Well, that's a more nuanced, of course biased, post than I have read lately. Which reminded that no matter what side of the argument you are, much respect is needed. Seeing @nprofile…r085 track record I much respect his dedication to #bitcoin and Core in the past. Seeing how the "debate" has been evolving in the past weeks, mud throwing and down right making it personal, does not do any good to bitcoin at all. I'd argue that any one not capable of having a civilized discussion about this, only has their own agenda and does not whish any good on bitcoin. The argument is overheated and debate is too passionate and bitcoin is not worth losing your humanity over.

That sounds like a technical issue that can be solved, of course I am not an expert, but more magical things have been created.
Apparently bip 114 and 116 address this issue for instance. If you ask ai several other options are also proposed.

I don't think that it is a logical fallacy. If you create a mechnism by which a judgement is made on the transactions content, that is a slippery slope towards censorship. When we would only have rules on transaction properties, there is no way to filter spam.
Only limiting the op_return is already a possible configuration for node runners.

I agree that running a node already can have legal risks, although it is a gray area. That already is the case, as the blockchain already contains illegal content. I think it would be more fruitful if efforts are put in to create legal clarity in different jurisdictions. Also, what options are there to find out who out the content there in the first place.

How will node runners decide? Does the software have to be updated? Does this mean a hard fork for every "cautious change"?
What is part of the resource growth can be actually attributed to spam? Sources?
If legal risks are an issue, pruning might be an option. Or may be only keeping the last block after the initial download and verification of the blockchain. May be there are more intelligent ways of clearing your node of unwanted data, instead of trying to determine what is spam or what is not.
This opens the door to censorship and is by definition an end to the permissionlessness of bitcoin.

How does one decide what is financial data? Who is going to make that decision?
Also, the average block size did not really pass the 2MB limit, so one can argue about the real impact ordinals have other then paying miners and keeping the network save.

I called it "digital transformation."

"Global enterprise achieves 40,000 hours of productivity gains with Copilot."
The CEO shared it on LinkedIn.
He got 3,000 likes.
He's never used Copilot.
None of the executives have.
We have an exemption.
"Strategic focus requires minimal digital distraction."
I wrote that policy.
The licenses renew next month.
I'm requesting an expansion.
5,000 more seats.
We haven't used the first 4,000.
But this time we'll "drive adoption."
Adoption means mandatory training.
Training means a 45-minute webinar no one watches.
But completion will be tracked.
Completion is a metric.
Metrics go in dashboards.
Dashboards go in board presentations.
Board presentations get me promoted.
I'll be SVP by Q3.
I still don't know what Copilot does.
But I know what it's for.
It's for showing we're "investing in AI."
Investment means spending.
Spending means commitment.
Commitment means we're serious about the future.
The future is whatever I say it is.

Great topic! Freedom of expression is very fundamental for our relations and our connection to the outside world. At the same time I see more and more people identifying themselves with their convictions, becoming them in a sense. Opening up to more interaction with others requires us to do inner work and see our thoughts and convictions as what they are and free oneself from them. To be mild outwards, requires you to be mild inwards.

One can be free in several ways. I want to stay away from any hierarchy between them, but they are closely connected.
🤸The most basic form is physical freedom. That includes the ability as well as the right to do so. Both can be altered, either through technology or politics for example. In most countries around the world this is in conflict with private property for example.
💭 Freedom of thought, the right to think, fantasize or dream anything you like. As far as I know, there is no current form of technology able to change or influence that directly, but propaganda comes a long way.
🗣 Freedom of expression, manifesting your thoughts to others and gathering around ideas. Art is also a good example of this. Obviously under threat in a lot of countries. Again technology and politics are important ways of increasing (or decreasing) one's freedom to expression. I am in doubt of the freedom to love also falls in this category or if that is a variant on its own.
🧘 Spiritual freedom or freedom of identity, a hard one to attain, because it is solely within ourselves that this takes place. It's more subtle than freedom of thought and also more fundamental. The ability to detach your identity from your convictions (and thus thoughts). Freeing yourself from those allows for more compassion and a milder attitude towards others (and their ways of thinking).
It is important that freedoms are in itself not equivalent to rights, but rather these are more like abilities. As a society we can provide for this, through legislation, but that is not a given as we can observe around us.
I feel this list is complete, but am certainly curious if you have spotted other forms of freedom one could attain?

The accumulation of wealth is to increase our influence on our future, be it a nice house, a vacation or just leading the comfortable life we're used to.
Current means of accumulation (savings, stocks, #bitcoin) are rooted in the assumption that others assign value to our belongings. Not mentioning here the dependency one's wealth has on a sufficient technical and digitally connected civilization.
I notice portfolio specialists, traders, financial advisors telling that you should diversify. When you zoom out, the diversification they mean (savings, stocks, #bitcoin and even gold) is still built on the same (technical and societal) fundamentals.
To truely diversify the means you have to influence to future also means inner work (#meditation), connecting with and increasing understanding of nature and generaly maintain a good health through exercising. Next to truely diversifying your wealth and health, you're likely to extend the time to enjoy that wealth and accumulate the skills to invest more wisely.
