I have my robot spin up a server running a 5090 to make transcripts from 2 hour podcasts to determine if there's anything clip worthy. Then cut clips using srt word for word time codes.

it's great for smaller tasks, but the context window is small
I use it for summaries of articles, automatic promo writing for GodcasterU stations and there's enough room for Fish 1.5 to run on it as well for voicing the promos. For coding, not so much.

I'm using my pi9 with a 3090 and Fish speech to generate promos for 8 stations.
Saves me $150 in elevlabs token burn
And I have room left over for qwen 3.5 for some simple news summaries that drop into my daily Obsidian folder.

As a sloperator, got 5.3 and Claude 4.6 have felt pretty equal. The difference in token cost however has been a factor 20x higher on Claude. Costs are calculated on using opencode's payment system.

Managing your own server can be fun, but when you have other users the night are begins. Updates, security issues etc.
Our server is by invite only. Critical difference in management resources. I don't have to worry much about abuse or complaints.

I've learned how to start a new session when the context window gets full and confused
I use my products and refine them over time, same process. I have multiple scripts that do things, sometimes interacting with each other. 40 years of starting and stopping services, grepping logs and writing very simple bash's scripts filled me with enough knowledge to use LLMs to of fill in all the blanks. It feels very much like the maker era to me, just on a different playing field.

I was a maker in my early teens, connecting wires on my radio shack 100 in 1 projects kit. That's when I built my first transmitter. .2 watts FM.
I am feeling the same joy I did back then, even if nobody will use them but me.
I don't use an IDE. I describe what I want and copy paste entire python scripts, requiring a full re-write for each change so I don't mess up the code hacking around or inserting code changes.

Exactly, and our proposal is that you can connect strike to your app to send payment ts to podcasters who use any lightning wallet that understands lnaddress including Albyhub
Its all the same protocols.
People can choose whatever wallet they like to send and receive.
One less step for new users, but not sovereign. That's where the education part comes in.

The community that has grown here is astounding to me, we are from many different cultures, countries and backgrounds, yet we all are working generally to maintain the same mission of a free and open communications ecosystem for all people. The addition of V4V with the lightning network is not a promise of employment or riches, it is a mechanism to share value to those who have provided value. A common metric not provided anywhere else.

In the middle of all this beauty, Spotify came in like a 400 pound gorilla and tried to buy their way into the eco system and capture the market. They spent $1 Billion and failed, not just financially, they made many podcasts irrelevant, and wasted resources on programming no one wanted BECAUSE of the open content freely available.

For historical context, the namespace was created for the sole reason of adding the value block, delightfully many people had ideas for expanding the podcasting rss system and we have some solid additions that are now slowly spreading out to other platforms and apps. To expect this to be a fast process is underestimating the resources available for this at all levels.

I am grateful that Apple provides a solid app and backend for their users at no cost, as they keep the original mission available at scale.
That said, I never promote them in my show, I always talk about independent apps, their benefits and why it is important to support their development. After all, it was Apple's decision to de-platform several podcasts in 2018 that started this project in the first place.

If people think that can just set up a wallet and start earning, they have not understood the model.
I am delighted that the lightning network facilitates sharing of value, regardless of how much or little it is. No Agenda has multiple splits that go to producers who provide value back daily. Whatever is left goes to the Index. I love seeing apps getting a share, which is unique in ANY monetization model.

We added lighting payments as a mechanism to also subvert deplatforming of people from payment rails. Although that has been difficult, we are still hanging in there and evolving as we can. It was not developed as a way to 'make money'.
In my opinion and experience, the only people who can motivate people to support the Value4Value model is the content makers themselves. No app or service has that relationship.
