I wouldn’t be surprised. I briefly looked for other accounts of the community you are describing but couldn’t find anything. I was stationed at Fort Lewis 2012 - 2015. Saw a fair amount of people on the west coast who seem to choose to be transient/homeless. Wondering if the VA has any type of outreach to these people. I’m guessing they not, but don’t know.

I’d say foxes are one of my favorite animals now. Where I lived in Maryland there were a lot of red foxes. Once, I saw a red fox jump damn near 6 feet into a tree and come down with a squirrel. Other random fox story I have happened on a deployment to Zabul Province Afghanistan. We had just got back from a mission and I was alone doing maintenance on my truck. I felt like I was being watched and got a little paranoid. I turned around and there was a small desert fox about 10 feet away from me. I think it was begging for food but unsure. I glanced away for a moment and it was gone. That was surprising because there wasn’t really an egress route for it to be out of site so quickly. #note1h44…z8t8

Recent episode of JRE had a guy named Wes Huff. He is some PhD type who studies the Bible. I haven’t really been listening to JRE but since it seemed related to my Orthodoxy rabbit hole. It was interesting.
It has been a refreshing break from the other podcasts I normally consume.
Of course, if you haven’t heard of “No Agenda,” I’d definitely give that a listen. It is my favorite podcast by far.
