"Survival of the fittest" is a misinterpretation of evolutionary theory. The ones that survive are the fittest. If you die you die. Being the fittest today is not a guarantee of survival in the future. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results.
While cooperation is a long term trend, competition is the environmental pressure driver. Cooperate to what end? There is no assured final destination.
Bitcoin is not the first tool to allow that. It is just the best we've had in history.

Core v Knots is like any other political debate.
If any bitcoin implementation is to hold the status of reference implementation, I'll hold their maintainers and defenders to the same standards I hold politicians, bankers and CEOs, in that I dont trust them or what they say at face value.
Core crowd is behaving like the situation party, Knots like the oposition. People claiming their side is the source of truth are sheep.
The world is better with many implementations of bitcoin. Just like the world is better without a single central control goverment.
The world is better because both Core and Knots exist, but no one should trust whatever their supporters say at face value.
I am very skeptic of Core folks right now. I think they are failing miserably at making people feel at ease. While I understand that is not their core skill, because they hold a very privileged position as maintainers of the reference implementation, I do expect that thry try harder.

War and violence have been in a historical downtrend even before fiat and bitcoin as well. Humanity has been moving towards more peaceful conflict resolution systems for millennia. current armed conflicts, lasting decades are a consequence of fiat systems "protecting the economy" from any crisis at any cost, than war is just signed off as a crisis, instead of bad political work.

I disagree.
But I will say that it depends on what you mean by fix it. I think the use of violence will be attempted under a bitcoin standard. I also believe it will be proven VERY penalizing for the perpetrator.
Under a bitcoin standard the financial cost for wars is not as easily obfuscated.
Fiat protects the economy in times of crisis, war being a crisis, allowing for wars to last far beyond any ideological justification has degrated beyond public support, since objectives are not ever reached to completion.
Making it expensive is the fix. Its not about suddenly everyone forgets that violence is a thing.. it just makes sure that the incentives for violence are very small compared to peaceful conflict resolution, in the short and long terms.

I agree in sentiment.
but I don't think this could have gone down any differently. there was no way the us government would do Bitcoin only reserves. it's the best strategy in the long run for the country and people. but not for politicians. realistically, it was never going to happen.
for the hopeful, game theory will create the incentives for other nations to create their own portfolio.

the problem I see in this reasoning then is how many generations? and how high a fee? with centralized mining, this is definitely a threat.
I don't think we're in doomsday scenario yet. and my guess is we'll see more mining pools rising to the occasion in the coming years, with governments and corps taking more of an interest. we'll have to see.

I don't think that is universally true, unfortunately.
I am under the impression that representative democracy as we know has slowly shifted from promoting and defending ideas, to promoting and defending a representative. and a consequence of that is that it creates a false dichotomy, because people will be in favor of/against a representative. while ideas provide a more granular basis of consensus.
I actually think people agree far more onany issues. and they are being distracted by a popularity contest

it's not about technological capabilities, it's about the technical skill required to maintain such a system on premise. most people do not have that skill. even torrent has evolved to use third party hosted services, think popcorn time, stramio. only by doing that they are able to reach broader audience

Not every user will be equipped to build, maintain or even run their own client/relay safely. These users will require either third party clients/relays as a service, or third party software they are not equipped to manage on their own.
That does not translate in a true p2p network. there is still a chance fewer such trustworthy projects will support most users. Where are they hosted? who maintains them?
true p2p is not feasible. there must be something in between.
on the other hand #nostr already allows for p2p networking when honest alternatives aren't available. p2p alone cannot scale.

If you believe that, than in my mind there can't ever be economic incentives to run a relay. And I don't think that can possibly be true.
Not everyone will want to run their own relay, it won't make sense for everyone to run their own relay. Not everyone will be technically equipped to properly maintain a relay of their own. of even clients of their own. But if there is value in the network they will want to be part of the network, they will need third party clients and relays for that.
That translates to economic incentives to run relays and clients. Maybe given the size of the network the incentives are not attractive for a broader set of would be service providers, but its another thing entirely to say that there are no incentives.

oh.. I was purposefully ignoring that. since I am allowing git to get all the references from the repo itself.
what is the perceived benefit of having state outside of the repo itself? git already does a good job figuring out states for itself. doesn't that open up the possibility of eventually consistent states when fetching?

right, I skipped the nip-34 because I always need to fetch it. I was only focusing on the identity part because it is only required for uploading.
full flow starts with fetching the nip-34 announcement to get the actual remote url, because it can be a GitHub url, so before considering auth I need to check that. that's done for all commands.
for upload specifically, if the remote url is pointing to a relay that supports nip34, then I try to auth. and only then allow ssh to attempt to connect.
if connection is successfully, git and ssh will do the rest.

then how that auth happens would depend on the relay. it can use a bunker, ssh ca, rolling keys, these are some of the ideas I had. I am trying to create a poc with rolling keys.
git push triggers AUTH flow,
helper sends an ssh pubkey with the auth event
relay validates identity of sender, registers key with local ssh server
on OK helper attempts ssh connection
everything else is git doing its own thing

are economic incentives the only ones we care about?
I kind of like the idea of conceptually distinguishing between clients and relays.
a client is an application that connects to relays to pull/push notes
a relay is a server that accepts connections and processes notes in the specified schema
those are abstract concepts. if an application implements both interfaces it's capable of P2P.
if you want to own your data, you need ro run a relay. isn't that where the incentives lie? the economic incentives are created by people who don't want to run their own relays.
I think the question then is: can only P2P exist? is there no room for something in between centralized platforms and P2P only?
