I have fond memories as a teenager staying up late in the night, waiting for my ISO downloads to finish over the course of several hours with my DSL hookup, so I could burn new install DVDs to take with me into my high school computer lab the next morning to run Linux during class.

Grief does not have a single shape or form. It does not have a clear beginning or end.
I compiled messages to share with you from multiple people who loved you and cared about you. I shared it with you in a text message, the message was delivered, but I never knew if it was read or received. Less than two weeks later, you passed.
It is probably irrational. But I am haunted by not knowing if you ever received it. I sent a text. But I could have done more. I should have.

This weekend, I crossed off a new major milestone for me 😊 For the first time, I biked a marathon distance 🚴🏻 When I first started this route, I could barely do five miles.
I think it is probably time for me to upgrade my folding bike to something more serious though 😅

This is basically how I accidentally discovered cycling. I started during the peak pandemic, and then I found out that I actually enjoyed it and it kept me active. It was also quiet time for just me and the road. :) Although I live somewhere that is non-commutable without a car, so my cycling is really only for fitness and pleasure.

I feel like some of the Android hacker forums must have some sort of guide for this kind of thing. I always thought about flashing a different ROM like LineageOS, but I know with devices from Google and Samsung, it is an uphill battle all the time with their flagship devices.

I have a Galaxy S22+ right now. It is my first Samsung. Previously I had a Motorola x4 and a Google Nexus before that. My camera is AMAZING but the fact that Samsung forces me to have a Samsung version of nearly every Google app in my phone really bothers me. I can't uninstall. I get notifications at least monthly that Samsung privacy TOS have changed and that I need to accept them in order to keep using my phone / receive updates. Not sure if I'm buying another yet

There is a lot packed into this one sentence.
Easier for sure, but I believe we open ourselves up for the richness and fullness of life when we discover our feelings and emotions, and allow ourselves to feel them fully. The good, the bad, the joy, the melancholy, and all the other soft squishy feelings. To experience love and sometimes to get hurt.
Truly this is what makes us human. Otherwise we would be hardly different from some AI model.

#FlockToFedora in #RochesterNY wraps up. One thing that won't be captured on video or many photos was our memorial in honor of @npub165f…3lcz who we lost to cancer last week. Mel's impact was profound on me when I was a student. What I remember most about them is their steadfast compassion and empathy, and how they modeled it as a superpower.
We collected written responses from attendees to be memorialized on the Fedora Wiki soon.

What if we locked into a city for two consecutive Flocks? So, in this hypothetical example, a US Flock would be in the same city in 2026 and 2028, and a EU Flock would be in the same city in 2025 and 2027. Then the conference goes somewhere new post-2028. (Also when we will be due for the Fedora Strategy completion.)

The challenge is that resourcing a bid for a new city every year is extraordinarily taxing. Maybe the answer is not to lock into one place forever, but maybe lock in for two, maybe three, repeat visits before circling somewhere new. PyCon US does this in a remarkable way.
It is a different approach to Flock that would dial back the burnout meter on me by a lot.

I think a fixed location might be a better fit for Flock. It still needs to alternate between USA and Europe, but having two known, recurring host cities for Flock would make it easier to build relationships and connections that last beyond the one year of the conference.

It is much more comfortable than sleeping in a coach seat on an airline. That's for sure. And evidently people do it.
But it is nice to have a pillow, linens, and the ability to stretch out more comfortably. The first time I took a sleeper car instead of coach on a familiar route for an overnight trip, I felt so different when I arrived to the final destination.

You either ride Amtrak uncomfortably at a bargain, or you ride Amtrak comfortably at the cost of your kidney. With overnight routes, there is no middle option.
Also, the food is only something to write home about if you are on the two-story trains that they run out west with the dining car. The east coast dining experience is all microwaved, pre-packaged, processed foods.
The roomettes are cozy though.
