much data the app has access to locally.
This kind of labelling is super useful in the case of interpreting channel closes and especially force closes to see the sweep transaction as well as the rounding donation to miners. I'll post a video of that another day to show what that looks like.

Here's a quick look at the new connection flow for connecting wallets.
You land on the homescreen after entering an encryption passphrase on the welcome route. The app will prompt you to connect a wallet with a link to the add wallet route.
We only have the CoreLN wallet connection module written at the moment, but the goal is to be able to connect many different kinds of wallets that will allow you to automatically sync transactions, channels, trades, withdrawals, deposits etc. We have plans for LND, Exchange wallets and xpub integrations as well as custom wallet imports when automatic syncing is not possible.
Some small improvements for CoreLN users in v2 is that you can now view and edit your configuration details without having to reset the app. This is handy if you want to update the rune or if your node ip changes. Once you have added your configuration details, Clams will connect to your node and then you can sync your device with your node. This is a major point of difference with v2 in that we sync a local db on your device with all the data we can successfully fetch from your node, rather than using your node as a real time API server that we fetch data from the network whenever we need it. This allows us to do some really cool local queries to match data across wallets and connect all of your transaction data in to a coherent picture.

I'll go through and explain some of the changes compared to v1.
So first up I am not a designer by any stretch, but we are currently a team of two, so design is on me for the moment. I think once we get v2 out and stable, we might try and contract a designer to give it a thorough work over.
I am really just going by feel and instinct after having the privilege of working consistently with some world class designers at my day job for a few years now.
I really like having the UI being ultra clean and minimalistic, but that also leaves the app lacking colour and just overall vibe. I think it is lame that most apps basically look the same these days, so I got to thinking of how I could add some vibe, but keep the UI clean. I had the idea of a lava lamp canvas animation that I have wanted to put in an app for ages and I actually found a Codepen that implemented just that! I had to make some modifications to suit what we needed and you can see the results in the above gif. It is obviously a lot smoother when not compressed as a gif.
Ok so in terms of UI elements, we have the buttons on the top left that are always available for quick access for common operations. Lock, Scan(input) and Receive.
The lock button will clear the decrypted session secret from memory and removes the UI, leaving only a "Unlock" button in the centre of the screen. When clicked this will prompt you to enter your passphrase to decrypt your session secret from storage. So that is one major design decision that we changed in v2 is that when you first visit the app, you will be prompted to enter a passphrase. That passphrase will be used to encrypt your session secret which is never stored unencrypted and is only decrypted in memory. The session secret is then used as a kind of app identity and used to encrypt/decrypt all sensitive information in the app. For example we use it when connecting to CLN nodes so that you can restrict your rune auth token to this specific session which provides an extra level of security when handling runes. Down the line we might also use this session secret to derive Nostr identities or just use it for signing DM's that are used for notifications.
Next we have the scan button which takes you to an "Input" route which allows you to use the camera to scan a QR, text input to type/paste a string, image upload to upload saved QR's, and a NFC scanner if it is available on your device (mostly just Android for now).

Still not sure if this is the right icon and name for this route. The idea is that is a universal input for getting info in to the app. It's tricky as it is not just for sending to an invoice or address. The input accepts LNURL Auth and Withdraw as well as Offers which don't all fit cleanly in to a "Send" category. It is not just a scanner either, but hard to convey all of the functionality in a single icon, so I figure the scan icon is the most used and recognisable. Would love some suggestions on this!
Finally the receive button takes you to the receive route:

You select the connection you would like to receive to, whether to generate an invoice or onchain address, or both and then you can input an optional amount. In v1 we had the option to denominate all values in fiat or sats, but for v2 we are opting to make sats the standard. If you do need to create an invoice quickly for a fiat value, you can click the fiat calculator button:

Enter your fiat amount (denomination is set in the settings), click "Set Amount" and it will fill out the amount input with the corresponding amount in sats.
Once you create the payment it will take you to the detail route for that payment with a QR. You can see the tabs on the QR component that allows you to switch between different QR's. If there is both an onchain address and invoice available, we will have a "Unified" option which is a BIP21 QR.

The next major change we wanted in v2 was to also build native apps that can be used as an alternative to the web based PWA. I had used Electron before, but had always found the performance to be a bit lacking, so I had a look around for alternatives. I came across Tauri: https://tauri.app/ which is built with Rust. Rather than shipping a full Chromium v8 + your app like Electron does, it utilises the native Webview instead, making it lightweight and performant and can be added to any frontend framework.
The DevEx of Tauri is probably the best of any tool I have used. It just worked as it said it should. We now wrap a few functions that drive notifications and storage so that they can handle slightly the different calls needed based on whether we are in a native or browser env and we are good to go.
Tauri supports native desktop apps out of the box currently and they have native mobile apps supported in alpha at the moment. Once mobile support is out of alpha, we plan on integrating that as well. So eventually Clams will be a full cross platform app with one codebase.

So the first major refactor for v2 we needed to do is store data locally in a structured way. In v1 conceptually we thought of the connected Core Lightning node as just an API server. The browser would make requests and then store the result in memory and the UI would react to the in memory observables. For v2 we are conceptually thinking about the connections as a data source that we need to sync our local DB with. We also need to be able to make SQL type queries on the local data to be able to link all of the different data types together, so IndexedDB seemed to be the way to go.
The IndexedDB API is a little gnarly to work with raw and we also ideally wanted to have the DB be reactive so we could map the UI state directly to the DB and have it update in real time. I did some digging and came across Dexie JS (https://dexie.org/). It is a light, performant wrapper around IndexedDB and comes out of the box with "live queries" which return an observable that updates when DB updates affect that specific query. Clams is already built on the killer combo of Svelte and RXJS which play really well together, so adding Dexie was perfect!
So our connection sync strategy is that when the app loads, or the "Sync" button is clicked for a connection, we will initiate the connection, fetch all the required data, update the DB and that will directly drive the UI. We have a `lastSync` timestamp parameter stored, so the goal would be to only fetch data that has been updated since the last timestamp to avoid being bandwidth inefficient and fetching data we already have. I am still working out how we are going to do that for CoreLN (currently the only connection implemented). I am thinking that we might be able to do it with their SQL plugin and use a query that asks for all data with a timestamp after `lastSync`. Otherwise the proposed "wait" API that Rusty has been working on might be able to work nicely as well.
So v2 now has a nice structured DB that is indexed for efficient queries and reactive so that it can drive the UI directly.
