To the contrary: If Bluesky wins, or if Nostr or some new open, decentralized social platform wins, that only benefits the whole.
The open social web is ONE web.
I get prefering one, but being religious over ActivtyPub, vs ATProto vs Nostr protocols is silly and like POP3 email vs SMTP email etc, when in reality it was all ONE email system.
Just so, the whole open social web benefits and is enriched by ANY of the other succeeding.

My point: there isn't just one "fediverse wide proper goal" and there need not be.
For some communities its goal is to be it's own focused cadre of folks on more or less one topic for others its more general and mixed use and not one thing, more or less a ton of general things.
And both are fine.

My take: community servers are not one thing across the fedi, nor need they be. General purpose servers might have relatively indestinct local feeds from each other, like a big food court. Everybody mixes togtether. But specialized servers like @jazztodon.com, @me.dm, @mathstodon.xyz, and @mapstodon.space are unique bistros with their own flavor - and each type works for different folks.

Decentralized platforms like Fediverse and Bluesky will be interesting to watch re: breaking news & disinformation. X/Twitter’s already the worst tonight, its former strength in breaking news now its worse than useless.
