The reason we have such terrible infrastructure is because the feds give away free money to expand highways, but then states are on the hook for maintenance. It creates this endless loop where we create ever-expanding liabilities for states to deal with instead of doing something sane like.. Denser communities, or trains.

I follow a few subreddits in order to keep up to things, but without the crappy algo stuff built into the app or the site.
I also follow a Linux gaming news site, and a few webcomics like xkcd and The Oatmeal.
If you're into gaming at all, each game on steam has its own rss feed for announcements.
If there are any github projects you care about, those also have feeds.

Buggy doesn't even describe it well enough! Every single Ubuntu install I've made over the last 10 years has one of those "Something unexpected happened!" crash dialogs pop up after about 5 minutes of being idle on the desktop. Even on completely fresh installs, on a variety of different kinds of hardware and VMs. I truly do not understand how that's acceptable.

That's so funny because I have used Ubuntu for the better part of the last decade and it always manages to kill itself during an update, or just for no reason whatsoever. . I've been much happier with NixOS on my desktop.
I could maybe agree with you for a server though, my Ubuntu server from 2018 was pretty stable up until I replaced it last moment.

From my understanding, it doesn't require any identification. Basically the OS can ask "are you 18?", you lie, then companies that run sites like pornhub and discord can use that API and cover their ass. Seems better than requiring age verification everywhere, even if I'd prefer we don't need it anywhere.
Of the shit options, it kinda seems like the least-shit one

Cloud gaming is cool, but for a lot of genres, there's always going to be a latency problem unless you have a datacenter in your back yard. Honestly, these days you can get away with some pretty basic parts if you stick to indie games and old games. :)

Even if you don't have a good set of layout tools, a lot of 32:9 ultrawides are capable of being run as two separate 16:9 displays. Works great for Windows, but since I use Linux and have plenty of great tools to manage my windows, I just use the single 32:9

Enshittification has been happening since the early 2010s. It's just finally bad enough that even average people are starting to take notice.
Earliest instance I can think of is when Facebook switched to an algo feed and went for endless scrolling rather than friend's feeds and pages. Anything that prioritizes keeping the user on the page longer, rather than quickly delivering information to them.
I believe this is about the point silicon valley went from making computer software to making "services" that are designed to extract value from their users.

Indeed. 4MB/block max, and usually much less. Mempool size is already growing much more slowly than the capacity of storage devices. Not to mention, you can do just about everything you could possibly need to with a pruned node running on a 20GB drive.

Thanks for the Kvaesitso recommendation! Finally, a launcher that pulls the keyboard up immediately, rather than forcing you to shift your hand up to touch the search bar, then shifting back down so you can type. Android phones are friggin massive, and each time I have to adjust my grip, it's another chance to drop the phone.
Apple has had this search flow figured out since the 4th or 5th iPhone, so it's a little wild to me that this isn't the default behavior on AOSP. Is Google Android and Samsung Android also this backwards?
