Perhaps that's why people in Japan live longer.
In the United States, you see one doctor who tries to be the doctor for everything and everyone. In Japan, you have a specialist for anything that troubles you. We have specialists here, but you often have to be referred to them.
I imagine it also helps that you guys have universal healthcare here. In the USA, you can go bankrupt just going into an ambulance.

Hate speech should never be accepted as free speech — never.
Officially, we technically do not allow hate speech, but in practice, we do. Meaning, while someone cannot use the "N" word, there are many other ways people can be hateful and cruel, and those used to be removed. But now the trolls and the bigots are given wide berth, and I hate it.
I have gotten away with removing some of the more aggressive jerks, but not without the worry and risk of being reprimanded. There are so many times I want to take action, but my hands are tied, so I have to be selective and careful. It should not be like this.

My vacation time was approved. 🎉
I am really looking forward to some time off. It has been getting harder to do my job — not because the work itself is getting harder, but because I am emotionally and mentally exhausted, as well as annoyed and frustrated with it.
There have been more than a few times now when I decided to do my own thing — essentially doing my job the way we used to, before all the policy changes.

One of those .nl (Netherlands) is open to anyone. You're in Europe, and that is what gave you access to registering .it (Italy).

That’s true — all gTLDs (generic top-level domains) fall under ICANN contracts, which are U.S.-based and require things like data escrow and participation in U.S. law–based dispute resolution. So even if the registry operates outside the U.S., it’s still tied to U.S. jurisdiction.
Where you start to see more independence is with ccTLDs (country-code domains, the two-letter ones). These are managed directly by governments or their appointed authorities, which means they’re not bound in the same way to U.S. legal frameworks.
That’s why, if digital sovereignty is important to you, ccTLDs are the better choice.

All of those domain name extensions are controlled by a single corporation in the United States: Identity Digital Inc., based in Washington State and owned by Ethos Capital, which is located in Massachusetts.
Identity Digital accounts for roughly 30% of all word-based domain name extensions. But they’re not alone — many other word-based extensions are also managed or sponsored by U.S. corporations, which places them under U.S. jurisdiction.
Digital sovereignty is important. That’s why I recommend avoiding word-based domain extensions, as well as .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, and .edu, all of which are governed under U.S. jurisdiction.

Digital Sovereignty is important, considering my government (the United States of America) is no longer the consumer-friendly, business-friendly, democratic nation it once was.
And being overseas does not mean a company is outside U.S. jurisdiction.
Proton is a good example of that. They started in Switzerland, and if they stayed in Switzerland, or expanded elsewhere except the USA, they would never have fallen under U.S. jurisdiction.
OVH, sadly, also now falls under U.S. jurisdiction. Originally, their American servers were not their own. OVH leased them as a customer, the same way you would lease a server, but resold those services. A bit of a gray area, but if U.S. laws or policies became a problem, they could pull out—the same way you'd cancel a subscription. Today, however, OVH Cloud has datacenters, offices, and is registered in the USA, which places them under U.S. jurisdiction.
Once you're here, as far as our legal code is concerned, you're our b*tch. Don't come here.

Following up on my little test. I tried to register the domain:
testing-eu-registration-from-usa.eu
It went as I suspected, as every domain register that I looked into, asked me to verify my EU Citizenship.
As I stated in my first reply, .EU is not currently available to everyone. Mostly because it seems to be some kind of crawler, and it has a bunch of user accounts posting every second -- Seriously, every 1–3 seconds.

The other bots (there are many) are leaching off of RSS feeds.

Many word-based domain extensions — such as .social — are managed by private corporations based in the United States. This still places your domain at risk of legal or commercial interference under U.S. jurisdiction.
Unlike sovereign nations, private corporations can be bought, pressured, or influenced far more easily — whether through legal action, acquisition, or political lobbying. In contrast, sovereign nations tend to defend their autonomy, even when they are financially strained or politically unstable.

That's technically true — only if you ignore the fact that WhatsApp is part of Meta, and everything is shared within Meta.
But it doesn't stop there. We also share data with external partners — and with governments. It's all in the fine print.

It's not pure end-to-end privacy. It's end-to-end ownership and oversight. Yes, your messages are encrypted — but everything still passes through us.

WhatsApp is not private.
Whenever I say this, I seem to upset someone. The reason it upsets people is that they want to believe the lie.
Belief can be both powerful and dangerous. Anyone who believes that we cannot see everything you say or share on WhatsApp has been deceived.
Many of my fellow Americans wanted to believe that COVID was “just a cold.” Five years later, there are still people who cling to that belief — and they get upset if you say otherwise. Belief can be a foolish thing, just as it can be a dangerous one.
Spying on you is profitable. But it’s also a legal requirement: under U.S. law, any provider can be held liable for what happens on their network. So the logical business move is to monitor everything — while claiming they share “nothing.”
Signal is not owned by Facebook, but it’s still based in the United States. I wouldn’t trust them, either — for the same reason you cannot trust us.

Right now, if you have an Android Phone and have any META apps -- Without opening them, check if they are running.
Power off and power on your phone (reboot), and they will still be running on their own.
Proceed to put your phone down on the table without opening the app and talk about something random. DYI Projects, for example. Do this for an hour or so, and wait.
Your META apps will start showing you ads for that topic if there is a market for it. We're always listening -- Always!

The amount of information we collect on you is insane. And we do it all for supposedly marketing and yes, we help the government since they have access to all this too.

An anonymous, temporary account that is often shared by others, and which I do not register or log into, and cannot be found anywhere else on the phone except within Aurora, which I can clear by wiping the cache and storage of the app.
It really does fit my needs and wants.
Sure, the few apps may be looking for the other half of Google's libraries, but they're not really there, and are only tricked into believing they are with microG. Furthermore, microG is not automatically calling out to Google in the background in the manner that Google's official apps are, nor continuously pinging back to Google (I've checked my traffic logs).
The apps complete their minimum function and that is all I want or need them to do, while not being made by Google. It is both the practicality and the principle.

No matter what Android ROM you use -- Always replace the stock apps.
Phone? Replace it.
Messenger? Replace it.
Contacts? Replace it.
File Manager? Replace it.
Launcher? Replace it.
Keyboard? Replace it.
Never trust the default apps that come with ROM (any ROM).
If you cannot disable the default app, remove every permission associated with it. But if you can uninstall it using ADB, do so.

GOS also does not recommend microG either, but it works. Aurora is better than installing Google's actual Play Store and needing an account.

True, it may not validate, but I do not do banking on my phone. I just need the bare minimum to get apps to work without using Google's actual software, and do not care if someone says:

Well, if everything is inside that sandbox, communicating and connecting within that sandbox, then that is still a problem.
To put it another way... If you act stupid inside a visual machine, you still get stupid.
Google is the stupid, I'd like to avoid, while still using my apps that, unfortunately, still rely upon their madness. And I am OK with tricking them, making them believe they're using that madness.
So yes, I am having my cake, and I am eating it too, and it seems to be working well for me.
