Yes, it does.
1) it creates visibility for platforms other than GH
2) it makes users go to Codeberg.org instead of GitHub. This saves them from needing to go to Github, with all the tracking / bullshit involved.
3) it draws users away from GH. If enough people do it, they will maybe focus on the basics again and won't annoy us with AI crap.
4) we need to decentralize. Not hosting all our software on the same M$-powered platform is a necessary part of that.

Lacht mich aus, aber bis vor wenigen Wochen wusste ich nicht, dass diese Ketten bei den Mülltonnen explizit dafür gedacht sind, die Tonne beim Kippen und Beladen zu stützen.
Habe die Kette jedes mal ausgehängt, die Tonne herausgezogen und wieder hereingefahren - und mich geärgert, dass eine vermeintlich unnütze Kette davor hängt. Vor was sollte die schützen? Vor Wegrollen? 🤣 Falls die Tonne abhauen will?
Aber so ergibt das schon Sinn. Ist auch viel komfortabler :P

Gibt es jemanden unter euch, der /die Zugriff auf die nötigen Werkzeuge hat, und mir für meinen Kater eine kleine Marke zur Befestigung am Halsband herstellen kann?
Sie soll aus Metall bestehen, eine kleine Öse zur Befestigung haben und neben dem Namen auch noch eine eingravierte / gelaserte Telefonnummer haben.
Das ganze noch halbwegs ansehnlich und ohne scharfe Kanten. Ca in der Größe eines 20 Cent Stücks.
Kenne ich jemanden, der bereit ist, sowas gegen einen Obolus herzustellen? 🙂

Aktuell sind 2x Samsung PM9A3 4 TB verbaut. Die funktionieren auch noch prima. Derzeit gibt es also noch keine "alten" ;-)
Sollten sie irgendwann defekt sein, werden sie natürlich fachgerecht entsorgt. Verschlüsselt sind sie auch.

Ich habe mal für den metalhead.club gerechnet. 💸
* Bisherige Kosten bei Hetzner (1x Monitoring, 2x CDN): 19,92 € / Monat
* Neue Kosten: 26,73 € / Monat
Unser Hauptserver bleibt davon unberührt, weil ich diesen auf eigener Hardware betreibe.
Allerdings würden Ersatz-SSDs in meinem Fall nun auch ca 6x so viel kosten wie zum Zeitpunkt der Anschaffung. (min. 2.000 € pro Stück)
Hoffen wir also, dass wir in den nächsten Jahren (?) keinen Defekt erleben 🫠

vor vielen Jahren bin ich mir Prosody gestartet und das ging auch einige Zeit gut. Damals gab es dann aber schnell Grenzen und ich musste bei ca 2.100 aktiven Usern auf Ejabberd umsteigen. Bereue die Entscheidung nicht (zumindest damals war Prosody nicht wirklich zuverlässiger), aber einfacher ist mein Leben seitdem auch nicht wirklich :D
Also wenn das Ding mal läuft, dann läuft es prima. Insgesamt habe ich damit auch sehr wenig Arbeit.
Aber _wenn_ es mal Kracht, dann bin ich umso hilfloser.

Nach einem Ejabberd-Update und -Neustart haben die Familienmitglieder nun teilweise Probleme mit der OMEMO-Verschlüsselung.
Jetzt debugge das mal halbwegs mit lauter nicht-Technikern, die einfach nur ihre Ruhe und einen funktionierenden Familienchat haben wollen und zig bis hunderte Kilometer voneinander entfernt leben.
Hasse gerade alles.
Wieso muss mit jedem Ejabberd Neustart irgendwas kaputt sein? Meistens sind es nur S2S Verbindungen, die sich mit weiteren Neustarts wieder einrenken. Aber diesmal ist es echt ein Problem.
Habe _echt_ keine Zeit für sowas :(

Yesterday I found CodeFloe: A public Forgejo (Git server) instance that is open to any projects and users.
Unlike Codeberg, it it not limited to Open Source licensed projects.
If you were thinking "Codeberg is nice, but what about my personal closed-source projects?" - this might be a solution for you!
The instance is hosted in Germany by "devYX GmbH", a swiss company. They're doing backups and are carefully designing their infrastructure. And they're very open about how it all works and what software they use. 👏

With Mastodon v4.4.0 instance owners can enable HTTP referrers. That means:
If somebody clicks a link on a Mastodon post (e.g. to a news article), the link target owner (such as the news site operator) can see that a user from that instance has visited their website.
They do _only_ get the instance domain (e.g. metalhead.club). No information about the user!
I've enabled this setting, because I am sure that it will increase awareness of Mastodon's existence. 💪

Our instance was established 8 years ago. It all started out of curiosity. Coming from the German tchncs.de instance, I was wondering if I could set up my own instance. Metalhead.club was born.
Quickly new members were attracted and contributed to metalhead.club's welcoming atmosphere. The Fediverse was very small at the time - but that didn't matter. Since then metalhead.club has been a place for new music discovery and networking among Metalheads worldwide!

Last night my fiancée and I went to FLEX bar in Munich for the first time - a bar for metal and rock fans.
I had already been in contact with the owner, Tobi, for a few weeks. He offered to advertise the metalhead.club at FLEX.
Of course, I accepted the offer straight away and not only brought flyers with me, but also two of the metalhead.club posters. We stuck one of them in the entrance area where it was clearly visible.
We had a great evening at FLEX and I can only recommend every metalhead in the Munich area to pay the bar a visit. Both the staff and the guests were very friendly, pleasant and open. We'd love to come back!

LoRaWAN bzw. LoRa ist eine relativ spezielle Funktechnik, die es erlaubt wenige Bytes an Daten mit sehr wenig Energie über weite Strecken (z.T. über 2 km in bebautem Gebiet) zu übertragen.
Ich bin nicht wirklich auf die Reichweite angewiesen, will mich mit der Technik aber mal beschäftigen und vor allem von dem niedrigen Energieverbrauch profitieren.
Am Ende sollen damit Raumklimadaten übermittelt und protokolliert werden, z.B. um dem Vermieter am Ende beweisen zu können, dass ausreichend gelüftet wurde :)

Man muss nur mal auf die "Explore" Seite schauen. Der Neuling erwartet Entertainment, hilfreiche Tipps, Neuentdeckungen, vllt auch etwas News.
Was er bekommt, ist Mimimi, Politik, Grantlerei, Beschwerden.
Kein Wunder also. Aus meiner Sicht. Die Themen hier sind aus öffentlicher Sicht ziemlich negativ. Das schlägt auf die Stimmung und lässt sich nur mit Filtern teilweise umgehen. Die muss man sich basteln.

Wow, metalhead.club server traffic really has decreased over the recent 5 months.
Whereas we had about 9.5 TB traffic in summer (and even more at the beginning of the year), metalhead.club now consumes about 7 TB these days.
Seems like the Federation is slowing down.
What do other #mastodon admins think about it? Do you see the same trend?

I've been following you for a while and I am impressed by your work on Apache NuttX.
Currently I'm trying to get a LoRa project done - with a module that combines Raspberry's RP2040 ("Pico") micro controller and the popular Semtech SX1262 LoRa chip. RAKWireless offers this as the RAK11300 LPWAN module.
Now that I'm hooked with the NuttX project, I'm considering using it for this project.
To make it work, proper "sleep" support is required. Do you know if / how well sleep mode or dormant mode are supported on the RP2040 with NuttX? How can I find out online?

Hmm. Der Fön ist ein relativ neuer Philips. Und der Luftentfeuchter vom Trotek. Denen würde ich auch eine gewisse Qualität zusprechen. Aber anscheinend haben sie etwas gemeinsam, was den nervösen Schalter auslösen lässt ;)
Die Wohnung verfügt über zwei solcher Einrichtungen. In beiden Fällen war es nur der eine AFDD, der ausgelöst hat. Der andere Sicherungskreis mit anderem AFDD scheint weniger nervös zu sein. Muss mal weiter durchprobieren. Vielleicht finde ich ein Muster.

Meine neue Wohnung hat AFDD Schutzschalter neben FI Schaltern und Überlastsicherungen. Interessant! Kannte ich vorher nicht. (siehe oranger Schalter rechts)

Das Ding scheint gewisse Muster zwischen Strom und Spannung mittels Mikrocontroller zu erkennen und abzuschalten, wenn es Anzeichen für Lichtbögen gibt.
Ob das so toll funktioniert - bin nicht sicher. Zuletzt hat der AFDD 2x ausgelöst. Einmal wegen eines Föns, einmal wegen des Luftentfeuchters. Obwohl in der Beschreibung steht, dass "normale" Bürstenfeuer in Elektromotoren nicht als Gefahr erkannt würden. 🤷‍♂️

Instead of Megalodon, I now occasionally use Moshidon as a Mastodon client. It's working okay so far - it only crashed once when I was editing mentions. Just like Megalodon.
The apps not only seem to look similar, but also have the same bugs. 🤔

Ich suche eine ca 100m2 Wohnung im Raum Erding. Bezug wäre dann vermutlich in den nächsten paar Monaten.
Meine Verlobte wurde für das kommende Schuljahr in Bayern in die Region versetzt und jetzt müssen wir zusehen, dass wir möglichst bald etwas passendes finden.

So Leute - Augen auf in #Wacken (dem Ort). Ab heute sollte das metalhead.club Werbeplakat an der Hauptstraße 33 hängen.
Ich habe allerdings noch keine Rückmeldung wann / ob das Plakat schon hängt. Kann sein, dass es erst im Laufe des Tages installiert wird.
Trotzdem nochmal eine kleiner Erinnerung an alle, die hinpilgern wollten 😉
