This is a perfect example of what happens when your leaders are concerned with putting a Bible in every classroom and stripping school library shelves of books about penguins with two daddies -- instead of being concerned with actually *EDUCATING*.
Last I checked, Oklahoma is still dead last in quality of education nation-wide. And our leaders, despite their words to the contrary, like it that way.

Up to a point, a person's ignorance is not their fault. We all (with some glaring exceptions) know that there are things we don't know. When it comes to things we do know, sometimes we don't realize there's a gap in our knowledge. We can't know what we don't know.
But in this, the Year of Our AOC 2026, when the global conversation concerns a specific topic and plenty of information lies literally at our fingertips, there's not much excuse for *not* having done the assignment.

I just finished talking to a man I don't know.
He's a Goodwill volunteer.
He thinks the Iran war is justified because "if they get nuclear weapons, they're just crazy enough to fire one."
I said, "Well, our nation is the only one that's been crazy enough to do that so far."
He looked at me blankly.
Further conversation revealed that this man, who is in his late 40s or early 50s, did not know about Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
I was too floored to do more than suggest researching the history.

This sucks.
I don't want to belong to the Dems or the GOP. I've stuck with Independent because it's allowed me to vote as I want to vote. But now they've taken that option away. And I have to take on the name of either milquetoast AIPAC-funded oligarch traitors or of sociopathic Russia/Israel-funded oligarch traitors.

I am well aware of all of that. I am just asking the rest of the world to acknowledge that a great many of us *did* vote for the other candidates and we *have been* fighting Trump's regime every way we can think of. We're marching in protests, we're hounding our representatives, we're having the difficult conversations with family members & friends, we're teaching our children to stand firm against fascism no matter what, we're still voting even though it feels pointless....

I think I want to move my blog from Wordpress to Ghost.
From what little I've researched thus far, Ghost seems to have good tools for accomplishing this.
But I am utterly unversed in the ways of The Programmer and ignorant of 99.99% of technical jargon.
I also have ADHD and ***loathe*** new user interface. (One of the reasons I want to leave Wordpress is that the UI has become revolting over the past few years.)
SO.
Will this be easy enough for layfolk such as I to accomplish?

It has taken me 7 months, but I finally finished reading SIMONE WEIL: A LIFE by Simone Pétrement (1973, transl. 1976).
Even though I alraady knew the tragic ending of Weil's too-brief life...
...still, I feel very much like I just witnessed the death of a dear friend, admired mentor, and prophet who accurately described what we're living in now.

By Grabthar's Hammer, I am so unutterably sick of the color white EVERYWHERE during the past 10 years or so. I blame Apple. It's an aesthetic that goes along with the gray & beige trend for interior walls & floors. It's sterile and boring and reflects a society-wide obsession with the illusion of alleged "purity" and I hate it.
Also, I never heard of Pantone before this article. Considering that I'm an artist, I think that says something about Pantone's overall significance.

This morning, having finished the last available #audiobook (nr.7) of #DungeonCrawlerCarl, and against my better judgment, I decided to give STAR TREK: KHAN a chance. I resolved to listen to the first episode all the way through no matter how bad it was.
I listened through to the end of episode 4 before time constraints made me quit.

Welp. They got me again.
Last night, I heard for the first time about the audio drama series #StarTrekKhan, which tells the story of Khan's colony after the Enterprise leaves them all on Ceti Alpha V.
I was skeptical. The treatment of Khan in #StarTrekIntoDarkness left me leery of any use of the character beyond Ricardo Montalbán's portrayals. (I adore Benedict Cumberbatch, but that was an awful miscast, and the "John Harrison" plotline was bullshit.)

Talked with a friend who tried to watch #JurassicRebirth and gave up, finding it to be a stale, forgettable rehashing of its too-many predecessors.
The goal of #movies these days isn't to tell a new, resonating tale. The goal is only to regurgitate the same story again and again for as long as it can make the cash flow. The state of our entertainment will continue this way for as long the public will come back and eat what's regurgitated. 🤮

Anyway, I've turned into more of a crafter than a miner. And definitely not a fighter. I have t even tried to venture into the Trial Chamber I know is nearby, much less attempted the End. I spend time in the Nether only in places where I've secured the area. I'm a wimp, but I've got super cute #cottagecore builds and a nifty giant witchy house. Right now I'm working on nicer homes for my villagers.

I've only been playing #Minecraft for just over 2 years. Does that mean I'm still a noob? I dunno. But I have a world, "Tawand A's Realm," that I think of as my #ForeverWorld -- my first one, anyway. I'll stick with it as long as I can, at least until it crashes and I lose all but the first ~6mos of play. ~Six mos in is when the system started telling me it can't save to the cloud anymore. So if it crashes locally, it's gone.

Had a convo with @npub1fwv…e7d6 today that altered my opinion of the USA.
And by altered, I mean worsened.
So.
If, like me, you grew up immersed in conservative, evangelical, historically-Protestant Christianity,
you're familiar with the "Old Testament" scriptures (in Leviticus, Jeremiah, 1 & 2 Kings [more?]) referencing "Moloch."
In context, the ancient Israelites are being warned to stop sacrificing children either to a god named Moloch or in a ritual called Moloch.

But your bills & debts are paid while you serve.
You & family move into the White House but you don't get to change it to suit your tastes.
You draw a salary of no more than $100k/year.
You can put all of it into savings if you want.
Your cabinet is people whom the public has elected via ranked choice voting.

I am so sorry for the loss of your family photos. That just breaks my heart.
Both of my grandmothers were genealogy hobbyists. So is my mother. They passed that love of family history on to me. Old family photos are very much a part of tracing our history. I always loved sitting with my grandmas, looking through the old albums with them. They each made separate albums for each of their children, albums that went to my parents, aunts, and uncles when their parents died.
Priceless.

I grew up in Germany with US-American citizenship. I was on US military bases on a nearly daily basis. We were always told that when you set foot on a US military base, you are stepping onto US-American soil. Born on a US military base to at least one US-American parent? You're a US citizen.
This is always how it has worked, and the US government has fucked this man over.

Today is #Juneteenth, the US-American federal holiday commemorating and celebrating June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned that the Emancipation Proclamation had freed them 2 1/2 years earlier.
Former slaves celebrated this day as early as 1866. From September 2016 to January 2017, activist #OpalLee, then age 89, walked from Ft. Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C, as part of her ultimately successful campaign to get Juneteenth recognized as a federal holiday.
