Shocking, but not surprising.
It wasn't too long ago that I could walk down the road, go through the doors of my bank after a years with no contact, no transactions and ask the teller for an account statement. This was normal.
Deactivating and some basic security checks, I could almost forgive, but needing to 'maintain presence' or be tracked is not the social contract I was hoping for. Such a waste of everyone's time.

All of this has come about from back when there were no such regulations for a thing that was regarded as a fad and hand-waved away as a joke, and only now is been taken seriously. It's a classic case of making judgements on-the-fly, and then retro-fitting regulation to prevent disruption to a corrupted system. We all know this. I guess it depends on the context of the political system they're operating within. Wouldn't, for example, a Centrist Reformist policy be largely ineffectual when there's a very clear and present problem caused by something and that is clearly unpopular amongst a clear majority?
But I agree, a maximalist ideology often causes as many problems as it seeks to address. I just feel inaction, or inadequate action is often equally scary, in that you watch the steady erosion of your home and your values. It's like living through a nightmare in slow motion.

I remember the title sequence, a plausible scientific premise and the first few episodes were promising, but IMO it devolved week by week into formulaic drama with some mutant action.
