I like this approach, I try to raise my kids to be rational. So it’s okay for them to ask some questions of me when they don’t like the decision, my word is still final, I’m the parent and they are the child, but better that they question things sometimes rather than never question or question all the time as OP is insinuating.

So there is a massive subtlety that has been lost around medicine. You don’t outsource your sovereignty to a doctor, they outsource their knowledge to you…
Everyone is throwing out the baby with the bath water. Seek a medical professionals advice that you respect, and then follow it if seems appropriate for you. 2020 made it a two sided choice, either “trust the science” like a religion or throw out most of civilizations progress of medicine.
I’ve seen a friend grow deathly ill with cancer before finally throwing in the towel and seeking medical advice and being cured. I’ve seen a fathers friend ignore medical advice and live twenty years past his 1 year to live cancer diagnosis. I’ve also had a friend lose a baby in a home birth when a cesarean would have saved the child…
DONT trust doctors blindly, but to throw the whole practice out and revert to the dark ages is absurd. We need more reason and less emotion.

It seems nothing made by “big tech” is helpful.
Everyone joined Facebook to make friends, and ended up losing them during disputes, using it to keep track of enemies, became tempted and split up their marriage.
Everyone joined instagram to share photos of their lives with their friends, and ended up not sharing because they don’t compare to fake influencers, stopped sharing because they are too tired after scrolling for hours consuming.

It has always been the ideal of a society to outsource education to a professional. A sign of a communities affluence was the wisdom of the teachers they could hire.
Now, I think the desire of most people to homeschool is that they are concerned with the lack of schooling and the amount of “parenting” modern schools do. We are also suffering because character has become dissociated from quality of teacher…
So, to sum up. Schools are great, and should have knowledgeable teachers running them. Sadly our education systems are sick from the top down, so we have poor quality teachers, lacking character, doing more “parenting” than teaching.
Can parents teach their kids? Sure! But imagine Alexander taught only by Phillip instead of Aristotle 🤯
