TIL: Ever wanted to compress data or use cryptographic algorithms but you don't want to link to C libraries or you're just plain lazy?
The Linux kernel has you covered! Create a socket of type AF_ALG, bind to your favorite algorithm, send() in your data and recv() it back!
This seems to support deflate, SHA, RSA and some more on ppc64le and additionally even zstd, chacha, lzo, hmac and more on ARM!

@npub1w2v…20de and me had some time today to continue our work on U-Boot + Mainline for the RK3588S2 Radxa CM5 IO - it now boots to system with EFI and the only proprietary component on the way there being the DRAM init. Way to go!

postmarketOS booted from a USB stick on the Mi 9T - how can you tell? Because the internal UFS storage is only 128GB large. Don't do this at home though, it's USB 2 and booting takes AGES

overall I think your criticism is rather unfounded and I think the more constructive version of the comment about the GTK situation would be expressing hope for e.g. the pinephone pro perhaps seeing bugfixes for GLES 3.1 due to ecosystem adoption of the standard? I still don't really get your original intent...

"Device X has driver issues but the hardware is capable" (be it bugs or just no driver at all yet in the case of your Asahi example) IMO is not valid criticism of GTK's choice of target APIs. Most importantly, the devices have the capability to run the newer APIs, so it reinforces the case for choosing them; second of all some specific devices having bugs is an exception to the rule and those shouldn't be reason hold back the ecosystem from adopting decade-old standards

your take regarding OpenGL ES 2.0 is weird, that's a standard from 2007, now 18 years old. It's definitely not anything from "relatively new hardware". Qualcomm Adreno and ARM Mali GPUs have supported OpenGL ES 3.0 since 2013, if anything "relatively new" doesn't support it, the hardware simply isn't "relatively new", it's just dead on arrival

- This should probably become a more regular thing, I'm considering turning one open evening at CCCAC every month into a "Mainlining Evening" for people interested in hacking together
- We need more beginner friendly, accessible documentation for Mainlining, my presentations are hopefully an OK entrypoint, but I can do better

- Udev rules and pmbootstrap didn't play well for one person and we couldn't figure it out in time, that sucked
- MSM8996 needs a lot of work but I didn't have the time to look after them too much :(
- It is damn hard to explain this to people with almost no technical knowledge in this area, but we tried our best and they learnt a lot
- Not everyone had success, but everyone went away with new knowledge and hopefully excitement to keep going

- 1 Xiaomi phone can now boot mainline but fails early for yet unknown reasons
- 1 Samsung phone now has a uniloader port and can boot mainline but crashes early (on first try!)

I finally managed to get panel working on the Xiaomi 12. I would like to curse at Qualcomm for the mistake I had in my panel driver for the last year, because it was not obvious at all. Anyways, time to get SM8450 working in all its glory from here! So much is already done :D

I made #PostmarketOS boot on PowerPC! And discovered a bunch of bugs in pmb v3 and a circular dependency on the way here. If it weren't so late I'd build some GUI as well, but that's for another day.

That's a way different chipset, plus I don't own one :( It's Mediatek though and the manufacturer sadly ceased operations, so I think your hopes of getting anything usable in the near future are probably slim unless someone finds a used one and decides to work on it (you never know!)

they were! The best part about these is that they have secure boot disabled so we can use lk1st (I wanted UART for debugging lk1st)! And potentially other stuff, at some point I wanna try looking into patching some firmware to "enable" EL2 for us, sadly MSM8953 makes this much less trivial than MSM8916, but I have some hopes
