Way too much productivity and frankly also motivation lost on this crap today though.

Five security reports within 20 minutes, from the same user, all scored as high as possible (and of course wrongly), broken formatting copy-pasted from an LLM, security policy and thread model completely ignored, and the two comments I so far got on closing two of these also sound like they fell straight out of a slopbot.
In other news, *definitely* going to go with a summer of bliss approach as well (as invented by @npub1cm0…enqe).
And will overhaul the security policy a bit.

Hahahaha! Of course, the story did not end yet! After rerouting the package to a nearby package shop on Tuesday (as I'm now attending a Python conference in Bologna), the tracking once more got stuck for two days. But this evening I got a sign of life.... from the Netherlands!
GLS apparently decided to ship this thing back. Or to at least give it another run through Europe. I don't think I'll see it this or next week...
This is just absolutely ridiculous.

The saga continues! Apparently the invoice was finally found and the package has officially arrived in Germany and is scheduled for delivery tomorrow... right when I'm on my way to PyCon Italia 😬
I've now requested to deliver it to a package shop nearby, and I sincerely hope that will work out so my partner can fetch it from there. Here's hope that I'll finally have that bloody thing in my hands come Saturday evening...

Reply from Steam support... Larger fuckup of GLS, not just my package affected. I should not have to worry about any fees and they also offered me a game to say sorry (asked for Subnautica 2 🤞).
I suggested to offer an additional premium delivery option in the future using DHL or UPS. Don't think they'll go with it, but hey, I tried.
Anyhow, my current guess is that the controller won't arrive before I have to leave for PyCon Italia, but maybe I'm lucky and it still arrives before June 4th 😬

I'm taking bets on whether
a) I'll be asked to to pay import fees now that it has to go through customs
b) it will take any other scenic routes
c) it will still arrive before I have to leave for PyCon Italia on Wed morning, or if I'll have to reroute it to the package shop in which case I won't get a chance to fetch it until June 2nd
d) it will actually take longer than June 4th, at which point it will have been a month since I ordered it with "6-10 days of delivery time"

It has moved! To... UK?! And as of this morning it's in Germany at least but stuck in customs due to a missing invoice. Which is not a surprise given it should never even have left the EU in the first place! Also, the May 15 17:28 NL exit scan miraculously vanished from the tracking and was replaced by a May 21 21:43 UK exit scan.

So my Steam Controller has now been stuck in GLS' transit hell since Friday. Shipment left origin parcel center in the Netherlands on May 15th 17:28, never to get tracked again since. Starting to think it got either lost or stolen. Contacted Steam Support.

I have (in addition to three brother label makers (please do not judge me)) a dyno one that has a wire wrap mode that works amazingly well! Prints on flexible vinyl tape and can also do shrink tubing I think, but as you said, that has issues.

Shiny new toy is shiny 😄
Got myself a new Treedix USB Cable Tester, replacing a little no name tester from AliExpress I bought a few years ago.
Can be powered by a AAA battery or USB-C, and can measure from a USB-A or USB-C connector to a MicroB2.0, MicroB3.0, USB-C, Mini-B or Lightning connector. For chipped USB-C cables you get a ton of data on top of wiring, connectivity into etc!
Great little device 😊
And already allowed me to get rid of the shit cable measured in the picture below ^^

Due to a recent influx of what looked like to be more or less fully AI generated PRs, I've now thrown an AGENTS.md into OctoPrint's repo that hopefully makes clear to agents (and through that, their users) that this is NOT something wanted by the project.
Heavily based on one I ironically discovered in llama.cpp's repo.
I'm open to AI assistance where it makes sense, but I put the foot down on drive-by slop that people don't even understand themselves, and any generated documentation.

There's a first time for everything. Just had to deny a registration request on the official OctoPrint plugin repository as the plugin the author tried to register turned out to be pretty much completely vibe coded. And in the end, even their communication seemed to be the output of an LLM.
Unbelievably bad quality: tons of bugs, dead code, (future) vulnerabilities, ... I honestly haven't yet seen this amount of shittiness from a human developer, no matter how clueless.
I hate this future.

That something like that ever ended up as a feature just tells you a lot about the product manager there.
Only someone who doesn't watch stuff in several languages - because they only speak one - can come up with the idea to force AI voices per default on everyone else.
I haven't yet found a way to opt out of that shit on the consumer side, but using patched and third party apps helps... (and also helps with some other bits of the whole enshittifying experience)

Just received an email from YouTube that they'll soon enable autodubbing on the OctoPrint channel for new and soon also old videos. Hell no, every time I run into this AI shit when watching YouTube I just want to scream, it's THAT bad.
Thankfully, there's a way to opt-out, and I just did that. And if you upload stuff to YouTube, for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE disable that too!

This was inspired by an actual tree standing on the top of the Schauinsland down in the Southern Black Forest. I think it's an old oak and it has this windswept shape that especially during winter with snow around just looks amazing against a blue sky. I tried my best to capture that in 64x64px 😅

Day 6 of #cosytober2025: "Star"
Lot's of TODOs this work week, so I'm kinda glad the Monday had a prompt I could do rather quickly 😅 I briefly thought about a drawing of our sun based on a NASA shot, but decided against that due to time. Maybe I'll do that as a bonus at a later day, if so I'll add it as a reply.

Ok, here we go, my entry for day 1 of #cosytober2025, "Comfy". And I consider a hot mug of my favourite tea and a book a very comfy thing indeed, so I chose that.
64x64px (though rendered out at 400%), EDG77 palette, but only 16 of those colors used.
Not 100% happy, but hey, it's been a year since I last did any #pixelart and it took some time back then as well to get into the flow of things ^^
Like last year I've used my 12" Wacom drawing tablet because I can't draw with a mouse.

Like last year of course I won't commit to actually do it every day as real life will probably prevent that from working, but again the goal will be to finish all, and if possible within October.

October starts tomorrow and as I had a lot of fun last year taking part in #hARToween I figured I should try another month long daily pixel art creation challenge again.
The prompt list of #cosytober2025 looks like it could be fun, and so I think I'll go with that!
Not yet sure about my personal rules, but currently thinking about 64x64 (vs 128x128 last year) & maybe EDG77 or possibly even something smaller as a palette...

Finished my custom buttons and d-pad and put them into my #SteamDeck 😊
Had to sand the d-pad on the center spike as otherwise it didn't work well, but I think now things are fine. Almost ran out on the rub-on letters too, my last X is now on there 😅 I'm thinking about getting a custom decal sheet made.

Had to wait 24h for the results of the next try with the new #SteamDeck d-pad mold, and I think this time it worked 😊 Also, these buttons are going to be mine 😁
Darkish green mica powder painted on the inside, then black epoxy on top. I think these will look amazing in my deck. I still have some neon I also want to try though 😬

This is btw the reason why I decided to redo the mold for the OLED deck. Left: LCD buttons. Right: OLED buttons. The X is switched (it *looks* symmetrical, but I didn't trust that) and the undersides all got some more slight details on the sides as well.

Another attempt at the top part of the d-pad mold is in progress. I realized my issues came from having only two channels on the end of two of the four d-pad sides, and nothing in the middle where it has to be the highest. Obviously not the right approach for filling up fully. So now the idea is to have 5 channels, the middle will be used as the input, and I'll fill it until I see the epoxy resin coming out of all four outputs. We'll see if that works better.

Well, round two of creating new buttons went better! There's still a minor overflow issue (yellow being a bit red) but my partner is happy regardless and so we'll go forward with these.
But I think I'll create another mold with a small channel for overflow issues so that they'll be less of an issue.
Meanwhile, the first attempt on the d-pad is promising but I don't think it'll work this way, the spike in the middle didn't make it. Might be able to fix this on the mold.

Had some minor overflow from the blue button to the others, and somewhat ironically a small void inside the blue one due to forgetting to cut some bits off the new mold. So a second try it will have to be, but overall I'm happy that the new mold works in principle and that I still know how to do that stuff ^^ Also currently have a mold for the d-pad in the works.

I spent the day creating a new two part mold for the #SteamDeck buttons as the OLED model has slightly different ones and now that my partner also has the OLED model I obviously had to recreate the buttons 😉
I hope the first run with resin works out, we'll only know in 24h. I haven't touched that stuff in over two years now so I'm a bit rusty 😬
In any case I'll now also finally create some for myself 😁

Never had it on standing bikes either, and can't remember I ever had it while *running* on a treadmill, but my memory might be hazy here (and I've also not had plenty of chances to use a treadmill so far)

Unexpected: walking half an hour while refactoring some code works well, but once I stop walking I get slightly nauseated. Have been able to repeat that over multiple days now. Probably yet another variant of my motion sickness 😅 I hope it's only temporary while my body & brain are adapting 😬

My home office just got an upgrade I've been thinking about for more than half a decade 😬
I can now not only stand while working (electric standing desk bought back in 2015), no, I can also now WALK while working thanks to a shiny new walking pad 😊

I rarely subtoot, but when I do just to say: if an open source project that your commercial project depends on breaks something in your software stack, causing you trouble, no matter how much, that's your problem and your problem alone.
"The software is provided as is" is a part of OSS licenses for a reason, and unless we have a contract that says otherwise, I'm not part of your bloody "supply chain".

Ngl, I'm seriously starting to consider to move my projects off of GitHub, as the constant push towards AI is taking away more and more control for me as a maintainer.
The latest change is that issue forms can now be bypassed by a handy link to Copilot in the "new issue" selector thingy that I can't remove. Using it you get a chatbot interface that ignores the bug template even if you tell it you want to report a bug. Manually selecting the bug template renders it as text w/o explanations.

For the record, it was infatica that contacted me earlier this year about "collaborating" - in short, abusing #OctoPrint's user base for their commercial botnet. "Just put that into your TOS and that's all! Free money!"
Clarified that this is actually what they suggested, then ghosted and blocked this 🤬 company. WTF.
Since then I've tried to decide what to do about this apart from mentioning it here, but tbh, I have way too much on my plate already 😕

I kinda enjoy collecting stationary...
Just went through another phase of ordering various gel pens and testing if I like something better than my current one, and that actually had me switch from the Uniball Signo 307 (sic) to the Pentel Energel line, as they are slightly smoother (and one of my biggest pet peeves is scratching pens, which is also why I can't stand Frixion or Pilot in general).
