That would explain some things here. But we really need to move away from this needing to be comfortable narrative.
Because who really is comfortable in their own body? What does that even look or feel like? What if this focus is what leads to people thinking about it more and thus being more self-conscious about it?
It is bad enough that we have expectations of what being a woman or man is that isn't based in reality or biology as it is. That these are used as some gotcha for why you aren't your biological sex.

I don't even know what is going on with it. But I tend to think the culture is downstream of America at least. I have seen the borrowing of lecture/classroom material from America in the education system, there are a lot of American films imported, the big awards tend to be American-based, things like that.

We are, just about. But we have also forgotten a lot now. We have largely been forced out of the cities and even many towns. Next is to turn the villages to towns and force us out of those with the new growing population to feed the upwards line. The economy is our god that we must give fresh sacrifices to.

I'm not sure when it was decided that British values are "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs." but I think this was more of a modern invention. Perhaps even a response to the changing demographics of the UK, to assert civic nationalism in a way. That anyone can be British if they have these values.

I'm reminded of someone who didn't see the issue of teaching eighth graders so that is 13 year olds about anal sex... which is apparently being anti-gay if you are against this. But do you really want 13 year olds trying to copy that when it could really hurt them? Bad enough when they are choking each other because it is a porn trend.

I would agree there. Also, if you can get your sexual desires met by promiscuity then there is less incentive to form enduring bonds. The sexual desires are supposed to drive you closer to the person you love, to form a lasting bond with them so that you will settle down together. Potentially raise a family if straight.

Yeah. Older people are more likely to have the courage to pursue as well I think. Born through a different time where it was more sociable in person. I wonder how the young generations of now will cope with this?
I suspect they will have matured with age too and decided that they wanted to settle down with someone to love than seek the pure physical.

The film I watched was really disturbing too. Because of the whole taking drugs and what happens then. Hard to get that out of my head now. I suspect these aren't stories that translate well. He had a disturbed mind, one on drugs I suspect.

Is there a good film on Naked Lunch?
This codependent relationship is really fucked up. Older man with a young man, the young man is just with him for convenience. Not that he is gay. There is sex in it and it is pretty tense. The music really gives this vibe, it cuts out at points so you get this sense of time passing. But also that this is not a good relationship. The sex is tolerated rather than wanted.
I can understand loving cats if you are lonely. Want some companionship. Writing is a solitary thing so it doesn't lend itself well to having relationships. You need lots of hours away to stare at pages.

I'm probably not the best one to ask because I don't know the book itself. It was a mind fuck though, I didn't quite realise what I was getting into when watching it. I think they changed the ending too? Had to make something up for it when I read up on it afterwards. It's not terrible unless you count the contents of the book anyway. It has pretty pictures. I don't think it shies away from the fucked up relationship it is based on. There are some tense moments.

Could put the funding that goes to state schools per student into private ones. I don't know why parents are expected to foot the whole bill for private schools. Like there is no support to get students into private schools outside some limited scholarships. Children need an education to a certain point. Rather than sending the poor ones to the state schools, they could be sent to different private ones with that funding.

Yeah. Hiring learned professors to teach privately is the way forwards I think. That way they can teach without being restricted by the current state model which doesn't give us a love for learning. I saw a small private school which taught the classical education model, the children there knew much more than I did. It was great to see.

We need to go back to the classical education model. That builds up confidence in public speaking and debates and learning. How to handle disagreements without losing ones temper or having to cancel/shut down others.

Thanks. I am glad that I managed to survive through it too. That it didn't cost me my desire to learn. I wanted to learn. But school just didn't teach me much. The internet taught me more. I'm sure that I can use my time better there too.

That does seem to be the case.
Rather than being able to figure out what I wanted to do in life, my youth ended up being crippling depression. I think that being at school and on the internet contributed to this most. But it is hard to pinpoint how and why.

Yeah. It is a shame that I was never given the foundations of education and knowledge in order to help me realise what I wanted to do at a young age. Yes. It amazes me that some of the smartest minds of the past had self-study or studied under a tutor at their place. I think that this happened with C.S. Lewis at some point. He had a mixture growing up.

Do you mean how to draw a prayer mat or something? They didn't teach religion properly here. Wouldn't want the plebs to know the written word of any faith. Need religious leaders to interpret it for us. Use the threat of isolation or damnation to get people to do what you want.
