putting my cards on the table, I am a 'podcast' (the term) maximalist
I don't view it as a bad thing if nearly everything published in the future is called a podcast
imo 'podcast' carries some useful expectations that 'video' or 'youtube' or 'tv' does not

yep QUIC was developed at Google (2011? 2012?) and used instead of HTTP for many years when users using Chrome were talking to any Google service on the backend.
worked out so well they brought it to the standards bodies and it became http/3

This article I thought was more thoughtful than most on "Is this making?", though I think it went off the rails with the consumption thesis at the end
I still view Claude Code and friends not as "making" per se, but instead "getting something made"
More akin to outsourcing, or prayer

I guess it's easier for journalists to start with an ai overview, then sprinkle in some voice? as it sounds like they are doing here, freeing them up to get out there in the real world and dig up facts.
I still think human synthesis seems an important part of the process, but maybe not equally in all traditional newspaper content (high school sports recaps etc)

Big spike in "browser" downloads yesterday (2026-02-24 utc) from a variety of networks that mostly send bot traffic.
Chrome/Edge/Firefox. Why do crawlers even send Edge uas? Makes them _more_ sus.
Downloading shows that haven't received a single app download for weeks, which is a dead giveaway
Added a new stronger bot-id on these networks this morning in OP3 here in case any other podcast hosts want to cross-reference, the fact that it is so distributed is annoying:

Definitely appreciate the mentions in Podnews, it would be nice to figure out how to find one or two named OP3 sponsors - haven't had any new ones for quite a while, but I also am not spending time reaching out.
Right now sponsorship is more or less equivalent to the costs, valuing my time at zero. Which is fine, it's not meant to be a money making venture, but not necessarily robust to any future wild growth (which would also be nice).
