Trying to replace Slack and GitHub at the same time is megalomaniacal. Companies buy compliance and integrations, not “self-sovereign” solutions. And Dorsey’s track record is well-known: he launched and abandoned Bluesky, scrapped Web5, and funded Nostr for years without gaining traction. Buzz smells like an attempt to retroactively create a raison d’être for his favorite protocol. Buzz is the first Nostr application that fits the protocol. Machines don’t need network effects, don’t need friends, and don’t lose keys. Maybe Nostr was never meant for humans—it was just waiting years for the agents. Buzz will probably die too; the idea behind it will be stolen.

One more thing: protocols die differently than products. IRC has been “dead” for thirty years and still runs. Nostr can idle along forever as niche infrastructure — key-based identity, zaps, relays. Dead as a product, undead as a protocol; it just never delivered on the promise of replacing Big Tech.

nostr was never alive. it never had organic growth — only imported spikes (the Twitter exodus, the Damus launch). People stayed for the ideology, not for the people. But networks live on relationships, not convictions. There was never that moment where regular users bring their friends along.
