My family eventually got a PC but I wasn't allowed to do much more than write stories on it using wordperfect. I only really learned about computers once a neighbor lent me a laptop running DOS with a C compiler on a 3.5" floppy disk. He was nice but actually wrote missile firmware for the military... so in hindsight it was also weird to have started this way.
