The heat must be getting to me. I thought about that song by the band Foreigner called "Hot Blooded" and realized that they used Fahrenheit instead of Celsius:
"I'm hot blooded.
Check it and see.
I got a fever of a hundred and three."
I did some math and wondered why they didn't try to rhyme 39.44 Celsius instead. (snort)
According to Internet sources: "The UK Meteorological Office officially switched from Fahrenheit to Celsius (then known as Centigrade) on 15 October 1962. While Celsius became the primary unit for weather forecasting at that time, Fahrenheit was retained as a secondary measure for several years, with the BBC eventually dropping it in the 1970s and 80s."
The song came out in 1978. So, perhaps the British and USAmerican band mates were all agreed that the rhyme scheme was better with 103 than 39.44. I imagine it was a close call and that there were many heated arguments about it with the British band members intent on fully switching to Celsius but the American band members remaining inflexible and reliant on Fahrenheit. So glad I figured that out. 😂

What a moment in time and in history that "soldiers on vacation" will provoke someone minding their own business like this. And she's so strong. I can't imagine being so calm in this situation. And the fact that she is shaking but maintaining her composure while clearly stating her position to these jerks is evidence of how strong she is. Wow. Those women with the soldiers, mocking her like that and proudly filming the interaction...I have so many thoughts about their behavior. Yuck.

When I was a child (single digits) I thought it was called Star Track and that my father, who spoke with an accent, was simply mispronouncing it. He would say, 'Star Trek is on." And I would say, "Star Track" as I ran over to the den to watch. Then, one day I read the title of the show on the television screen and realized there was a word spelled t-r-e-k. We were researching satellite internet and read that it suffers from frequent interruptions due to weather. It is recommended for people who do not have access to wired internet service. We’ve been DSL internet customers for years. We live in a rural are where fibre is not available. Internet speeds are abysmal, but I’m able to work from home despite that because it’s good enough. Except that when the power goes out due to a storm, sometimes the Internet becomes unavailable when the power comes back on (or when we start up the generator). Sometimes it does turn back on as soon as there is a power source. No one seems to know why this happens sometimes. And one house may have internet while another nearby does not. Last Thursday the lights flickered. That’s all it took. The internet went out and has not been back since. The provider says there is an outage affecting several people in the area and keeps promising it will be back on each day by 9PM, but no dice. How is this more reliable than satellite internet? 😅 Does satellite ever go out for days like this?

I *maybe* found something helpful. The Otherness Institute quiz says I'm an #otrovert. Put simply an otrovert means something "other" than the extrovert/introvert polarity. I always considered myself to be an introvert who masked as an extrovert socially to keep people at a distance. But the little article I've linked here is very accurately describing why maybe I'm not truly an introvert, but this other thing. It's not so much that I'm shy but that I want to be alone. I never feel lonely.

I saw @npub1yn0…t3te and @npub14zt…xwst comment about near death and actual death experiences with cottonmouths / water moccasins.
It made me remember jumping into a lake on a sunny day and noticing that something was moving quickly across the water from the other side of the lake. I began to realize it was a snake, and it was coming right at me. So I scrambled out of the water as fast as I could and we all left the lake. The local snake expert said it had to be a cottonmouth / water moccasin because they are that aggressive. I don't consider that a near-death experience, but damn if those snakes aren't super aggressive. Give me a copperhead any day over a water moccasin. Copperheads are quite shy. My spouse stepped on one accidentally and it just slithered away as fast as it could.
Anyway, got any snake stories?

Well written article! I laughed aloud a couple of times (the review of his last album and Samantha Eggers' comment after hearing his music along with her decision not to have tea with him). Just read some articles about sulfur being an ancient solution for repelling ticks. People use it to repel harvest mites (aka chiggers), too. I like the idea of trying something more natural. People ingest it with molasses or honey to keep ticks from biting them, too. LOL Not sure about that one. @npub1xfv…cqs4

When you live surrounded by woods and marauding deer, there is no tick repellent that truly works. The ticks awaken throughout the winter the moment temperatures rise above freezing. By spring they are battle ready and hungry. They jump at life. They suck at life, literally. Chemical sprays don't fool them for long. Natural remedies do little. How can we stop them? Can we make them fear us somehow? Can we make them loathe our company? My personal war on ticks has gone on for many years. Maybe one day I can outsmart this symbolic enemy. Until that day, I remain vigilant and without mercy.

One of the first words that I remember looking up in a dictionary for myself was the word "dais" while I was reading Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time". I would have been about 9 years old or a little younger when I read it. But I distinctly recall the way she used the word several times which made me look it up as I needed to confirm what I thought it meant in context. Seems strange to recall that so distinctly. 🙂

Sometimes when I read an article that mentions off-hand some product I've never heard of, I stop and wonder if the entire reason for the article is to get people to check out that product. If that is the real reason, the article is not content but just an advertisement. It's becoming more difficult to tell the difference. This is why I do my best never to say what brand of anything I use or what brand of item I've just purchased.
